I think you got it. Personally I can relate to XY. She knew Jing likes her, and she has expectation from him. As for XL, she don’t expect anything. She don’t expect him to take her side so why would she get mad?

I agree about XL and 17 as well. XL is winter because he’s cold and harsh. But I also feel like it represent his pure ness. He’s the most complicate character but I always felt he’s the purest of them all.

I think as long as he don't do it again, I don't think she count the attempt against XL because she understand his logic.

I think XY don't blame XL because she don't expect it from him. But with Jing, I think she expect more and sometime get mad at him. XY rarely get mad at XL if ever.

Yup. I love the attention to details. Honestly, they all similar ancient Chinese architecture inspired, but they managed to give each place a different feel/vibe.

Especially Xiyan. I didn't know what it make it feel so different until I noticed that all the trees everywhere have yellow leaves, giving the place a more desolated/solemn atmosphere. Even the wall, furniture is a dark, gray wood. The only place that is vibrant with color is the red blossom tree where CX and XY had their swing, and their red blossom field. I saw the BTS and the trees in real life is green, they CGI it to yellow. It make me feel Xiyan is very "oppressive" in a way, and the only life there is CX and XY. That's what Xiyan probably feel like to CX and XY right now, given what they already encountered.

Agree. Despite being Xianxia they haven’t overdone the CGI. Secondly I find their set colors very pleasant to the eyes. A lot of Xianxia sets end up looking very bright and plasticky. Here they have a more earthy feel. The color palette is on point.

These past 2-3 episodes the production level seem to be even better, especially since they came back to Xiyan. Those court yard scenes with the red blossom tree and the red blossom field, the courtesan house, and when XY poison FFB. Every frame is literal art ~ such a cinematic feast.

Jing thinks his love rival is XL
And for XL, the only rival stopping him from getting XY is himself and never even considered the other two his rivals.

Being an emperor is not simple.

Both their grandfather is the Yellow Emperor. CX dad and XY mom are siblings (in the novel). So they are both prince and princess. However, CX's dad is only a prince, but he's dead. So CX can't relied on his power. XY's dad is the Emperor of Haoling. And he's pretty famous for being ruthless when he needs to. (He killed all of his brothers who staged a rebellion against him, and rumor has it that he killed his own father to take the throne.)

In conclusion, people are more scared to offend XY because her dad is the Emperor, whereas CX parents are only a prince, and they are dead. He been exiled a long time, so he got no power in the Xiyan court. He got no one to back him up. Yellow Emperor has many sons and other grandsons, who are have important roles in the kingdom and who people think will most likely take the throne when the Yellow Emperor pass.

It's due to politics. Xinyue follow her father last name, Fenglong follow his mother last name.
Chisui is one of the 4 major clan. And their mother is the only direct descendent of the clan leader. In order to get marry to their mother, their father agree that if they have a son, the son will have Chisui last name and be raised by the clan to be the next clan leader.

Yangzi is hilarious. No wonder all her castmates always look happy to see her even after their project ended.

So i've been watching the bts clips while waiting for new episodes, and this is the vibe I picked up.

XY and CX: Actual siblings vibe. They fist fight/smack each other. He even teases her and Jing scene. They give off very bro-vibe.
XY and 17: Similar vibe to the drama. She's lively, and a jokester. He's quite, reserve, just look at her, nod and laugh at whatever she said. He's look so soft and obedient around her. Haha. I heard he's just reserved.
XY and XL: Comedian duo. They seem friendly and comfortable around each other, and can take each other joke. I also sense a brotherly vibe from him, but the one where the brother spoil their younger sister vibe.

if that was the case, he would be the obvious choice. why would we even need the other two leads. i mean despite how toxic/bad XL was set up and the drama didn't good-washed him, tons of viewers are charmed by him.

I see. Jing did developed some PTSD and is a lot more withdrawn compare to before (described in the novel), but people react to traumatic event differently.

Secondly, before getting torture, Jing is already a successful businessmen, famous in negotiating deal, and managing the clan inside and out. These are like hard skills to him. Also, when he's doing these things, he's not doing it as Jing. He's doing it with his Tushan tag. He's confident doing them because he know when people listen, respect or admire him, they are doing it because of the power and wealth his Tushan last name brings, not because of him as a person.

As for love and XY, he know his last name don't matter to her. Because of the torture, he felt worthless as a person without his noble birth. So in front of XY, he felt worthless. Because of the torture, his body is no longer perfect. He limps a little when he walk and his body is full of scars. In Jing eyes, XY is perfect. She's kind, smart, and most of all, she's the only one he knew for sure in this world that when she look at him, she see him - as a person, and not his last name. That make XY as the one and only. So when Jing look at himself, he would think what can he offer her, this perfect person. And he would see all his flaws. That's where his insecurity comes in.

No, they are not that powerful.
So the top is the 4 major family: Fenglong, Tushan, Xiling, and Guishang (dont show up in the novel)
Below them are the 6 big Middle Plains Family.
Fanfeng family is below this. So it's a decent family, but not that strong/powerful compare to the other character.

Fangfeng family support Xuan's 5th uncle as the next Emperor. And they see Xuan as a potential threat to their throne. So Fangfeng taking Xuan out is just part of helping 5th uncle. Fangfeng Bei work for the Fangfeng family and he get pay for his work.

CX - He has too many wives so he'll hide that XY's kids are his favorite. So even though he love to spoil them, on the surface he'll act like he treat them all the same. But secretly if he has son with XY, he'll teach him what King Haoling taught him. To travel the world, and learn as much as possible. With daughter, it'll be like A'nian.

17 - I think he'll have the kids listen to whatever XY said, but when she's gone, he'll be super doting. He'll probably raise them the same way he was raise. Doting to all his kids. Give them whatever they want. XY will probably came off like the bad parent and he'll be the good one.

XL - I think with son he'll be especially strict, to the point his son will cry and complain to XY. He's going to teach his son fighting or archery, and then tease him the whole time. With daughter, he'll be putty in her hand. I get the vibe that XL will be so bias with his daughter. XY is also part demon so I think it's possible that the kid might inherit some of XL ability.

FL - I don't think he'll be a very involved father at all. He won't spoil but won't be unnecessarily strict. He'll just expect the son to grow up learning how to clan leader, and daughter to have social skills similar to that of XinYue. I think he just let XY manage the children, and busy himself with court matters.
