Omg, I loved The Crown and 1995 Pride and Prejudice! The last one is a masterpiece in my opinion. Mr Darcy is…
That’s why I love Dylan’s portrayal of Shi Yan. He reminds me of Mr. Darcy. Haters keep criticizing Shi Yan as being stiff. In fact, Matthew Macfadyen’s portrayal of Mr. Darcy in the 2005 film adaptation is much more stiff.
Shi Yan’s shower scene reminds me of Colin Firth’s Mr. Darcy taking a dip in the lake 😁
When you have biases, especially if you like other actors and watch a cdrama not featuring your faves with a closed mind, you would find something to criticize about that drama. Because no cdrama is perfect.
I have never watched a cdrama as perfect as The Crown or the 1995 British mini series Pride and Prejudice. And I'm sure there would be those who would criticize my examples of drama perfection because that's how different people's tastes are. Case in point, I'm not a fan of Game of Thrones which a lot of people adore.
I watch cdramas because they entertain me. Especially those with sweet, titillating romance that I hardly find in US productions anymore.
And Only For Love entertains me immensely. I like how quirky the characters are but lovable. None of them is perfect. They each have their own idiosyncrasies. Shu Yi has that revenge thing going on that makes her act erratically. Shi Yan is struggling with his feelings for Shu Yi, making him unpredictable. Shi Yue is a stalker. Yu You sometimes rejects her, sometimes leads her on. Guan Ji and Shanshan can't decide whether to stay free or commit to each other.
Just like in real life. Who among us is perfect? So why should we expect drama characters to be perfect and act the way we want them to? The writer has a right to create original characters. But the funny thing is, if a story is original, there would be people who would criticize it for not conforming to certain conventions. If a story is familiar, there would be people who would criticize it for being unoriginal and cliche.
When people want to criticize, they would find something to criticize, even things that just exist in their heads.
Dylan does't possess much facial expressions in his acting, even his body language is stiff. I know he is supposed…
One thing i've noticed with Asian drama actors is their tendency to overact. So I suppose fans have gotten used to that kind of acting. Dylan does not overact. I find his acting elegant, that's why he is one of a few Asian actors I can stand.
'just completed another 36-episode cdrama where the couple first kissed almost at the end of the series, around ep 34 or so and it was okay.
I guess the explosive chemistry between Bai Lu and Dylan is making us all antsy 😁
It seems Shiyan and Shu Yi are finally getting together in ep 19-20. The episodes are being released at 13.14 on 11/11. 13:14 means forever or for a lifetime
Shi Yan's low-key confession in ep 15? In a temple, he surreptitiously put fortune sticks that say "... the right one is already in love" in one container and gave it to Shu Yi for her to draw a fortune from 🤣
hehehe, she reminds me of Bridget in Bridget Jones' Diary. Somewhat shameless, she gets into all sorts of embarrassing…
this is the best acting i've seen of her. it's easier to act out crying scenes than making people laugh without becoming a caricature (i've done some amateur acting). Shu Yi is a complicated character. she is smart but also naive. she tries to be as sophisticated as shanshan but her conservative nature holds her back. one of the funniest scenes in the drama that viewers probably didn't notice was when she was wobbling after her horseback ride with Shi Yan and trying not to show how scared she was. it's small gestures like this that add layers to her character and make her funny and lovable.
Shi Yan's business talks show not only how intelligent he is but how passionate he is about making a contribution to society. It also explains why he is extra careful about a romantic relationship. As a venture capitalist, he is all about risk management. It's part of his psyche. But Shu Yi understands where he's coming from. She also understands the world he lives in. So, this shows that, at least, in intelligence and interests, they're compatible.
Omg, I felt second hand embarrassment watching Zheng Shu Yi closing her eyes and putting her lips like that waiting…
hehehe, she reminds me of Bridget in Bridget Jones' Diary. Somewhat shameless, she gets into all sorts of embarrassing scrapes. But she's lovable like Shu Yi. And Mark Darcy just accepts her as she is, like Shi Yan does.
Can't agree more... the acting also is unconvincing.
when Dylan mentioned this in an interview - how he has learned to accept how he looks, even his eyes - i realized that's the reason his gaze strikes different. their unevenness makes them extra mesmerizing 😄 then i got conscious of other peoples' eyes (including mine which are uneven) and realized how common this condition is, even among celebrities, such that when i see even eyes in celebrities, i wonder if they had been surgically fixed 😄
I wonder how much was Dylan and Bailu paid for the drama.. such a waste of their talents... sigh!....Was looking…
i like slow burn, allowing the couple to get to know each other better. and this actually made me appreciate Bai Lu’s and Dylan’s acting skills more. this drama could have easily become a slapstick comedy but their nuanced acting avoided that
