From elementary school, he began learning the piano and acquired a level of music theory equivalent to that of a junior college. He could immediately play songs and drama scores heard on television by ear. Upon entering Kagoshima Chuo High School, he joined the brass band club and won the Kagoshima Prefectural Championship.
In 1977, he moved to Tokyo and enrolled at Yokohama City University. While participating in the music circle "Second Wind Jazz Orchestra," he also worked part-time playing in a band at a beer garden. It was during this time that he met professional musicians. From his second year of university, he began performing in a disco band with them.
From 1984 to 1992, he was active as a keyboard player in the band "Revolver." Additionally, he worked as a recording musician and arranger.
As a composer, he first worked on the music for television dramas with the Fuji Television series "Oishii Kankei" in 1996.
