I just discovered Ci Sha, and as someone who loves analyzing acting, I think his biggest strength is his eyes.…
He does. I just watched one of his interviews, and Ci Sha mentioned how challenging this role was for him. He had to balance being restrained and controlled (sometimes appearing as wooden) while still showing enough subtle expression for viewers to understand what the character was thinking and feeling.
Personally, I’m already satisfied with his portrayal — his eyes, presence, and aura carried the character well for me. I was just trying to analyze why some viewers might criticize him for being wooden.
Like with Winwin, I can see the effort he puts into using eye shifts and subtle expressions to show the character’s inner thoughts. But sometimes it still feels a bit too deliberate or “acted” rather than natural and lived-in.
When Chen’s yanyun little sister asked the FL when they started falling for each other and guessed it was around the time CYY moved to Tongzhou for a few months one year ago — around the same time the FL returned.
Man, the things CYY quietly did to get close to her… and here we have Ye Xian and Xuan Qing still questioning why the FL chose CYY. Ye xian/xuang qing when did you guys ever visited tongzhou?
It goes without saying “The one who waters the flower is the one who gets to see it bloom.”
The story of Ming Lan. I am now ep 26 and the main couple are nowhere near the flirting stage. However the brisk…
It’s also on my watchlist, but honestly I’m a bit intimidated by the 70+ episodes. I’m also a sucker for good acting and not just polished visuals, and I’ve read that The Story of Minglan is one of those dramas with a genuinely strong cast and well-written characters.
What’s in your top 5?
To be honest, I’m usually not very plot-specific. I can enjoy slow-paced slice-of-life dramas as long as the acting is good and the characters are well written.
I’m not but I’m watching The Rise of Ning alongside lol there’s a lot of similarities
I will try a few episodes once i get some time. I am always on the lookout for good male actors with effortless acting like bai jing ting or intensity and presence like ci sha and wu lei. So far these 3 are my faves so i am still on the lookout for more actors haha
I’m also interested in Mo Li, but I still have some reservations about Cheng Lei. He’s incredibly visually appealing, but from what I watched in Legend of the Female General, I found his acting a bit underwhelming overall.
It feels like he’s trying to portray a stoic and restrained character, but sometimes it comes across more as an empty, emotionally flat rather than layered intensity. Very different from the kind of intensity Ci Sha can deliver through his eyes and presence alone.
Maybe it also has something to do with Cheng Lei’s real-life personality and natural energy. he might suit warmer, more playful, teasing, or emotionally expressive characters better, because that kind of charm seems to come more naturally to him.
So I’m a little worried I won’t get the same emotional satisfaction that I usually get from actors with stronger internal intensity.
Are you guys watching any on-air C-dramas aside from Splendid Match? I’m really enjoying these daily watch-party discussions — it honestly feels like having a coffee date every day 😂
At the same time, I’m scared to start another on-air drama because I know I’ll just end up pulling my hair out waiting for the next episode. Zhanf zhao adcentures?

Xian qing had one or two short interactions with FL and here he is throwing a tantrum too. Why are these men here so immature?
