2/2 and also, working well with the colors, lighting and camera requires creativity and artistic knowledge/sense rather than budget. Doing a comparison here to make a point, (not to flame petty fanwars lol) there's Warm on a cold night and Song of the moon that I watched this year (I didn't like neither tbh lol I picked these two here specifically to prove that I'm just talking about production and not plot, acting etc) which were pretty low budget and unpopular but the color pallets and cameraworks combined with frame composition and music placement, and editing made the whole thing look much better overall than tteotm

1/2 Talking completely about production here, plot aside (cause I genuinely enjoyed at least 1/3 tteotm), it's kinda funny to me that people see one pretty thing on screen and come to conclusions that the production is good 😭Like yup tteotm's cgi and costumes were ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, 0 doubt in that, but take all of these out from it and you're left with sloppy cameraworks, bad editing, bad music placement, a BLINDING brightness level and crazy beauty filters that make ppl look like ghosts sometimes...This is something we cdrama watchers would not complain about normally cause we're talking about a youku drama after all but it was very disappointing coming from a show that they promoted and hyped the hell out of as super expensive for almost 2 years...personally I find the lighting and color grading in this one much more natural than tteotm's even with some of the cgi looking a bit whacky lol (I'm an art student so I care about these stuff a lot so maybe I'm being picky but it's my take on that)

I think it's because the actors are not THAT popular and the show didn't do crazy promotion before airing...otherwise this drama literally has everything people always complain about wanting in it lol

looks like you ffed too much and almost didn't understand anything in the story cause all of these actually made sense following eachother

the common keypoint of jlfx villains is definitely that they're all extremely obsessed with their lovers to the point of doing insane things over the obsession and becoming total lunatics lmao ... suying is cray cray but she's a pretty good villain tbh

I freaking love the way they're so comfortable with e/o like the friendship is so sooo precious to me 😭 they're touchy as hell cause they're genuinely buddies but you can interpret those touchy moments as romantic and heart fluttering in peace without getting 45 shots of them with slow motion from 16 angles...the angsty sad parts in xianxias work THEE best with this kind of straight romance cause you're basically witnessing a house you've watched be built patiently and slowly brick by brick and little by little fall apart and the sadness hits the most like that 😭 [someone has watched the trailers 10 times today and can't wait for the tragedy to come]

btw can't guarantee anything for 100% since we're just 7 episodes in but if you enjoyed clj much more than other xianxias for certain reasons I think you're gonna like this a lot!! It's definitely not as visually fancy as that show but it has the story/plot characteristics that made clj very enjoyable to watch (it's a more light hearted clj to me so far)

omg I'm just too excited sorry for the overreaction but also let me add a ton of other things too:
1.The chemistry between the main leads is just so natural and adorable ^_^ the nice writing is helping it too but they're close in age and both very pretty with equally decent acting ability and it just makes the cp excellent 😭 (some older idol actors should be ashamed tbh)
2. Yan Hui very easily slipped into my all time favourite cdrama fls of all time list...restraining myself from writing an essay and spoiling so I'm just gonna cut it short and say she's very similar to woh's gu xiang and this kind of char in general works REALLY well for zhou ye!
3. I barely compliment male characters but I'M GONNA DO IT NOW CAUSE TINGYAO IS SO FUCKING LOVELY??? no toxic masculinity no noble idiocy just an emotionally damaged babygirl with a heart of gold 😭 also hmh's face is so perfect for playing a dragon lol
4. I don't think this was a particularly high budget drama and the overall production is pretty okay but some of the epic scenes had GORGEOUS shots with GORGEOUS color grading !!! can't wait to see more of this stuff coming !!
5. THE OPENING SONG AND THE ART!!!!! I'm addicted you guys

no cause same picked this up bc of zhou ye and I'm so happy about the way her char turned out here 😭 yan hui is very gu xiang coded which I live for and it's just very rare to see female characters get justice in cdramaland so I'm just shredding tears of joy rn

Also let's talk about the acting of the mains...THEY'RE SOOO YOUNG AND SO FREAKING GOOD??? Their unexpected cute chemistry 😭 the adorable slow-burn friendship to love pipeline 😭
