I get it. I feel like she does show her love a lot too but in her own way. Like when she calls him to get him out of Mr Zhang's dinner in ep 14 because she is worried for him, when she tells him she only wanted a simple life by his side in ep 15, the way she looks at him in ep 16 when she saw him thanking the gods for her exam results, ep 17 of course ... and lots of other
examples. But it's not super straightforward for sure 🙂

Conversation and affection alone don't work very well with the ML because he's convinced he's pushing her away for her own good.

I see it as her trying to make a point. Something like : "you keep pushing me away to protect me but your actions show your love when I provoke you a little, so just admit it already "

But of course, you can dislike that :) Their dynamic does evolve towards the end.

I think any opinion is fair and i get your point but I just read the characters differently. It's not a competition between who had it the hardest and who's being fair to the other. Especially when it comes to childhood trauma.

The root cause of this is that he sent her away for university thinking it was the best choice for her without telling her. But from her perspective, that choice was earth shattering because she lost her only family, again.

Her deepest fear is abandonment, and he keeps triggering that in her. It doesn't matter if he is doing it while sacrificing himself for her and suffering. Actually, that's precisely what she doesn't want. She's asking him to stop being a shield and stay by her side. She's pushing this hard because conversation clearly doesn't work, he thinks he's not good enough for her and he keeps trying to distance himself. I'm not saying her method is the best, but I think they're both equally trying while dealing with heavy emotional obstacles.

I'm curious to see how the binge watching crowd will receive this show. The story telling leaves a lot of room for interpretation and encourages viewers to look for clues before the answers are finally given. Plus, the story between the leads is a full emotional journey rather than just (1) flirting and (2)getting together.

By binge watching, they get the answers faster on one hand, but on the other, they don't get the experience of cliffhangers and thirst for more emotional moments between the leads which create an obsession of going back to previously released episodes to look for the answers for some people.

And about Miao Jing, she's a little surprised and annoyed at first because it feels like he replaced her in her home but I don't think she's really jealous or mad and she doesn't want Tu Li to be in a bad position either. From what I saw, she understands Tu Li's situation and she seems to trust Chen Yi about it too.

Lack of honest communication is the starter pack of leads with deep trauma. He keeps triggering her fear of abandonment every time he leaves, is in danger or shuts down. Meanwhile she tries to force him out of his quiet self sacrificing love by forcing him to go through all emotions and be soft/jealous/happy/annoyed in her presence.
But I really love the fact that they're both genuinely trying in their own way.

In ending of ep 7 and beginning of ep 8, we understand that Chen Yi covered up for the counterfeit liquor during the police inspection. Mr Zhang's conversation with Linda saying that Chen Yi is totally reliable when the police arrives also shows that Chen Yi's role is essentially to keep things clean. We don't know how much Chen Yi knows exactly, but enough to be in serious trouble. And of course, if he is affiliated with the police, he would also be in serious danger facing Mr Zhang. So either way a bad position for him

Chen Yi can be in big trouble if he gets caught as an accomplice in Mr Zhang's buisness. Knowing the shady stuff and still working for him can be enough to charge him. In a lot of legal systems, accomplices are hold accountable under the same charges as the main guys but get a lighter sentence for their minor role. When its organized crime, even a minor role can lead to a very long time in prison.

That being said, we see that Chen Yi kept a close contact with the police officer even when working in district 7 when he was younger. That suggests he may have been an informant for the police as well but we're not sure about that yet. And I think we will find out the exact role Chen Yi played and how Mr Zhang controled him when we discover what caused his PTSD when Miao Jing was away.

He's pretending to be on Mr Zhang's side to better protect Miao Jing during her investigation. He wouldn't be able to cover up for her if he was an outsider.

I was looking for the name of the actor playing Bo Zai in the cast section because this man offers such a great comic relief but I don't think he's listed on MDL . So for anyone wondering, this hilarious performance is from actor Miao Ruopeng.

I love the whole thing about lucky charms in their car. The policeman's charm belonged to his fiance, meanwhile Chen Yi kept the triangle given by Miao Jing. They each keep an item from the person they love the most.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. Hope you'll find answers here and I plan on pushing through for a few more episodes, i'll update you if I get hooked :)

Hello :) I'm on ep 8 but so far the comedy isn't working for me and I'm not hooked. It may just not be my style. Should I expect a change in dynamic/humor/story or should I expect somthing similar for the rest of the show ?

I would be very surprised if his mother's case is reopened in S2. They wrote S1 without knowing if it would be renewed so the end doesn't really leave any open door for logical plot twists at this point. Any new element would seem too far fetched.

Non existant, the leads give off friends vibes for now but It might change in season 2.
