I'm curious, whether Yang Cha [Tan Ya's protector] fall in love with Tan Ya or just be "amazed" by Tan Ya....…
It's the "stoic bodyguard in love" trope. Ready to sacrifice himself for her, but never asking her to love him too. Just devoted. I saw that in some others kdramas. Often, the woman doesn't know the bodyguard is in love, or guess it but does like she doesn't know.

Only difference here, and it's big: Tanya reads mind, it's an awkward situation. I don't see how he could hide anything to her. But she still react like she doesn't know. I hope we'll get a scene about that. ;-)

One of my favorite scene of Episode 6 and why (spoiler).
36:30
Ipsaeng recognises Saya and threatens to reveal that he is not Eun Seom.
There is an argument which Saya wins, as he tells Ipsaeng that no one will believe him.
The scene could end like this. Saya leaves.

But the scriptwriters think of a twist!
Ipsaeng then thinks of killing him. A new twist! Saya has just had an idea. He takes Ipsaeng's sword and starts cutting his own throat with it! It's a good way of showing how clever Saya is. Since Ipsaeng is after him, it's a good idea to trap him and lock him up.

One thing leads to another, and later Ipsaeng hopes to trap Saya by asking him the name of the dead slave of the sea tribe. Sateunik, whom Saya cannot possibly know. Once again Saya prevails, thanks to his sharing of dreams with Eun Seom, and is able to give the name. Remarkable use of the fantasy concept, and link with past events.
Brilliant!

There are many differences between S1 and S2. Phasing, editing, soundtrack, camera filter, and script quality…
It's ok. I watched season 1 last week for the first time.
I liked a lot the 2 actors. I take them like that before the time gap.
So I accept easely the 2 new actors. As much talented.

Awkward scene: The Wahan clan meet Tania because the king's son has been kidnapped. The screenwriters are good…
Thanks for the recap. Yeah, I prefer the pace of this season than the season 1.
I posted a last bizarre scene. And I think I'm done with it, I don't remember something else weird.

I watched season 1 last week. And now season 2.Stuck at episode 6. I forgot how it's painful to watch dramas on-air…
A messy scene.
The fire when the two brothers meet (end of episode 2)

With this scene, the writers aim to switch the lives of the two brothers. That's why this scene takes place. So they have to find a way to do it. And that's bound to be a bit complicated. Think about what you would do, so that there is this confusion, but they are separated and unconscious at the end.

Ok, in defence of the scene, I would say that in most kdramas, this kind of fire scene is always awkward.
Here we have two Shahati killers + another killer with a blowpipe (but not from the same team).
Strangely enough, the one with the best chance of success is the killer with the blowpipe. But he's killed by one of the Shahati. I don't understand why. After all, he's doing the job for them.

In theory, each of the two brothers has a physical advantage over the Shahati. They're Igutu (but I can't remember if the Shahati are Igutu too). But they struggle to achieve anything.
Only one of the killers manages to fend them off, mortally wounded, but he has time to throw flammable stuff on the floor and then set fire to it. The second Shahati closes the door with a wooden bar. As Igutus, the brothers should be able to break a wooden plank.
I try to put into my brain the constraints that lead to this mess. All the Shahati have to die in order not to report to the Queen?

Mu Baek arrives, but gets into a fight with the second Shahati. He doesn't kill him but knocks him out (him or her?). Mu Baek saves Saya from the flames, then goes back to look for Eunsom. The killer Shahati wakes up. Why doesn't he kill Saya, who is knocked out of the house?
More mayhem: When Mu Beak enters the house, a child killer also enters. I can't tell if this is the second Shahati killer. It looks like it, but then Mu Beak would have recognised her before? So it's a third killer? She enters through an opposite door! So there are two exits in this house? Why didn't the two brothers escape through the other door?

The child stabs Mu Baek. Mu Beak throws the child (who is knocked out?). Mu Beak collapses. This is important because in the meantime, Chae Eun has to come with the two Neantals to take Saya's body away. The aim is for the guards who come after them to see only Eunsom on the ground and confuse him with Saya. Again, it's all a bit shaky: the Neantals wander off into the distance, have time to come, and so on. And why don't they take a look inside the burning house to see if there's anyone else to save? They're so superhuman that they're in and out in a second.

