The main theme of Daomu is "It's fucking awesome being a rich mobster." (because that's pretty much what the "clans" are, crime families.) If you're going into it for the cute boys being in love with each other, you won't get more than endless wistful stares. The "Hey, maybe they're just really good friends, no homo." thing applies. If you're interested in tomb raiding, the Candle in the Tomb series of movies and shows is far superior technically and way more entertaining. (also...it like explains more stuff and generally the story makes at least a bit of sense.) If you must, Time Raiders (the movie) is by far the best piece of Daomu you can watch. (best actors, actually tight and somewhat coherent story etc.) Then a long long way to go, and then in the distance in the second place it's Mystic Nine, because the characters are fun, even if the story is incredibly padded and makes 0 sense.
OK so is this a film version of the same story as "The Lost Caverns"? Similar to how they did a "Wrath of Time" movie the same year as when the series came out?
Episodes started popping up on YT, I guess at the same time as the show airs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UALBNxtbogWatching…
It's so refreshing to see good actors chosen rather than the most marketable young hotties. Like...yeah, this Hu Ba Yi is definitely the doughiest, but he can act.
Watching the first one, this definitely looks like it's made by the same people who did Wrath of Time. The very first shot is like "woah", you don't see cinematography like that in these Chinese tomb shows very often.

Pan Yue Ming who plays Hu Ba Yi looks like Chinese Ian McKellen.
(also holy shit, this show is goofy as hell!)

And well made - written, acted, directed...Early to say if the whole show is this nice, but so far it's not a disappointment.
