The way the characters solve medical mysteries/crimes is a silly - they go to the woods and randomly stumble upon a crucial piece of evidence right away, or just happen to know a vital piece of information because the episode is almost over and the plot needs to move onto the next story. CSI: Joseon. The villains are cartoonish. A ton of exposition in the first two episodes. But this show is very self aware and doesn't take itself too seriously and has a ton of characters that are there for comedic relief, but still makes the sad and dramatic moments impactful. I kept watching because of the chemistry the couple had and because of Kim Sang Kyung. I prefer historical dramas that are more serious and have a higher costume budget, but I still enjoyed watching and did not feel the need to drop the show.
Naming the show "Joseon Psychiatrist" is actually a spoiler, because ML starts only thinking about mental illness in a scientific way by the very end of the first season. I think the title of the show is misleading, it's more of a crime solving k-drama. Joseon medical detectives. I am gonna go watch the second season.
Beautifully shot, high production value, intriguing premise about doom and darkness, great actors. I cried a lot while watching. But man, that k-drama just kept dragging on! This should have been 10 episodes max. Several episodes could be just completely cut out without ruining the plot, there is so much filler! The last episode was so unnecessary, literally nothing happens, I just kept checking when it will finally be over. They could have explored more options of dealing with the "contract", but they devoted so much time to just showing the main characters hanging out in a cute way as a couple and with their family. Too long!
Short and sweet high school time travel historical drama with absolutely nonsensical depiction of history, but it somehow works. This k-drama knows exactly what it is and doesn't take itself too seriously. Splash Splash Love is very consistent with the themes, the tone and imagery. Super cute. If you want something light and naive with a teenage Joseon time travel plot, this is actually pretty good.
OMG, this is so good, why are people not recommending this more?! Yeo Jin Goo has intense chemistry with literally every actor and actress I have ever seen him in a scene with.
Meh. I watched it for Eunwoo and if he wasn't in it I would not have watched it at all. Unless you are into one of the actors, I would say skip this one, and if you watch it be prepared to be underwhelmed. A lot of scenes felt disconnected. TThere was a lot of filler and exposition, and some plot lines that should have been built up slowly were handled within an episode. Some of the characters should have been introduced earlier on. This should have either been much shorter, or longer to let the characters develop. Island is weirdly written, like it can't decide what type or narrative structure it should stick to. Is it a "new monter every episode" or a "everything is connected" type of show? This probably worked better as a webtoon.
LOL, the writer has no idea what an eating disorder is, I am not even sure they googled it. But overall it is a cute little eMart product placement miniseries with a nonsesical plot.
Meh. Slice of life, almost nothing happens in the plot. I don't think the acting was bad, the actors didn't have much to work with in the first place. Almost every scene can be cut out of the movie without changing the plot, lol. A LOT of fanservice shots of oiled up topless men in tiny shorts. Maybe skip this one unless you are really into Irene or Seung Ho. Fight for My Way kinda has a similar plot, but with stuff happening.
Really intriguing premise and great actors, and yet its kinda meh. This feels like a webtoon with super cool panels, but they didn't really develop the things that are between the panels. I haven't read the webtoon, maybe it works better than the live action version. The story moved so quickly - it is just 6 episodes, which is not enough I think. Or maybe this should have been a movie? Some of the things happen not because it makes sense, but because there are only 2 episodes left and thats why it needs to happen, we gotta wrap up the story and the plot needs to move.
Also the premise itself is that a connect is immortal and that took me out of the story - he can't be killed which is established right in the beginning of the first episode. By the last episode I was not worried whether the character survives, I had the same questions as the villain about how exactly connects work. Clearly they left room for a second season, which I probably would watch I guess? But I won't be excited. Something is missing... D.P is based on a webtoon, has the same actor and the same amount of episodes, but manages to deal with so many complex topics and made me feel things, but Connect doesn't have any of that.
If you like that genre give it a try, but this might be a bit underwhelming.
This one is very weird. Arthouse. I kinda liked it. Not for everyone. There is a very specific type of person who will enjoy this, I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. But if you are into weird aesthetic shit, give it a try.
Wow... and I don't mean it in the nice way. There is a good idea somewhere at the core of this plot, but it gets drowned by all the fat jokes . I kinda see why it was a commercial success back in 2006, the production value is high, the plot is cohesive, but this did not age well. I would not recommend this. Pretty good example of mid 2000s outfits though.
I personally think they only had plot for 8 or 10 episodes max.
honestly, this applies to almost every kdrama - it could be edited down to 8 or 10 episodes and it would be so much better paced and unnecessary plot lines would be dropped. I don't know why they always insist on 16 episodes!
This is one of the best korean dramas this year (or ever?), highly highly recommend. Such a cool plot. I don't know why the rating is so low here on MDL and why people aren't talking about it more. I absolutely loved it!
Some can coincide. Move to heaven is the top rated drama on this site but I find it so harmful as an autistic…
Oof, thank you for the warning about Move to heaven, I was really excited to watch it, this is a major deal breaker for dramas for me. Korean dramas are notoriously bad at writing any type of disabilities or mental health issues. Lee Je Hoon also played the ML in Where stars land, a show that is probably the worst offender at how it portrays a disabled character in a wheelchair that I have ever seen, it is infuriatingly ableist. I want to like that actor, but I am so disappointed that he took this role, and now you are telling me he also played one of the main roles in a show that portrays autism horribly. I hate this. But it is not surprising, considering how bad Korea generally is at treating disabilities in general.
A lot of bad dramas here that I and a lot of people agree with, but also surprisingly a lot of dramas that are universally considered good for some reason? I feel like these should be two separate lists like one with "dramas I would not recommend" and another list for "popular but overrated dramas", then the list would make more sense
