I haven’t watched a Jdrama in ages and this one honestly surprised me. It’s cute, refreshing, not annoying at all and the characters are genuinely likable! I’m completely in love with the FL’s smile. It’s so beautiful and sweet. I wasn’t sure if I’d like her at first, but she turned out to be such a lovely and endearing character. She’s not the annoying “innocent & cute” type, but the genuinely likable kind of cute & innocent.
There are also no cliché SML or SFL here. I really appreciate that they didn’t make the SML a jerk just to make the ML look better. He’s actually a good guy. The FL and ML are adorable together and their relationship develops naturally from friendship, without all the overdone, dragged-out misunderstandings. Usually, Japanese rom-coms follow the same tired pattern: a misunderstanding near the end, they break up and then reconcile in the last five minutes.
Even though the final episode hasn’t aired yet, it’s pretty clear they’re not going down that boring route. They’re going through a “difficult” phase right now, but I think that’s more about Hikaru’s insecurities. He’s dressing more often as a man now and doesn’t seem as confident as he does when cross-dressing, like Shu said, it’s his armor. That might be why he’s acting a bit more domineering now. But I’m pretty sure they’ll talk it out. That’s what I love about this couple! They actually communicate. Not perfectly, but they try and that’s what matters most.
I binge-watched 11 episodes in one go and it was such an easy, enjoyable watch. I don’t usually watch many Jdramas anymore because their romance plots don’t hook me like they used to, but this one kinda did. Now I kind of want to give more Jdramas a try. Any recommendations? 😂
Ahhh, now I know why the youth actors seemed so familiar to me! There is a yt channel called "짧은대본 ShortPaper" that does ongoing short story series.
One of my favorites (still on-going) actually features the same actors. Jang Deok Su (young Jeong Seok) and Geum Min Kyeong (Hyo Ri’s bio mom, Cho Rong). It's funny seeing both of them here. Since they have a vague love line in that short story haha
Since I started this drama when it was already near the end, I ended up binging almost all the episodes in the last few days. Maybe that made my experience a little different, but I absolutely loved it!!!! ❤️ It was heart-warming, sweet, sad, funny and so much more. Maybe exactly what I needed at this moment.
I’m glad I’m not the type who only goes for high-rated or hyped dramas, because otherwise I probably would’ve missed gems like this one. And honestly, I cried in every single episode. Maybe I’m just too soft, but the comforting and thoughtful dialogues really got to me. The acting was amazing too, no complaints at all.
I loved everything. The family dynamics, romances, friendships and even the gossipy neighborhood characters. It’s more of a family/life drama, but I also really enjoyed the romance. Both couples had such healthy, balanced relationships with great development. I also loved how Ji An / Bo Hyeon, as well as Jeong Seok / Hyo Ri, built such a strong family bond. Felt like a wholesome family by the end.
This drama was so well-written and the only KDrama I’ve been watching lately. For months I’ve mostly survived on Cdramas, since it feels so hard to get into KDramas these days. Is it just me? 😂
Anyway, I’m so glad I gave this one a try. It pulled me out of my KDrama slump… though now I’m right back in it lol 😂 I started watching "My Youth" since it’s also slice of life and romance, but it hasn’t really hooked me yet. Well, let's see...
I binged 10 eps this weekend and wow, this drama hit me right in the feels. I think I cried and laughed in every single episode, because it’s such a perfect mix of heartwarming, sad and funny. Weirdly enough, I couldn’t really get into all those hyped, top-rated K-dramas lately, but this little hidden gem did the magic.