Finally, the guards arrive. Mu Baek saves Eunsom from the burning house, then dies. It's better that he dies because then no one will know that Saya is actually Eunsom in the palace.

How do you fix all this mess? Aaaahhhh, I don't know, my head hurts. I rewatched the scene to write this review, and I didn't realise the mess was bigger than I remembered. I understand every reason why this scene works the way it does, but it's far-fetched and you can feel it on screen. It's really hard to swallow something like that. And I feel like they did the best they could.
Maybe I'll change the meeting place to something simpler that stands up: on a promontory, for example. The classic thing, with a river at the bottom of the ravine. So, the Shahati attack. Eunsom saves Saya and is wounded instead, only he accidentally knocks him over and Saya falls into the water. He is rescued further on by the Neantals. About Mu Beak. OK, we get it, he has to die? He can come and save Eunsom (wounded and knocked out in the fight) and kill the last Shahati. Then he gets killed by the child killer?

I watched season 1 last week. And now season 2.Stuck at episode 6. I forgot how it's painful to watch dramas on-air…
Clumsy scene:
Yang Cha wants to kill Eunsom (end of episode 5).

I loved this scene, good fight, and excellent surprise with the lightning striking the sword.
However, the start of the scene has two problems:
Yang Cha appears out of nowhere and immediately says, "you put Tania in danger, die here Inaishingi."

1. How does Yang Cha know that Eunsom is here?
It's not a big deal and doesn't need to be mentioned if there's not enough screentime for it. It didn't bother me. But given a bit of time, it would be interesting to do. Two ways to fix this:
- Suspense: an earlier scene shows Yang Cha following Yeol Son (the clan leader). We know in advance that there will be a confrontation.
- Surprise: this previous scene is shown in a short flashback during the meeting.

2. Yang Cha's motivation to kill Eunsom.
This is the main problem. There's no build-up, and the motivation seems to come out of nowhere. The last time Yang Cha and Tania were together was halfway through the episode. And nothing was explicit about his intentions. So, to fix that, this could be an in-between scene, or change the end of the scene with Tania.
Eunsom asks Yang Cha: "What's going on?
Before answering, a flashback with Yang Cha (or Tania + Yang Cha) to make us feel viscerally what's in his stomach and his anger at Eunsom. As the bodyguard isn't very expressive, have something.

3. Another problem: when the lightning strikes the sword, Yang Cha does nothing.
We see that he takes a shock from the lightning. But it's hardly noticeable. Here it's more a problem of directing. When we see Yang Cha again, he looks normal. He should still be suffering from the shock, a little burnt or blackened. At last something realistic so that we understand why he stands by while Eunsom continues to brandish his sword towards the sky.

I watched season 1 last week. And now season 2.Stuck at episode 6. I forgot how it's painful to watch dramas on-air…
Awkward scene:
The Wahan clan meet Tania because the king's son has been kidnapped.

The screenwriters are good at logic and follow-through, remembering every previous encounter. Here, for example, members of the clan meet for the first time in a long time, when they thought the others were dead. Secondary characters. Despite having seen season 1 just before, I wouldn't have known who had lost sight of whom. So, if the scene didn't contain the surprise reconciliation, I wouldn't have missed anything. But someone paying attention to plot-holes might have.

So writers need to give notice of that, and the scene starts with the reconciliation. They're surprised to see each other again, happy, hugging and so on. However, this is completely out of context, because Tania has brought these people together for an emergency: the kidnapping of the king's son. And because it's urgent, the reconciliation has to be quick, and loses all emotion.

How to fix it. I'm not sure that's possible. I'd have to watch the situation again (I can't remember which episode). Certainly, the reconciliation has to take place separately. For example, Tania hasn't arrived yet, they're meeting in this house. So they have time to get together. Then Tania arrives and tells everyone about the emergency.

I think I'm seriously addicted to this drama.

But as weird at it is, with so many competent people doing it, starting with the amazing writers, I can detect some flaws here or there. Nothing that's make me freak out, but it's strange. I don't know if it's me because I changed and have more attention to details, or if it was the same in the previous dramas of these writers that I loved too.

I put in spoilers few details about that.
3 awkward scenes. Tell me what you think about it.
Are they ok or not. If not, your ideas to do it better.

