This is a watchable drama with an interesting premise and I intend to watch till the end. I am at ep 20 and it…
The "no communication" trope was so ridiculously forced here. How did they not have a single chance to tell Jun Qi Luo about the bride swap master plan?! lol that was literally so stupid haha Even if she didn't want to hear it... that was just lame writing
I haven't commented on the acting in this drama so far because, for the most part, it was passable and I could still enjoy the show. However, as we move into heavier, more emotional scenes, itās becoming impossible to ignoreā¦
I'm sorry, but Angelababyās acting just doesnāt work for heavy emotional moments. It was already a bit meh for me, when she had zero expression when the King bestowed the marriage in ep.19 ... her lack of emotion was almost deafening. Just widening her eyes and slightly opening her mouth doesnāt convey emotion.
But ep. 20 really left me disappointed. When she discovered her entire family had been executed, the scene should have been gut-wrenching, but instead, it felt empty. Her performance had no depth, making it uncomfortable to watch and the dubbing didn't make it better.
I havenāt seen her in any other dramas, so I canāt judge her acting as a whole, but in this role, her range feels extremely limited, which is a real shame. Emotional, heavy scenes are an opportunity to go all out, but here, they just fall flat.
Yeah sorry, but I just had to get this off my chest once lol
edit: But in all fairness, the directing and editing were just as bad! They made her more emotional and devastated when she had to leave Xuan Lie than when she learned her entire family had been executed. Thatās just another case of poor production choices dragging things downā¦
Just finished ep. 10 and⦠I donāt know. They had their wedding, but I didnāt feel a thing. The writing is odd that I just canāt enjoy it lol. And itās not even the flawed characters getting in the way... itās something else.
The romance feels so off, like the writers have no clue how to craft a compelling love story and development.
Theyāre really out here making me lose interest in the couples. I canāt even pinpoint exactly what irks me, but itās definitely there haha
Still, Iāve waited so long for this... I donāt want to drop it yet...
I'm all caught up now and wow, this just keeps getting better! I absolutely LOVE the angst! Dramas that strike the perfect balance of angst are just so thrilling to watch! The story is well-written and the tension between the leads remains strong.
The odds are stacked against our leads... I honestly donāt see how this could end in a HE. The only way they could have their happily ever after is if they abandon their identity and family/clan entirely and elope together. Or theyād have to stage a coup against the current reign, but I don't see that happening either...
Just finished episode 16... And Iām glad I didnāt drop this drama. When it comes to story and characters, itās actually one of the best out there right now. Funny enough, itās the drama Iām enjoying the most among all the ongoing dramas Iām watching right now haha š
So for newcomers who might be disappointed by the production qualityāstick with it! It improves and the story and characters are worth it :)
On ep. 15 now... Never would've thought but crazy princess Qing Kou is growing on me lol No doubt, she's still a red flag, but I love that we got an interesting, greyish 2nd fml for once :D
And I can't help but actually like her with Shao Qi Min š Just let this be my guilty pleasure hahaha
On. ep 14 now... I know he tried to kill Xuan Lie, but I couldn't stop myself feeling bad for Xi Mo, when he died. His and his father's greed killed him in the end. Literally, "Caught in oneās own trap."
So, I paused this at ep. 4 and nearly dropped it. But I gave it another chance and I'm on ep 11 and actually enjoy it now haha :D
If you can ignore or get used to the bad production quality, some ridiculous looking scenes and bad dubbing, then it's fairly enjoyable! If you lower your expectations and get used to the production quality, then the drama is actually good! The story is entertaining, I like the leads and I really like this tribal setting. That was my driving force to start this.
Of course, this would've been so much better with decent production and all! So that's kind of a downer, but I'm still glad I didn't drop it :)
Two eps in and Iām really enjoying it overall! Especially the daughters and their mother. But my gosh, Fan Liang Han is beyond annoying. I find myself wanting to skip all his scenes. I really hope the heavy focus on his marriage shifts in the upcoming episodes because I canāt stand his childish antics.
I doubt Fu Hui will divorce him since heās still a passable husband and merely āimmature.ā But even if he gets some major character development later, I can already tell this couple wonāt interest me, so their scenes are likely getting skipped...
I dropped MM after 4 eps... It just didn't hook me. I loved TBL, but the ending could've been better. By the end of the day, it's just a matter of personal preference :D
Just finished this drama! š Overall, it was good, but I wasnāt a fan of the Hao Tian story arc... Introducing a new "big bad" in the last few episodes felt unnecessary. We already had such compelling antagonists with depth, so why insert such a one-dimensional villain?! The final episodes ended up feeling a bit too chaotic and confusing for me.
I was really hoping for a "Demon Lord" arc, but instead, we got the less exciting Hao Tian arc. My expectations didnāt align with the direction they chose for the story. I genuinely thought weād see the Demon Lord slowly falling for the current Mu Xuan Ling/A Zhu and becoming "good" again.
The dramaās description even says: "Mu Xuan Ling used love to awaken the demon god, dispelling the catastrophe and bringing peace to the world." But nope, we didnāt really get much romance in the final stretch.
The scenes in the Forest between the Demon Lord and Mu Xuan Ling were such a delight! Mu Xuan Lingās raging outburst and the Demon Lordās startled reaction had me laughing! They had such a fun dynamic. I wish weād gotten to see more of that! An advanced love story exploring a merged Zhao Ming/Xie Xue Chen/Demon Lord falling for Mu Xuan Ling while grappling with A Zhuās memories could have been incredible.
The potential for emotional depth and complexity was right there! I know it wouldnāt have been easy to pull off a love line with merged personalities, but imagine how compelling that couldāve been! Definitely more exciting than what we ended up with š
That said, I truly loved this drama for most of the journey. Episodes 1ā33 are a solid 10/10 for me! The last stretch? Maybe a 7/10. But Iāll be generous and give it an overall 9/10! š
The CGI is hilariously bad... I couldn't stop laughing at that speeding wolf in ep. 2! š And the dubbing? Absolutely atrocious š I really expected better production quality from this. Looks like I'll have to switch off my brain to to enjoy this lol
For now, I'll keep watching for the story and plot. Nothing else is winning me over, but I do like the overall story and the tribal setting.

"All that "men don't kneel" talk. It's just for show. At home, we kneel to heaven, earth and parents. One more kneel for a beauty will break it?"
The odds are stacked against our leads... I honestly donāt see how this could end in a HE. The only way they could have their happily ever after is if they abandon their identity and family/clan entirely and elope together. Either way, Iām here for the ride!