I guess I really missed those dramas with sharp dialogues, witty banter and heartwarming words ❤️ I'm scared of how this will end, but I already know regardless that I will finish another box of tissues 😭
Why is this like almost the only countryside drama, where the noisy, gossipy neighborhood folks don't annoy me?! lol Why do I rather love them gossip? haha
I feel a bit lonely commenting by myself, but it's okay. It's just me enjoying this drama wholeheartedly 😂
"I blent in with the flowers too well. In case you can't find me. So, I'm kindly telling you where I am." lol Why do I enjoy this couple's bickering and remarks so much haha
One thing I’m confused about……. if the two countries were going to make peace and become allies anyway,…
It wouldn’t have been easy, since Shuang technically “betrayed” her country by letting Jin An go and DAD killed Yao’s people while he was Jin An. That would’ve always fueled unrest in the court and among the people. If the two of them had married, I’m sure the court would’ve riot.
Besides, neither of them wanted that kind of life anymore. In the end, it’s actually better that they got to live the life they truly wanted. Even before giving up their identities, they had already agreed to live a simple, conclusive life once the countries were at peace.
I only felt bad for Ting and the Chenfang Army, who kept believing Shuang had died. I really hope they found out the truth someday.
Jeong Seok cringing at himself in ep. 8 made me laugh so hard hahah I love well-written middle-aged couples lol I might be in the minority, but I enjoy the parents' love story more 😂
I’m on ep. 7 now… and I get that Hyo Ri has her own pain and struggles, but it bothers me that she shows more concern, care and comfort toward a stranger than toward her mom’s trauma.
It almost feels like she’s more concerned about Dr. Jung’s pain than her own mom’s suffering. I don’t know… something about her attitude toward her mom kinda irks me. Even though it’s a pretty realistic portrayal, because it's so much harder to express towards a loved and close one. It just hurts to see that Ji An has to spell out her feelings and make it obvious for her daughter to recognize her pain, while with Dr. Jung, Hyo Ri is instantly more attentive and gentle.
Knowing that Ji An went through life bottling everything up, without anyone to comfort her, is honestly so painful to watch. I’m just really glad she has such an amazing friend like Seon Yeong by her side.
We all hated the Empress Dowager with our whole hearts, but wow… the acting was impeccable! She really gave it her all. I can’t believe I even felt the tiniest bit pity for her in that prison cell, because her performance was that good!!
Did I hate CP? Yes. Was I against his redemption? Yes. Did I want him to die? Yes. Did I forgive him after today's…
I really hate to admit it, but I also didn't hate him to the core anymore when this drama ended. He finally gave up his personal vendetta, to be a good emperor.
Still don't like him, but I guess I'm fine with him staying alive lol
I loved her so much! I'm easily bored and annoyed by second couples, but here, I loved them equally as the main couple and that's because Lu Xin is easily one of the best characters in this drama. They deserve a spin-off lol
Wow… it’s rare to see such a perfectly paced ending, which leaves the viewers with no loose ends and regrets. Honestly, this is one of those dramas that keeps getting better with each episode. The last 10 or so episodes were easily the highlight of the whole show, which is something you almost never see in dramas.
This definitely deserves a higher rating, but I’m sure everyone who stayed until the end will agree with me. For me, this is Cheng Lei’s best drama yet. It showcases his acting beautifully. I’ve enjoyed many of his works, but here he truly shines.
I haven't seen Song Yi in a lot of dramas, but I also really liked her in this one! They had really great chemistry and matched pretty well acting-wise and visual-wise!
So weird, but all the other Kdramas airing right now or in the last few months didn't catch me at all. Even the popular ones kind of bore me... But I started to watch this today and finished first two episodes. And I really like it so far. Already made me teary and emotional.
I really hope Hyo Ri sees soon what kind of amazing person her mom is and how much she suffered in her life. While I can understand Hyo Ri to some degree, she's really unfair to her mother. I felt so bad for Ji An, especially after seeing some flashbacks of her past T-T
Are we even watching the same drama? lol The only bad thing he does is forcing her to marry him and everything…
Haha sorry, I got a bit carried away lol
Well yes, imo, he got them killed, because if he hadn't betrayed them and spiked Jin An's drink, the psycho bro and wizard would've never been able to kill her residence. Ep. 25 around 5:30.... so many casualties. They fought all night and in the morning you just see the ground covered with the bodies of those poor brave girls.
