If you don't mind the female lead ending with a red-flag ML, then it's HE.If you do, it's SE.
I mean, since I don't like the ML, I don't consider them ending together an HE. I prefer the ML to die a gruesome death, and the female lead to either remain single or end up with the 2ML. Sorry for the confusion.
Same for me i can't stand her, she is so annoying..
Probably until her sister causes an absolute catastrophe.
Just like in the "Song of Glory", where the female lead, as the ruthless assassin, kept letting her evil sister off the hook, until she helped to kill her father and brother.
Of course, the writers tried to make us believe that a ruthless assassin somehow will be okay with letting her evil sister live after her 10th scheme, instead of anonymously killing her in some dark alley.
I watched episodes 1-2 of "Overdo" and read some comments regarding future events. It's funny how it works, and in reality, I'd like to know what makes it so different. So many people are pointing out how poorly the female lead is treating the ML there (whether that's right or wrong, I'm not sure, since I've only watched the first two episodes). Yet when I recently watched "Generation to Generation", with a terrible, manipulative ML who kept putting the female lead in impossible situations... it barely got a sniff in the comments.
Despite having high hopes, I'm dropping it after Episode 2. Yet another supposedly female-centric show where the ML is shoved down our throats every 5 minutes, saving/helping the FL way too much.
It's yet another example, where the writers in C-Drama land know only 3 types of ML: - The absolutely perfect, almighty Marty Sue on steroids type — sometimes in theory weakened by poison (more frequently) or injury (less frequently), but remains immensely powerful. - The idiotic, good-for-nothing simp. - Sometimes they make "1" masquerading as "2".
How about for once making an ML just competent — good enough to handle his own things, but still letting the FL run the show and sometimes being outplayed by her or surprised by how she does things? Would it hurt so much to make the FL able to get out of trouble by herself during ambush? Or be able to knock out the ML with incense? It reminds me of "Wonderland of Crap" — I think I dropped that after Episode 1.
Why do the writers always think the ML has to be on top of everything when there is a Power Couple? Does no one really have the guts to try something different? Dramas like these make me hope that Lu Songli's adventure will never be filmed into a big drama and it will remain a unique novel fully showcasing the FL's abilities.
I'm only planning to find a few clips to see Bu Shu Lin, as the actress seems very pretty and I've read she did a great job disguising as a man. Oh, and a cat (Du Huo?) was super cute (and I dislike cats).
Ow no !! is generation to generation that bad ? I wanted to start it but now I am not really sure…
I'm not claiming it's particularly bad. Try it, maybe you would like it. But the ML there is just terrible toward the female lead, and yet the majority of comments were claiming how much he loves her, how good a couple they are, etc. So, I just have an issue with people (women mostly, as I believe MDL has female posters dominating the numbers here) enjoying red-flag MLs too much (especially if the actor has perfect cheekbones), while putting down any female leads if they are not pure flowers toward the ML.

Finally, I've decided to give it a shot. After opening 10 minutes, I can add it to my collection of supposedly female-centric shows where the female lead dies (almost multiple times here), while the ML goes Super Saiyan on bandits and also ends up saving the female lead.
I don't know, and I don't care how it was written in the novel, but it's quite depressing to see it over and over again.
And of course, the ML looks barely teenage (I can't believe the actor is 29, lol), while his attendant is even younger. All while getting immediately established as a Marty Sue on steroids (while poisoned).
End of my rant. Will I continue? I like Meng Ziyi, so maybe, but it's a tough sell at the moment.
I just watched the initial 2 episodes and was somewhat surprised by how boring they were. Expected much more action from the start, but it's more like a long setup to the whole story. The original intro was indeed terrible, but I probably wouldn't care much if not for the uproar about it. Everything feels weird, but I rarely venture into Republican dramas, so maybe that's why. Lack of screentime for Wang Chu Ran has been disappointing; hopefully it will change. I wonder how capable she will be, as the posts about it were 50-50, while ML was immediately introduced as a super smart and sharp person.
watched for the plot and stayed for the plot(plot = wang churan and zhang linghe's face cards 😎)idc about everything…
Knowing who the main couple is here, it gave me a question at the back of my head - is this the best-looking couple ever? I don't count chemistry or other stuff about fitting together, just the sum parts of the raw power of their cheekbones :)
Typically, I dislike the women's look and overall vibes in Republican Dramas, so I tend to avoid them. But it also has Wang Chu Ran playing the female lead - is it possible to dislike WCR's beauty?
Maybe I'll have to test it myself ;).
Fortunately, based on "Pursuit of Jade", I can tolerate Zhang Li He, so at least this is a good start.
And if the 2ML was cheating, then the fL was doing it as well.
I'm not even sure you are serious.
Actually the 2nd couple wants me to not dropping it anymore :).

There is a novel, and no, I didn't read it.
But I've watched enough C-Dramas to know where it's going after this type of ML was introduced.
It always ends with disappointment for me.
If you do, it's SE.

Back to the vertical drama world.
If only male viewers would get lucky like that from time to time in C-drama land."

Btw, I really like the instrumental intro music.
