same I'm not watching a single crappy costume drama that creates crappy lazy conflicts with bad misunderstandings and miscommunication and sells them as "angst" just to stretch the show to 40 episodes 😭 Either give me an actual plot or good romance

idk maybe I'm mistaking it for the LOTTL. But I'm pretty sure they were really dissatisfied with this being her next project. I won't torture myself with having expectations from it tbh but I hope they let Reba dub herself at least bc her line delivery in the trailer was EATING

I fear you need to lower those expectations for lbtg...the scriptwriter's previous works have all been horrible and even Reba's cfans were boycotting it 😭

Even cntez who are always really harsh on idol dramas specially xianxias are saying the douban score is unfair. They opened it way too early (you can see there are only 10k ratings) and tbh the worst it deserved should've been 6. It's pretty much evident that most cnetz are really enjoying it and saying it stands out from many other xianxias so I hope the rating rises later

One of the most hilarious and wholesome tropes in fiction is when there are characters in the story who are totally unhinged red flags but their romantic relationships with their love interests are healthy af 😭 There has been a billion righteous boring saintly immortality cultivator male chars in xianxias I've watched who have constantly tortured the fls with their noble idiocy and lack of communication skills. Yet a vengeful and bitter man like Sima jiao with 101 unresolved mental illnesses ate all of them up in terms of treating the woman he loves with actual care and respect instead of acting like a narcissistic idiot who knows what'd be the best for her while his actions hurt her all the time.

For the 1st time in my life I think I'm not gonna hate an amnesia arc bc I love this cp so bad I litterally need them to meet and experience love for the first time again

Cant't even tell how long it's been since the last time a fl in a drama (both the actress and the character) was so universally loved and appreciated the way Tingyan and wang yinglu are. People are always so harsh and mean to actresses and female characters so this feels like the world healing and my mental illnesses vanishing one by one THANK YOU WANG YINGLU 😭

Yeah I have my grudges against iqiyi and tencent but at least the prod and promotion would be better

I'm not watching MR right now and that wasn't the drama I was talking about. There's also Under the skin and some other more serious suspense and youth dramas I've watched from linmon that had really good prod (besides from the ones you named)...I just wanted cameraworks and editing that'd be more cinematic bc the script here is really great and it deserved better directing to intensifiy the emotional impact 😭

okay I love xianyu obviously bc of the script and actors but here's my 2 cents about directing: The number of works or the popularity of them don't really determine a director's skill and talent. It's also pretty much telling that yin zheng's good directing DID help clj's critical acclaim when you see how the next stellar media dramas didn't do as well despite the popular casts and budget.
I also really love dir. yangyang (a dresn of splendour, ever night etc) and Zeng Qingjie (blossom). YY doesn't have many shows under her name and zqj litterally debuted last year but they know how to use the camera and how to combine it with different things like music, editing, lighting, frame work etc to emphasise the emotional impact of plot points. (I just named YZ bc his directing left the best impression on me among the xianxias I've watched)

yeah I believe the db score will also rise to at least 6 bc even cntez were saying it was unfair that they opened too early and it deserved a better score bc it stands out from other xianxias (also hope it breaks the 10k heat index I can't watch my babies flop 😭)

also the promotion is just terrible 😭 was reading some post on weibo yesterday talking abt how the hashtags they use and the scenes/promo material they decide to hype up for hot searches don't highlight parts of the drama that make it sp at all

yeah ik and I'm happy about it but better cameraworks and better editing, music, no blurring face filters etc would make this an epic experience to watch...the writing specially with the romance and the chemistry is just soooo insanely good but it would be an all-time classic if the director knew how to shot and produce epic and emotional scenes to make them more impactful

In an alternative universe Xianyu would have been directed by yi zheng (director of lbfad) and under the production of linmon pictures so that this great script + incredible cp could get the production and promotion it deserved and it'd become a loved and critically well received hit both domestically and internationally 😭
