Even I have reservations about the direction and editing. The wide shots are so wide that you can only see the dark set around the actors and can't even see the actors' face clearly thereby missing out on their microexpressions. Also, cuts between each character are quite abrupt, not letting the expression of the actors truly set in. This I've noticed in the first 6 episodes which have subbed by avv. Especially with actors like HYX, Reba and Ci Sha, who are very emotive and take their time to set in an expression, before the expression can truly make an impact in relation with their dialogue, the scene switches to another actor. Maybe this improves in the later episodes. Kind of understandable too since they had to cut down from the original length quite a bit. But it does affect the storytelling.

But he's also supposed to be very powerful and a demon whose taming is supposed to be difficult. That powerful aura does not always reach. However, I've seen that subs make all the difference. So maybe his power will be communicated once we understand what he's saying. Plus as someone said in another comment, he doesn't look particularly 'tortured' when he's being tortured in the earlier (fan subbed) episodes. But that can also be attributed to the direction.

Haha funny. I don't think Allen Ren is miscast and he does the cold face smoulder really well in latter parts, but he doesn't look dangerous per se. So I agree with the creator there.

You're right. And I'm very particular about spoilers. It's mu personal rule to bige watch directly after the drama has finished airing. I've been looking forward to this drama for months because we haven't seen HYX in period costume since 2020. But getting spoiled while waiting for subs, which might still be a month away, is not suitable for me. Hence, I'm cutting myself off from all drama news of TBW. Will surely visit this page once both parts have been subbed in their entirety.

I have decided to take a temporary break from this page and drama. Waiting for the subs is getting unbearable and I don't want to reduce my enjoyment of the drama by spoiling myself more. Will watch other dramas for a while and come back once both the parts have been released with subs (all episodes too, can't wait daily for new episodes after having waited so long.)

My favorite Korean miniseries ever, for everything including the plot, acting, chemistry between the leads and in fact all characters and production quality, is The Mermaid Prince : The Beginning, starring Astro Moonbin and SF9 Hwiyoung. Their acting is soooo good in this drama. Truly highly completely recommended! Must watch.

Actually, I'm not watching the drama yet because of the lack of subs, my assertion is based on some scenes and edits that I've seen. Eagerly waiting for the subs

I like his styling in the drama, especially now that his role has evolved even more. His manly build and looks coupled with his puppy dog eyes and great acting make for a swoon worthy watching experience.

You're right, they do!!! They make for a very unique looking couple and I've liked their interactions so far.

His overall look with his cleft chin and broad forehead and well built physique is very manly.

I actually like him with the longer hair. With his recent look, he cuts quite the commanding and imposing figure.

His recent styling and look as well as his acting throughout the drama really makes one sit up and take notice.

True, even fandoms and popularity play a role. Hence many times, popularity trumps quality when it comes to casting choices for high profile dramas in order to attract more audience and make more money. Storytelling and good portrayal of characters takes a back seat.

Somehow, I think Aero Xiao looks much more handsome with the long hair (especially with his new hairstyle and styling in the recent episodes) than his modern short haircut with spikes.

Actually, I ship her with Kong Ming too. I saw a video of their BTS together and they're already giving off CP vibes. Plus, I know that HYX is a master at creating chemistry with her costars, especially male costars. They will make for an interesting looking couple to be sure but if their chemistry is good and believable, then my shipper heart will be more than happy. I know it's challenging to picture them together,appearance wise but hopefully the actors still make it work, if the script and their romance arc is good enough.

Allen Ren is blooming in this character. His journey from innocent and happy Chang Yi to this cold and brutal Lord of the North is a treat to watch. I am loving his expressions and acting at this point of the story so much, he positively smoulders.

The casting choice is certainly interesting. Wonder what's the story there. I've seen some bts of Luo Luo and Kong Ming together and somehow they make it work in that they look cute interacting with each other. Fingers crossed that it still works even though his look and styling is not ideal as per the novel.
