On My ID Is Gangnam Beauty Jun 28, 2022
I really liked this! Quite a feminist drama, deals with a lot of topics like beauty standards and sexism. I loved Chau Eun Woo's character - he consistently called out when other men were sexist and talked a lot about beauty not being important, he was loyal, trustworthy and quick witted. I don't think it is a coincidence that CEW always chooses such feminist dramas to be be the ML in, love that for him. Everyone in this drama gets what they deserve, very satisfying :) Would recommend!

It started out nice - slice of life realistic romance and friendships. But I dropped it in the middle of season…
It was obvious that the drama wanted me to ship the two leads because they were childhood friends. Such an overused k-drama trope, and I felt like it was done in a really messy way. The second lead was such a good boyfriend and they had great chemistry, why does she have to end up with a toxic childhood friend? Both main leads were kinda emotionally cheating on their partners, this became an unbearable watch, I was not rooting for them. But it was packaged as though it is romantic and this is destiny and they are always there for each other. At least in Nevertheless the point was that it is a bad relationship.

That was an upsetting way to handle disability, what are we supposed to take away from this show, that using a wheelchair is worse than being dead?! WTF??? Also the way the filmed the last scene makes me think that they initially shot an ending where he dies, but then decided not to kill him off and shot an ending with a double, because Lee Je Hoon was busy maybe?

Wow, that is a really ableist show, this was a really bad way to portray disability. This show had such a good premise, why did they need to add all of these unneccesary storylines that never got resolved? I really liked the casting and how all the actors played their roles, but this drama had a weird plot.

It has a similar vibe and themes as "Mad for each other", but less about romance and more about solving murders. Actually really dark, despite being funny. I liked it, really good actors. Would recommend!

Title Monstrous
Very cool premise and aesthetic, star studded cast of talented actors. I liked it, but this should have been a full length 16 episode drama (or at least 10 long episodes). There were so many characters with complex backstories, but there was no time to properly explore any of them. As a Kwak Dong Yeon fan I really enjoyed his acting and how insane his character was, the man DELIVERED. Also really nice to see Nam Da Reum all grown up and finally playing his own character after years of being the boy who plays ML in childhood flashbacks. A lot of the CGI looked meh and a lot of things happened or didn't happed because the plot needs to happen and the main chacarters need to survive. This drama started strong, I wanted to give it a 9, but by the end it is more of a 7,5.

Did someone understand why she didn't fall under the curse again when the statue eyes were revealed? Woman and…
Because she is the main character and someone has to destroy the statue so the curse can be broken?

Title Blueming
This was so good! High production value, good actors, so much depth and character development for a short series. This is the best BL besides Semantic Error. I really liked that queerness itself was not a problem for any of the characters, they were just two people dealing with their own shit and falling in love, in a very natural and realistic way. The series itself might as well be set in a world that has no homophobia, which is so rare in shows and movies. There are no overused tropes. Any preconceived notions about the characters are shattered, they are much more complex than it seems at first sight.

Also really liked how they kept using the color blue, but in a really subtle way. Slice of life, slow paced, aesthetic and realistic. But it should have been a full length 16 episode show - I felt many times like there was a scene or an explanation missing, was a bit confused by some of the jumps. I didn't read the webtoon, I guess the story is told with more detail there? I actually was lost a couple of times and didn't understand what is happening, but I guess it doesn't matter that much, it is more of a tone poem.

When they announced that Cherry blossoms after winter is being made into a drama I was really excited, but was disappointed by it after watching - this show is what I hoped CBAW would be. My faith in good BLs is restored! Blueming is such a good example of what this genre should be, this is the blueprint.

On Business Proposal Apr 30, 2022
This is the K-Dramaest K-Drama to ever K-Drama - it has pretty much every trope and cliche that this genre has to offer. If you want to introduce someone to K-Dramas , I think this show would be a really good example to explain what the genre is all about. High production value, excellent actors who all have great chemistry with each other, a lot of funny scenes.

