Most likely the script is modified from the SM, because the synopsis of the novel (i don't read the entire novel, so i don't know more) clearly stated who died on the Tokyo subway sarin attack (20th march '95).

Meanwhile in the drama, the 20th march incident happened and his dad survived the attack (different person from the novel's synopsis)