I don't care what anyone says, I am absolutely loving this show! True Penthouse fans will also enjoy this show.…
Hi! Yeah. I was here for Penthouse. I like a lot Kim Soon Ok writer, "queen of makjang". Just she does it with a kind of self-parody many people can't grasp. No writer is better than her to paint bad characters, with lot of irony. Characters you love to hate. It's not only over-dramatic, it's also very funny. I didn't started this drama yet, due to schedule problems. But I'm sure it will be great. ;-)

It's excellent but something is wrong with the pace. Usually these two writers have a good rythm, short and intense scenes. But here, for unknow reason, some scenes are really too long, there are slowness. I can't say if it comes from the writing or the directing/editing. Maybe both, as some long scenes have also long dialogue. But some other slow scene have almost no dialogue and it's a too long duration to see a full dance or mystical ceremony without something moving about the story.

People could think the concept is silly fantasy. But the writer make it greatly logical and real. It makes a huge difference with other dramas with an absurd premice. In W, everything make sens.

Review W Spoiler
I'm one of the biggest lover of this drama, and your review spot the points. It's a problem of balance. While a story focus on twists, plot and cliffhangers, it gives less time for romance. I could say, watch "love story in harvard", more than romance, the perfect love story. But of course, mostly focused on that. So, W can't do good romance on first watch. It's just impossible. But when you rewatch the drama and know the twists, you have time to focus on romance. It's quite a good one, but can't be as good as so many dramas I like about that. I think we can't ask a story to do everything perfect, because its impossible.

A 6?!!!!!!I don’t think so
This review make no-sens. The writer Song Jae-Jung wrote 4 dramas before, ~70 hours screentime, and before countless sitcoms, ~350 hours screentime. In the top five of korean writers with the most experience and talent. AND... W is her peak about quality of writing and creativity, her biggest masterpiece. But it's ok, I'm used to any kind of review about this drama. I know it's not easy content to get and many people can't. But before to say something lame, people should just try to write anything that good and find out it's quite impossible.
Still, here, say "The music is alright but not incredible" is appaling. The team of musicians behind that made the best BGM in dramaworld. Starting with W, but also Memories of the Alhambra, Signal, Save Me.
Here the BGM playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2NaDtc-GK5Uix0-WPa_Ny3xPx_b1RVu9
For example, listen this masterpiece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n2abhI8Adg
Or just listen all, and hear how the BGM are powerfull and make this drama enjoyable to rewatch.

Title Iljimae Spoiler
I'm watching. There are some unbelievable scenes (like the cache in the field), but else, it's very good and exciting.…
SPOILER: weird an unexpected ending. all romances fail. iljimae is mortally wounded by the villain. then his brother finally change his mind, accept to be brother, avenge both their father and iljimae, and kill the villain. last scene, some years later, a mysterious avenger appears, iljimae!! it looks like it's the real one and he survived his wounds.

Note: I had a doubt and rewatched last scene. It could be iljimae brother instead. but the very last shot of the drama show iljima masked face, and it looks it's Lee Jon-Gi, so the real iljimae, not dead. But I can't make sens of this, because a scene before, we see him on the ground, slowly dying, remembering his family. then nothing more about him, no scene where you see someone finding his body, then no indication about him next scenes.
So I can't say for sure what it is, maybe a poetic ending mixing scenes with people years later, and memory of the hero, or an allusion heroes never die?

Conclusion: as it's unexpected and a bit mysterious, I find it's a good ending. but it's true my tastes about ending is not common, and people often prefer straight ending, giving all.
The drama was on my watch list for long. I decided to watch it because I watched Mouse and was mind-blowed by the script, the plot-twist and the ending. Then, I saw it was writer Choi Ran, and she made Iljimae. I was then very excited to watch the drama and did it quickly. And wasn't disapointed! ;-)

I rewatched it more than 15 times. LOL! ;-)And I still find some things I wasn't aware, taaaaa.
That's funny because I put also this drama on "waiting" for years. Then watched it, a bit afraid because I know some kdrama are overated and can be disapointing.
It's a nice drama as a whole but the last 5 episodes are... woo!... how can I say that? Without giving spoiler? Just watch it to the end. The very last part is one of the best ever. If you watched Empress Ki, you can have a hint about that, the crazy fast and tragic pace.
