I really loved zhuyu and understand why it's rated high but agree with you on BTBA. And in fact seeing the ratings for Yang zi's dramas on mdl makes it pretty much evident that the cdrama community is going downhills bc her dramas after she left her previous agency have gotten more serious and therefore receive way better reviews from critics in china, while on mdl it's the opposite lol

I keep watching shit shows bc they have a high rating in here then good shows that are a bit more serious and not exactly made to cater to douyin editors and tiktok addicts with low attention span keep getting low ratings. The cdrama community on mdl has quite litterally become a circus atp and I'm really losing the tiny bit of interest I had in being here more and more with every passing day.

I've watched AMBF from the same scriptwriter and really loved it (sooo sad the rating dropped so low in here tbh), this one has the same feeling.They're obviously very different but the maturity and realism in the development of the relationship between the leads and the fact that they find shelter in e/o's pain is genuinely so beautiful and it kind of pushes it a bit from idol drama side to a bit more serious. And both dramas have flawed main characters which is sth I really like bc I'm tired of overpowered and unrealistically smart chars in costume dramas. YL and MXY are both clever and cool but in a very human way that doesn't feel like they've got one of those protagonist halos that makes them look insanely superior to every other character in the show lol

They aren't protesting now, they did when the production was announced and it was bc the source material had very questionable stuff in it (misogynistic and racist). They didn't adapt those in the drama but they're still upset bc the og author is gonna make money from this.
And the false SA allegation part isn't a very good look for this show since the justice system in sk already doesn't punish sex offenders properly and women get falsely accused of lying all the time. Korean feminists have been fighting against this specially in the last couple of years so this comes off as really culturally insensitive for this time.
