I rewatched it more than 15 times. LOL! ;-)And I still find some things I wasn't aware, taaaaa.
So, I can only advice you: watch MOTA. It's an awesome drama. Not as much fast paced than W. But even more crazy about time reconstruction of the narrative.
And as a philosophical tip: the important isn't the destination but the path. I mean, in a story, what's important is each step, each scene, and not the end. If each step is great, well, it's great, no matter the end.
As you like a lot Hyun Bin, I can certify he have a wonderful main role in this drama. His acting skills meet a challenge.
MOTA doesn't have a fantasy-comedy feeling. It's more a SF Twilight Zone feeling. Strange and dark. You know, when some impossible events happen, more and more scary, and you wonder how and why, with the doubt it could be something surnatural and frightening.
is this worth watching, just by reading that it's about entering webtoon seems stupid 😅
Masterpiece here. The high-concept seems absurd, but is used with high-logic. Mind-blowing content and plot-twists. Also, deep thematics about freedom and creative activity.
Yeah, rewatch it. This drama is really deep. And I think you liked a lot in this, according to your review. Even when you could be disapointed by some aspects. But I'm used to read all kind of review about this drama, often with lot of interest, whatever my own opinion.
I think you could like it because it answers to some of your questions and also, I noticed some points your talking about and I'm using that in the story (but quite late, in the second half).
About a point you question: why Yeon-Joo go into W one year later at the end. Because Kang Chul goes first (triggering Final chapter), but then go to prison, so does nothing during one year. According to the manhwa rules we already know, when main character does nothing, it's like a time gap. So Yeon-Joo come one year later. We could also see that as a story need, it's very meta, but it fits the same goal.
As you noticed, some characters in the manhwa are very simples. Not only because they are manhwa characters but also because screentime. The drama is complicated but could have been much more if the screenwriter didn't set some priorities. So focus on the two main characters first and free time about secondary ones. Because the plot goes very fast, so there isn't much time. It's more a movie writing than a series one about that.
You liked the OST, but give a ear to the background music (you can find them on youtube), really making this drama more great than it is. And allowing to rewatch it many times, while feeling the same goosebump.
Even when I love this drama, myself was looking about plotholes, but was surprised to not find many. There was a rewatch on "bitchesoverdrama" blog, and we made notes of all the weird things. And not many holes was coming in the way after rewatching and analyze. I found a big plot-hole in the script but... It wasn't made on screen! Just luck, because the director focused on somehing else. It's a bit too long to tell all. As I'm myself chasing plot-holes, I could only say for a so complex story, it's a miracle there isn't more plot-holes. When proofreading my own script, I found some (and made correction), but these damn bugs have a crazy ability to snake in, even for rude logical guys like me.
while watching this messy thing i had biggest roller coaster of emotions i have ever had... but it was definitely…
The way is the scene order help to provide this intensity. Often, you get a suspens/mystery first. Then some explanation later. So we are in the shoes of the characters trying to understand the crazyness that fall on their heads.
I stopped to watch them, as I've loose confidence in the writer. Sadly, as she was one of the best, and I liked her older dramas.
But for a reason, I can't get what she does since Descendants of the Sun. Goblin was boring like hell, TKEM too during 10 episodes, and confusing,, spliting time into too much characters.
So I should drop the glory. Like you say, I don't want 8h of setting from this writer.
"But then, the drama slowed down a lot", "They cut to a different scene often to focus on each of the many characters, but the scenes themselves are boring to watch. This drama is an example of nothing's going on, but actually everything's going on."
Thanks, it helps a lot. I was expecting something like that, but other reviews don't speak about that.
Hi, I've read this short but nice review after seeing your other review about the chinese remake. Maybe, if you like the W concept and twist-and-turns, check my blog about W season 2 screenplay. If you also like to read (but easy, with lot of visuals and pictures) maybe you could enjoy to find a new story following the first season, with same characters and a lot of new trouble for them.
If this website wasn't full of biased fangirls/fanboys, dramas like Queen Seon Deok would've topped this. Every…
Still, in this list, my first vote was for W. The FL isn't really smart about a lot of things, while the ML is smart is in a super-human way, and we really feel it during the drama. It's quite normal, as he's a manhwa character with super-will, super-intelligence and super-intuition. HOWEVER...... when it comes to manhwa, the FL is as smart as the ML !! She discover tons of things, is able to understand it, to do something with that. Can guess what guess the ML at the same time. Can understand anything say the ML (and sometimes it's quite crazy). Finally save the life of the ML far more than the reverse. Really great intelligence, but mostly about manhwa or supernatural phenomena.
Obviously. Even if about Queen Seon Deak, I would rather give the Female antagonist. ;-)
In the end, yeah, the heroïn is the smartest. But well... I like the actress in other dramas, but here, she lack charisma. At first, I think it's normal because she start low, but after... I couldn't get that. So I prefer Lady Mishill, the actress is so impressive and also, the kind of beauty I like. Of course, it would be useless to fall in love for her, she has a stone heart. ^^ I prefer the actress when child. So good. (and smart too!) Then this actress made some other drama once adult. Suspicious partners for example. She was good actress in this.

So you make me worried about other shows on air. Kdramas go that bad?
You can read/watch my screenplay for season2.

Even better when the role is ambiguous and she could be a bit bad in the story.
Beautiful bad woman. 💔

Also: hair down creates a problem, we can't see fronthead micro-expressions.
