I really enjoyed watching it and finished it in two days, BUT I am not a fan of how the main characters were written. The two protagonists themselves have no character arc at all, I have never seen this in a k-drama before. They start off as a Very Good Boy ™ and his funny friend who is really into being a marine. That's it, those are literally the only character traits they have and they stay exactly the same until the very end. The two of them actually have surprisingly little dialogue for a big chunk of the show. Their friendship does not get explored, their wounds heal super fast and every struggle they have gets resolved within the next 10 minutes of the show. Do Hwan's character is a total Mary Sue. I am very impressed with all the muscle he gained for that role, he must have trained so much for this! But this show was so carried away by the little red shorts the two guys are wearing (they do not skip leg day!), that they forgot to write a personality for the protagonists. Do Hwan does all he can with the few emotional scenes he is allowed to have, but he didn't get much. Even most villains and side characters got more of a character arc and backstory. I also find it silly that every time they fight it's 1 guy against 30 (the good guy always wins). It is not very nuanced - the good guys are very good and the bad guys are cartoonishly evil. I think it is a great watch, but don't expect anything complex story wise, or any thought provoking themes, this show is not like D.P. or Weak Hero.
P.S. maybe I am being too nitpicky, but there were a couple of times when the fighting choreography was a little too obvious, I know they are not fighting for real, but I still want it to look like it is a real fight.
Barely made it through episode 1, it is cringe and frustrating and it did not get me hooked. The villains are very cartoonish. The first episode has one of my least favorite tropes: in order to protect a loved one, characters don't tell important information to the loved one, and because they didn't the loved one doesn't take the situation seriously and gets in trouble because of that. Judging by the other comments this was the best episode and it only goes downhill from here. I started watching it because I wanted to know what the worst k-drama ever is like, and honestly, it is just meh and boring and not even a good hate-watch. The fact that Strangers from Hell and Mouse are listed as being kinda similar is a crime, A Superior Day is NOTHING like these shows. If you are looking for a smart thriller, look elsewhere, this is not it.
This was really good, the best c-drama. The casting, the writing, the acting, everything was on point. I felt a bit weirded out by the fact that the story begins when FL is 14 and ML is 19, but everyone behaved appropriately and the topic of the age gap was dealt with responsibly and enhanced the storytelling. Beautifully done, not surprised by the high rating!
You absolutely will not see the plot twist coming, I guarantee. Kang Ha Neul is a brilliant actor, I found a new appreciation for him. I have never seen anyone mention this movie in a recommendation before, this is a hidden gem!
This one did not age that well... If you want this type of story maybe try What's wrong with secretary Kim or Business Proposal for a slightly more modern take. Unless you are specifically looking for that oldschool kdrama feel. The show was made in 2016 but had a low budget, looks like it was made in 2010.
That was darker than expected. The synopsis is really badly written I would say this is a weird indie movie, a slice of life story about a young girl who goes through a lot. Major trigger warning for pretty much everything that could be triggering. Great acting, a bit of an arthouse movie, really awesome soundtrack.
That was way darker than the series, did not expect this. While I was watching it I kept thinking "why did they ever think this type of story would work as a movie?!", but I think I get what they were going for with this one. I think they didn't need to include a lot of the scenes, so it would be more clear about what parts of the story are relevant. The series version is more character driven, what decisions the different characters are making, how they feel and how they change over time, more slow burn study of all the protagonists. The movie is trying to be a thriller told in the context on that one specific relationship. The ending worked for me, but at almost 2 hours the movie was way too long. I like all these actors, but I think the series version had better casting choices.
Really high production value, tastefully done, complex charachters that felt real. The cliffhanger really took me out of it though, that was a bit much.
This was so good! High production value, I love that the BL miniseries are getting better. I usually don't watch the low budget miniseries because of how they look, but this one stands out with it's quality. Loved the cat-guy, his acting was on point and very natural. Super cute k, but simultaneously emotional and impactful k-drama, I cried a lot. Highly recommend, do not skip this one!
I was so excited when I started watching this and was wondering why the rating was so low, how could they possibly ruin such a cool show? And boy, did the ruin it. Now I am wondering why the rating is so high, lol. I was shipping the two leads so hard and I really liked the cast, but I hate where the plot went after episode 8. There is a reason all k-dramas end after the leads finally get together, I did not want to see how this relationship gets sour. The ML suddenly changed his whole personality and so did FL. I thought she was a strong woman who doesn't take any shit, why did they do Lee Da Hee like that? Seriously, do not watch after episode 8, it only gets worse.
I had decided not to watch this one seeing the reviews, but now I realize I had planned to for Yim Si Wan. Probably…
Don't listen to all the people who are complaining, this is a good movie and I liked his acting. Don't miss out on this movie because some people thought it was meh, I am telling you to watch it, lol listen to me instead :D
That was so good! The editing and the camera work is amazing. Siwan as a villain worked for me, such a creep! I loved that movie, why is the rating so low?!
