Don’t you guys think the hug scene in episode 40 is parallel to the hug scene in episode 36 (where SS cried so hard)?
It’s just the roles are reversed this time.

I was genuinely hoping he would be honest with her when she asked.
At least give her a choice to decide whether she still wants to be with him after knowing the truth and risks.
From CSS’s reaction during the hug, I somehow think she can feel something is not right.

In my opinion, if he still chooses to go with the revenge, he should really let CSS know. She has every right to know and decide whether she still wants to be with him after knowing the truth. At least she gets to make the choice. It’s her life after all.
In today’s episode, she did ask him whether he still has grudge but he said no. I was genuinely hoping he would be honest with her when she asked. From CSS’s reaction during the hug, I somehow feel that CSS can feel something is not right.

Even before he got engaged with SS, he had had this big revenge plan in mind. Based on how he handles things, we can expect his revenge execution won’t be a lawful one. Based on the novel, he will proceed with his plan no matter what. We have been seeing him scheme to find evidence for his revenge. Which means he will definitely be punished for it regardless how much emperor loves him and this will definitely affect his relationship with SS. Despite knowing all the consequences and what it means for him and his future relationship, he still proceeded to pursue CSS and made her fall in love with him. The irony is that he keeps asking CSS to be honest with him and lean on him. He is upset with her when she doesn’t confide in him. But has he ever be honest with CSS with what’s going on in his mind and his big plan? Not at all. I feel bad for CSS. Idk how she’s going to cope with all that will go down soon.

Now I think of it. I find LBY a bit selfish. Here is why.

Damn he is much younger than me!

One of the reasons I love this drama is that the couple do communicate. And every time they make up after their fights, they understand each other better and their relationship becomes better.
Also, LBY is so consistent. Never did he ever say to break up with CSS even though he was disappointed with her actions a few times. Even CSS thought he no longer wanted to marry her.

It’s hard to believe such lovely parents would give birth to such a irredeemable character.

I am curious to know.

She is so pretty in that white night gown with that hairstyle.

I know it was supposed to be sad when Zisheng was being beaten but idk I was laughing so hard seeing the emperor like a director directing a drama scene.

Her mouth is so poisonous and nothing good comes out of it.
Until the end, she didn’t even reflect upon her mistakes. Still so arrogant.
