I’m conflicted about starting the book - I want to know but I also don’t want to spoil myself. Will see how…
I didn’t read the novel. I just meant I want to get spoilers so I don’t waste time like I did with Have a Crush on You, but sounds like that drama didn’t follow the book.

After reading the book, I actually wouldn't mind if the drama starts veering off from the novel. Not that anything is bad, just not my personal preference. Also, after the disaster that was Have a Crush on You, I want spoilers.
So I binged all available episodes starting late last night. And then today, I found the English translation and read the book. So far, the show is following the book very closely: most dialogue is straight from the book. Surprisingly, the book does not offer more insight into the characters' thoughts than the drama does.
This is my first time seeing Jing Boran act. I've seen him on variety shows before but never thought him particularly handsome, but he's definitely handsome in this role.
Once I got past JT's dubbing, this drama is really good. Maybe he will finally have another drama that matches the standard set in Autumn Ballad. I can't wait until they both reveal their martial arts.
I really hate the dubbing for Jeremy Tsui in this. It's really jarring how different it is from the voice in Chongzi. I don't know how Chinese audiences can handle back-to-back dramas where the same actor's voice is completely different. Tencent should have at least tried to be consistent and used the same voice actor. I saw some comments that he is dubbed because his real voice is too deep, this dub is also really deep.
Started watching this because everyone seems to be raving about this drama... Well, after 4 episodes I can say…
Your assessment is spot on. I also think the key word is "silly." I am still watching because it's amusing enough, but I am not captivated. There won't be any rewatching for this one, but I've dropped everything else and this is the only drama I have at the moment.
Huge logic flaw: if he has a PhD from the US and even offered a teaching position there, why does he need an English translator? He should be able to read everything himself without any need for translation.
My biggest problem with this drama is the FL's wardrobe. Everyone else is dressed sexy and sophisticated, and she dresses like a frumpy librarian in bright colors. The lead actress has a beautiful figure, but she is covered in so much fabric. The dresses she wears for the two major events in show are so bad.
I'm tired of everyone telling FL to hold onto ML. All they see is a handsome doctor and don't look beneath the surface. It is also FL's fault for never confiding in her family or her best friend how he treated her and acted during their marriage. There are so many specific examples that would have them taking her side, e.g. his leaving for US without even telling her, how he never once told her he loved her, how he never talked to her and it was always the best friend that would tell her about his work, etc, etc
ML has still not apologized to FL for the past or when he treats her badly in the present.
Poor SML being strung along and ignored. He is truly smitten to put up with that hot mess going on with her ex-husband and her family still treating him like son-in-law.
