Pretty much yes. Whats the chance of the super star Park SH at 35 years old with a kid, to have an EG with a 23 years old new actor in casting? Her previous dramas all have older or very closed age famous actors. And Go KP never lost to 2nd ml in his previous dramas.

There are still 8 episodes to go no need to progress any romance too fast. And I am one who preferred romance to serve a function in the drama, not just for romance.
And chemistry is very individual, typically one sees what one wants to see , so totally not reliable. More should focus on what the PDwriter actually intended.

It is quite true. Now the characters of Junichi and Keisuki are quite clear. Makiko is an unknown factor. The drama will turn dark if her character turn dark suddenly.

Now I do agree with you. In ep 4 Makiko is actually being used as a tool of temptation to clearly show the character differences betwen Junichi and Keisuki, one is a great character not cheating neither his gf nor his first love, while one is evil, cheating on both his current and ex wives. With Naota occuping minimal screen time he probably won't be the main culprit of this drama, while Keisuki is likely now. I can't recall the exact details of what happening 23 years ago and Keisuki probably cannot be excluded from being the possible killer too. Might be the brother of Naota knew some secret of Keisuki causing his death.?
In defence of Makiko now knowing her loved one no longer available she is within her right to do anything with other single man, as long as not cheating.

I can only think of 1 possibility that Junichi likely the killer of the rober 23 years ago (not a punishable crime now but still a crime, although morally probably right), which caused him to put a stone wall surrounding him, especially long relationships with women.
Also read a press release that both leads are not totally upright, meaning they both done something in grey areas.

Basically agreed totally with what you observed, but with the long wait for next episode just add a bit more of my opinions as this is my current favourite drama.
Ep 4 is short only 45 minutes long and it spent most time in the character description of Keisuki, Makiko, and a bit of Junichi and his gf, that's kind of minimising the probability that they are the killer of the shop owner. The quadruple love relationships is all laid bare here too. Makiko's getting physical with her ex is a kind of reaction to her huge disappointment that her chance of a future with Junichi is dashed totally, and imaging what Junichi and his gf would be doing living together. But with 6 episodes to come, this likely would setup the stage later for the 2 leads to get closer considering the drama description with the detective ml meeting his first love in a criminal case ( but this need some dramatic events for this to be possible). But as a jdrama, ending is never predictable.

I heard there is little romance in here ^^ Guess what I'm gonna watch today after work 😋
So far it is a perfect blend of murder mystery with kind of controversial romance (multiple relationships, detective vs his suspect etc) in the background.

Up to episode 4 the drama spent lots of time in detailing the character of 3 of the 4 friends. Junichi seems the most morally upright with him bringing his gf in meeting with Makiko and her son, and not going to dine with her afterwards (even though he might be the one killing the robber when in grade 6, early teen). Makiko, as a single mid 30 mother, only cared about her son and man relationship, approaching Junichi whenever possible even though he is the detective in her case. Keishuki very much consumed in competing with Junichi and, why should he murder someone for his ex wife while he already remarried? All 3 seems not fitting the profile of the killer in current time.

What's up with Makiko? She is eyeing the detective 🤭😋🫣
With romance part of the genre in this drama there has to be romantic tension between the 2 leads. No idea how it will end, happy or tragic.

As predicted. That could be the only possible explanation why he stopped approaching Makiko afterwards with guilty feeling. But nothing is for sure with this drama's twists and turns.

Remember this is a murder mystery, a thriller with unpredictable twists and turns. Usually the most obvious suspect ends up not the guilty one, while the most unlikely one is the one. There is a chance Junichi killed the criminal 23 years ago (it is too long ago so he won't be charged now) and thats why he has been avoiding seeing Makiko afterwards, only watched her from a distance.

Title Pro Bono
I love how they didn't spoil the series with romance.
It is not the normal type of romance plots at all. Their relationship built-up all about trust, which is the key requirement to solve Da Wit's own case, nothing more.

Title Pro Bono
The main plot of the drama is the case of Da Wit himself. It is very very carefully planned. From the conoloscopy of Da Wit, which started from beginning of ep 6, to epilogue of ep 7, leading to the discovery by Gi Ppeum that Da Wit is innocent, the drama always planned for her helping him to prove his innocent. It is the most exciting, satisfying climax of the whole drama, the heroine saving the hero of the drama. One can now concluded that the hand holding the apple of temptation in the poster is that of Oh Jung In. For those who shipped her with Da Wit read below for the romance line:

One can only hope so. With such a tragic past of the ml, a drama cannot allow him keep living in the shadow of the tragedy, even after a year of time jump! And thats the contrast of Pro Bono, that Da Wit grown from the dream of a top judge and his promise to his mother, to someone who focussed on helping the disadvantaged, and the pro bono team
