I agree with this overall but the thing is that this drama still follows the novel pretty closely and the changes are very small 😭

whenever I see ppl complain so much abt very small changes and quick-passing bad tropes (like insignificant love rivals or short misunderstanding arcs) I genuinely lose it bc these people were NAWT there back when xianxias had 68 episodes... they litterally had you watch the chars try to k!ll e/o for 10 episode bc a villain who popped up out of nowhere told the girl the guy murdered her parents or sth and the idiot actually believed it 😭

It's the fact that I'm pretty sure if the scriptwriters are the same people, and if things stayed the same for 18 episodes, then the added conflicts will be solved quickly in the 2nd half as well and all this crazy tantrum abt them "ruining" the novel has been over mf NOTHING. Anyways Idk I think I'm not coming back here for now to preserve my sanity.

Sigh...fyi people on chinese socials were saying all kinds of terrible snd nasty things about wyl's looks since the day wdbtd started airing. The aura in her predebut pics and the girlfriend gossip becoming a hot search actually ended up overshadowing those horrible hate posts bc she gained positive attention from queer women. Also wyl's career is intact and nobody's cancelling her so idk what the big deal is to mention it here when Chinese ppl themselves are ok with it🙄

To me he doesn't even feel naive tbh. He's just a boring character that stands there and does nothing but minor stuff to move the plot forward...and the actor isn't doing a good job at convincing me that he's cute.

I feel like they just didn't have the time and budget to cgi a huge snake in all episodes...it's so dissapointing bc xianxia cdramas always turn likable pets into annoying humans and now I'm pretty sure it's a budget thing.

binged the last 5 episodes and it might be an unpopular opinion but I actually dislike the human version of the snake way more than Ruling 😭 Eventhough her char isn't well flashed out and feels disconnected with the rest of the show, her bg story and the moral dilemmas she faces are kind of interesting. Nianjiu on the other hand doesn't have any personality and the actor's super awkward facial expressions just make it difficult for me to watch him and his scenes with yrl...

New things I'm obsessed with:
-Tingyan being sooo outspoken with her affection....like her talking about how good he smells and how pretty and delicate his facial features look all the time does THINGS to me.
-The author not being afraid of making Sima Jiao cry. Just adds 1000 aura points to his character like please let men actually CRY instead of just growling and spitting blood all the time!!!!
- someone on weibo said snother thing that makes xianyu stand out is the fact that it's not begging for pitty from the audience. So many shows these days just scream "see how miserable he/she is" in your face all the time instead of actually trying to make the characters likable and interesting.
