On New Year's eve, Shi Yan felt extremely disappointed to know Shu Yin seemed not as into him as he was into her.…
I think what bothers Shi Yan the most is that, while a part of him wants to believe she has fallen for him, the other part suspects that she is pretending to like him so she can feature him in her online magazine. These two possible reasons for her actions were weighing heavily on him. When she uttered her career wish, he probably felt like his suspicions were confirmed. It's not that he doesn't value her career. What devastated him was the thought she does not love him but has been using him to further her career.
Regarding our smart but clueless girl, yes, that is quite possible, somebody who is smart in one aspect of her life and totally clueless in another. Aren't nerds like that?
At first glance Shi Yan and Zheng Shuyi appear completely mismatched for each other. He is taciturn, solemn, methodic,…
Remarkable! The depth and breadth of this analysis is staggering. May you put this in the Discussions section? I would like to point to this next time I encounter another comment complaining about Shi Yan and Shu Yi not having had a proper conversation yet.
Vote for Your Favourites.(Mine are: 1, 4, 6, 10, 13, 17 & 18)1. His response of “That’s not that difficult”…
this adds enjoyment to watching the drama, thank you so much! I love recalling drama scenes and compiled under a certain theme to boot! My favorites are 1, 4, 6, 9, 11, 12, 14, 17, 19, 20, 27. The one that sent my heart somersaulting the most is #19. Those fortune sticks said "the right one is already in love". That was a confession, though only the audience knew.
Girl can have dream, you dont have to sulk if she’s not all over you. Shiyan loosing some points from me for…
hahaha, he became a 2-year-old 😂. I actually like that these two are flawed. Adds dimension to their characters. Thinking she was not that into him as he was into her must have been a crushing blow to him for his character to regress that much. And he was behaving so unpredictably at the racecourse, it's like he has taken leave of his senses. And perhaps he did. Shu Yi's effect on his mental state is staggering. I'm excited to see how he would be able to collect his wits and be the cool CEO again.
I love slow burn, but usually it happens without any courting. Usually they just slowly develop their own feelings…
On New Year's eve, Shi Yan felt extremely disappointed to know Shu Yin seemed not as into him as he was into her. Based on his petulant behavior afterwards, he must have felt the world crash at that discovery. I think he had planned to confess, even propose, that night. He had made preparations for who knows how many months in advance, getting a room booked and ordering a truckload of roses. But our clueless girl just had to ruin the whole setup with her career wish lol. Shi Yan's extreme reaction might be due to the amount of time he had been anticipating that moment. I think he has been crushing on her since he saw her 3 years ago at that awarding ceremony. He hasn't forgotten her name for 3 years, so that's a serious crush. As is often said, the higher the expectation, the bigger the disappointment.
The complaints about this drama are laughable because all cdramas, even the acclaimed ones, suffer from one or more of these flaws. At least 80% of cdramas I’ve watched suffer from poor writing and/or direction as well as dragging pace. The cdrama I admire the most, Nirvana in Fire, has zero chemistry between the lead couple in my opinion, though I'm sure there are those who think otherwise. And NIF has been described by Imdb reviewers as “mind numbingly slow” and having “bad lighting, horrible lip synching and cheap production”.
Fact is, if your enjoyment of a drama is largely dependent on how much you like the actors, you would have a hard time appreciating dramas that don’t feature your idols or at least actors you can empathize with.
As for this drama, I’m enjoying it immensely because of the sizzling chemistry between the leads as well as their on-point portrayal of quirky characters. I’m basking in the funny and endearing depiction of how they are getting to know each other better, bonding through texts and shared experiences and interests. No dull moment for me. In fact, I’m enjoying re-watching it now.
The 2005 P & P is also my go-to adaptation to watch when I’m longing to see Lizzie and Mr. Darcy but have no 6 hours or so to spare for the series. Indeed, those traits of Mr. Darcy perfectly describe Shi Yan. Lizzie herself misunderstood Mr. Darcy’s reserved nature as a sign of rudeness, so it’s not surprising that Shi Yan’s reserved nature plus his elegant bearing has been mistaken for stiffness
1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice is the best. And yes those drama is very good. The characters are quirky…
lol i can discuss P & P every day. i feel happy recalling scenes from that series 😁. i’d like to do this for OFL too. if only haters would allow us to enjoy it in peace
You wrote my thoughts exactly. The thing is that you can never satisfy humans, our wants and needs are diverse.…
i agree. in fact, SY and ZSY have been talking seriously about topics they both care about. their minds are bonding, even while hesitating to fully open up their hearts to each other. i think these haters are not really watching the drama
You're not the only one making Mr. Darcy comparisons :D
lol the similarity is so striking 😁 and Shu Yi reminds me of Bridget in Bridget Jones’ Diary that also stars Colin Firth, Mr. Darcy in P & P, this time as Mark Darcy. 😁
Shi Yan's shower scene in an early episode reminded me of Mr. Darcy's dip in the lake in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice. It titillated a lot of viewers 😄 When I saw him looking dapper in the riding clothes, the similarity of their appearance and personalities struck me
Don't get me wrong I love both leads in this drama. It's the script that's killing , nothing against the actors.
the quality of writing in this drama is not worse than many cdramas I've watched, some of which have become big hits. considering the many cdramas with bad writing that have become blockbusters, i thought bad writing in cdramas has already been accepted by fans. But I wouldn't even lump OFL among those with bad writing because I find the story and characters quite interesting. I've dozed off while watching some "big hits". I'm lapping up every episode of this drama.
It's official, Shi Yan is Cdramaland's Mr. Darcy 😄. His elegant carriage and his curt and taciturn nature (unfortunately mistaken for "stiffness" by haters), the dashing way he looks in riding clothes and his passion for one woman he is struggling not to love but is hopelessly devoted to, harken back to the hero of Jane Austen's novel 🥰

I felt their chemistry from their first meeting. not just physically. they're well matched in intelligence and interests too
