this drama is great for those who are not out to nitpick it but try to actually watch and immerse in it as dramas should be watched instead of looking for "flaws".
Yeah...I don't know about that π€£ i mean did episode 34 made it up for all the torture of awkward scenes we've…
Perhaps the scriptwriter and/or director believe in the notion that people need to suffer to deserve happiness. I felt this angst in one of my fave dramas The Sword and The Brocade where the leads got together I think in ep 32. Another fave drama Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms was also terribly angsty. But in the end, all the angst was worth the ending

i also have a feeling the scriptwiter and director adhere to the belief that people need to suffer to deserve happiness that's why they prolonged the angst

The discussion topic "Choosing a Partner Like a Venture Capitalist with Shi Yan [Long] [Analysis]" has a good description of Shi Yan's love journey up to when he decided on Shu Yi halfway through the drama. And the journey was just starting to get torturous then. Actually, his love journey started 3 years ago, when he first heard her name in the awards ceremony and has not forgotten her coz he probably develoiped a crush on her journalistic prowess. Shu Yi's love journey started when Shi Yan rolled down the car window when she pretended to be looking for a powerbank. Her eyes couldn't hide her admiration, but because of her flakiness, she didn't come to grips with her emotions until after Shi Yan got mad at her.

I didn't find it draggy at all because I was focused on immersing myself in the scenes. As for immaturity, it's realistic. Even intelligent people become confused and unpredictable when it comes to matters of the heart. The immaturity and misunderstandings are part of their love journey. I was totally engrossed in that journey.
Based on cdramas I've watched, there seems to be a belief in Chinese culture that people need to undergo terrible suffering to be able to deserve happiness. This must be why Shi Yan and Shu Yi were made to undergo as much torture as their lives could provide - to deserve the happiness they got in the end.
