Have you watched “Live or Love?” (2025 drama: 24 episodes)? It has only 7.4 on MDL but I really enjoyed it — it makes fun of a lot of tropes because our characters get stuck in a virtual world that’s like a C-drama.

Yeah, hard to appeal to everyone. But maybe it’s like songs in “Dream High” (old Korean drama about student in musical high school) where I felt particular attachment to the students & songs based on the story :)

Was it not pop? It sounded like pop with a touch of rock. But, anyway, maybe that girl becomes a singer-songwriter. That’d be cool 😎

I don’t know about China but early on in the U.S. there was no unlimited voice calls or text messages. You had a certain number of minutes & text messages per month on each line (we had 1500 minutes on a family plan, for example). Eventually things improved and companies would offer things like free nights & weekends (minutes wouldn’t count) or free calls to cellular customers of the same company; then later it’d be free calls to any cellular customers. But she called him from a landline… Unless China had a system like some other countries where cellular customers didn’t have to pay (use minutes) for incoming calls.
Anyway, things were very complicated back then 🤓

I hope he had a lot of minutes in his cellar plan.

In South Korea they have cram schools after regular schools. Also very intense.

There is/was a mass campaign against TXW (lead actress) & this drama. Apparently some people were even buying negative hashtags on social media.

So far it’s a great drama if you have right expectations. This is deeper than a typical humorous/romantic high school drama. So far, feels a bit like When I Fly Towards You but with more exploration of difficulties faced by students (not just the FL) and how they can grow & oversome challenges. It starts off a bit heavy with focus on our genius FL but then has some very lighthearted & fun episodes that are more humorous. So, for now, I think it’s very good but let’s see how they decide to explain why the leads got separated for a few years.

FL is already super smart and can draw well; if she could sing, it may have been over the top.

At that time many plans still probably charged per minute (or had a limited allocation of minutes every month). I had definitely went over a monthly cap talking to my friend and that was $$$ 😳

He’s a third male lead. Most definitely not getting close to the FL. But he’s not bad, even in previews.

The song in ep. 11 was a banger. I wonder if it’s part of the OST 🤩

I have no idea but people come up with any reason. Sometimes it’s fans of a different actor/actress who view this person as a rival; sometimes it’s trolls who masquerade as fans of another artist to share fan wars for fun; sometimes it’s fans of a CP from a different drama and they don’t want new CP to succeed. Just very dumb reasons. 🙄

Totally understand your points. Let’s see what happens. I didn’t even try to figure out spoilers based on the novel because I think they’ve changed quite a bit. But I can sympathize with her situation — she’s like a cautionary tale of what can await the FL. And unlike the FL, the parents are super demanding and don’t make it easy for her.

Alrhough this is more of a thoughtful deeper take on a high school drama. So there’s more exploration of difficulties & pressures different types of students face (not just FL & ML). Whether you like it or not, depends on you — we all like different things and thankfully they make 1000 dramas a year for all of us :)But, personally, this has a chance to be the best high school/college drama since When I Fly Towards You.

Our prayers were answered and he’s good so far. He’s more of 3ML though. We have two pairs and he’s a 5th member of their group of five (similar to WIFTY). Potentially another female classmate may join their group (we’ll see in ep. 11) but for now he’s not attached to anyone.

Nah, he’s alright here. He’s just a 3ML — there are two main “couples” and he’s a 5th character.

I don’t know that she’s be in the core 5 — 2FL’s friend who plays cello (now - bass) isn’t in core 5.
But also let’s give that girl a bit of a break — the drama tries to show up how hard it is to be a teenager, especially with a lot of expectations, and that people can change for the better (like 2FL becoming fiends with FL; 3ML stopping hanging out with hooligans). But I suspect it will stay core 5 like in WIFTY except maybe at some point they’ll show that girl becoming a famous singer-songwriter or a poet.
