since some people keep mentioning it I have to give you all some context: When xianyu's douban rating came out it has started airing for something like less than a week (not even half of the show was out at that point) and everybody, even the drama bloggers on weibo who are not fans of any actor and just talk abt shows from a genuine perspective, were saying the rating was totally unreasonable. There were only 9k ratings and the 1 stars affected the initial score a lot. In comparison, moonlit reunion started airing 2 days after xianyu but the douban score opened just today!!! And no surprise it's higher by 1 point since there are 30k ratings and the ones who rated it are people who actually watched the show, so the ones who actually watched and rated it are gonna outnumber the ones who just rated it 1 star after watching 1 episode... Also, I love txw to d3ath and hate bringing this up here, but almost everybody on chinese socials has been saying despite MR having better prod and better use of budget, the storytelling and acting in xianyu is more polished and the show overall more entertaining 😠so how come xianyu has a lower rating??? Just make it make sense okay...I'm gonna assure you it'd be at least 6.5 if they weren't being shady a$sholes and opened the ratings NOW

Okay but it's just questionable because they've been hyping up the novel adaptation of that book for a long time and I was genuinely excited to see actually good representation of en ethnic minority in a cdrama since most costume dramas depict tribal and non Han people as uncivilised barbars. And about the latter part of your comment, context matters my friend!!! There's a difference between actors from ethnic minorities playing Han characters versus Han people being possibly cast as already underrepresented ethnic minority that's also frequently discriminated against, specially when the STORY has heavy cultural nuances.
