Interesting article! I didn’t know specifically what the Chinese government censored (except LGBTQ+) so that was interesting to learn (and see how it applied to Guardian) Guardian is one of my favorite dramas and I’m so impressed with how the MLs (and secondary male leads) were able to convey so much love and adoration for each other within the confines of censorship.
I’m confused about the costume one. Aren’t there several Cdramas that are 100% costume/historical? Or are those not the same? Or maybe they are streamed on something other than TV? I don’t watch a lot of Cdramas and when I do they’re usually modern, so I don’t know much about the different genres and whether I’m describing them correctly lol
I get that they want to make profit but 12usd per episode is way too high. Even Netflix doesn't charge that much…
Exactly! I too don’t blame them for wanting to make a profit, but this is honestly just unrealistic and seems like price-gouging. Unless I’m misreading and they mean $12 for the whole series (which still seems high but is at least comparable to a movie ticket) but I don’t think I am. To be honest, if they’re expecting international fans to pay for this, I think they’re going to be disappointed. Even when BL series are posted for free on YouTube, people will still watch bootlegged episodes lol
Adding on to below comments, I saw a post on an Instagram fan account saying that the cost is 12 USD PER EPISODE!!!! There’s also 3 documentary episodes (which I’m thinking are BTS?) that are 3 USD per episode.
yeah! is it just me or did that announcement come out of nowhere?
I feel like someone commented (while these were airing) they these mini-series were “tests” and whichever one was most popular/got the most votes would be turned into a full-length series.
I keep vacillating between this being "meh" and it catching my attention (I feel like this is a chronic New project…
Speaking of that syndrome...episode 5 felt especially New-esque to me. Lots of scenes with extended, unnecessary bouts of silence, and pauses in dialogue that felt unnatural. It’s kind of funny, because just last week I was thinking how I kept forgetting New was the director because I hadn’t noticed the things I dislike about his works.
I’ve only seen her in Kakegurui and adored her so much! She was amazing in that role (and the drama is one of my faves, as over-the-top as it is haha).
Everybody and their brother is bootlegging this thing. So many pirated episodes from different posters. Gmmtv…
Yes, the bad part about WeTV VIP account getting episodes ahead of when they air on GMM’s YouTube. :( I’m sure it’s part of the deal they made, but I wish people would stop uploading them illegally. I don’t understand what they gain from doing that, and all it’s doing is hurting the producers, actors, etc. That’s what happened with My Engineer and they did finally begin uploading the episodes to YouTube on the same schedule as whatever the streaming app was (maybe WeTV also?). Because the illegal uploads kept coming and it was hurting their business and viewership.

On mobile it takes you to the company’s page but if you scroll down or click photos you’ll see the post.