But I just did not like it. Every single problem that the FL has could be solved within a couple of minutes if she would just stop lying. Every conflict that she has, she unnecessarily created herself. Also really annoying how long it took the ML to figure out who she really is. By the second half of the series I was forcing myself to watch it and every episode felt like a tedious task that I really didn't want to finish, so I dropped the show after 10 episodes. I kinda get get why people are into this drama, but I also don't get why it is so hyped. Business Proposal is not as good as other dramas with the exact same plot.

On Cherry Blossoms after Winter Apr 27, 2022
It is fluffy and cute, but the webtoon was much better. This is sadly nowhere near the Semantic Error level, which is what I thought this would be. Cherry Blossoms After Winter is a bit too low budget for my taste (like all BLs really) and it felt like something is missing. Would this be better if they had more time and money? Yeah, probably.
They also skipped a lot of good plot points and changed some of the details. Tae Sung was much more confident in the webtoon, and the drama kinda skips over what Hae Bom is thinking and feeling. Also some of the actors looked too much like they are acting, and in some important scenes the characters were out of focus, which for me was really distracting. Did they really not have time to shoot enough good takes? They story felt a bit chopped, which is not the case int he webtoon... Also absolutely hate it when the intro is just a 1 minute summary of the whole plot. I did cry because of how cute the story is though, so it is not bad. But not as good as I hoped it would be.

Meh. The pacing is all wrong - the first 6 episodes is just the setup of how the main charachters meet and get to finally interact with each other, then episode 7 starts with a montage of them working and hanging out with each other and then they are inexplicably close to each other and then I stopped watching. How could the story possibly be meaningfully resolved in the remaining 15 minutes? The story stars off really slow for such a short running time, and most of the time is spent on long shots of the protagonist looking at something and not having the courage to do what he wants. Yes, I know the movie version is slightly longer and better edited, but there is no way extra 20 minutes can offset it, so I am not gonna watch it. Did not like this one and would not recommend it.

Title Hello Mr. Gu
Pros: FL and ML are really good actors with great chemistry, the drama is really funny, the production value is high, the FL is confident, fun and has a cool career (hate it when the FL is shy and mousy).

Cons: By the end I was really rooting for them to break up, this couple had major communication problems. The ML is actually an ass who refuses to go to therapy. Last time I was so infuriated by a couple was in "Nevertheless", except there it was the point that the relationship is not good, but here it is packaged as romantic. Quite a toxic relationship actually.

Overall this is a typical romance drama with every cliche. Best chinese drama I watched so far. Hope these actors get more roles!

I like the indie aesthetic: really cool visual language, nice camera angles, the FL is confident, both actors are attractive... But I could not finish it, it just looked reaaaally low budget. It is shot on such a cheap camera, and not in a cool way. They clearly did not get the funding they deserved. Could not get over the low production value, even though the had all the right ideas.

Apparently there is a season 2, it doesn't look like there are english subs yet, but you can watch it in chinese (I mean the plot doesn't matter anyway?). Also it seems like the production company that made this also makes a bunch of other show that are filmed in the same locations and with similar storylines, this is a fascinating rabbit hole to get lost in...

The plot was absolutely nonsensical and the production was super low budget. The two main actors were reeeally attractive though and the ML has this whole dangerous daddy dom vibe, so it was kinda hot. A lot of pinning the FL down, she is also tied up in the beginning and he threatens to spank her. But he is also super abusive, this is not a fluffy romance. It scratches the same itch as the whole 50 shades genre I guess. This is a super trashy drama. Also the FL wears a coat and a scarf for most of the time for some reason, even though the scenes are inside? This series is really bad but I also watched the whole thing in one sitting and really wanted to know where the story goes, so I guess it wasn't that bad. I hope both of these actors get to play a real role in something with high production value.

On Kingdom: Ashin of the North Sep 23, 2021
I was very confused about the timeline, because they didn't do anything to deage some of the characters that appear in Kingdom - so either Ashin is supposed to be really young when shown as an adult, or the men don't age at all. Don't get me wrong, Jun Ji Hyun looks amazing and could easily play a character that is in her 20s, but me knowing how old the actress in in real life and how nobody else ages left me very confused about how much time passed.
