Born in Pattani Province, he was the youngest son of Khun Wiset Suvarnabhumi and Mrs. Sa-at Rattanakul. Mr Phanom began writing his first novel when he was in high school Suankularb Wittayalai School. The title of his first book was “Hao Dong”, in the year of 1941.
Besides writing novels, Chatchai is also a columnist writing articles on firearms. in some newspapers and magazines as well. For his column articles, he uses a new pen name "Kong Surakan".
