At the end Zhai Xing was killed by the wicked, greedy yet vengeful 2nd prince You Gui (Yun Wang), when she went to rescue the 4th prince You Zheng at then captured as hostage.

About that evil emperor Chu Kui, yes, he did deserved his karma. At his end, he was blind (been poison by Yao Ji) and murdered by his son the 2nd prince You Gui (Yun Wang). Considered as his karma, as previously he had massacre the whole previous dynasty's all the royalties and robbed the throne. Chu Kui is not born as royal, he was just a warlord.

That "bird women", she's not a "bird" or "bird shifter". She is Yao Ji. Another pathetic victim captured by the evil emperor Chu Kui, after he massacre her whole village. And later held as prisoner kept underground and gone thru lots of tough and cruel trainings to be the evil emperor's "weapon" / assasin. Her values are good in spelling poison or healing poison.

But she is very clear that, she is just an "asset" of the evil emperor, in order to live, she had to carry out evil orders by the evil emperor. If fail to do so, will be an useless asset and will send to be imprison again.

She was captured around the same time as the evil emperor rescued and captured the wolf. Then imprison both of them underground and gone thru the most cruel trainings. That's why she understood the wolf's characters very well.

When she was released out from prison, at one side she had to pretend to be evil and does evil duties for the evil emperor, at the other side, she wanted to help and save the wolf from troubles and dangers. Coz both of them knew, they are just assets of the evil emperor.

Yao Ji is also a witch doctor. Expert in all sorts of poisons.

That's why when she finally had the chance, she escaped to Jing empire to save the wolf, coz he was been poisoned. She also thinks of many ways how to help the wolf away from being kill when the evil emperor send the wolf to the slave field (been ditch away becoz the wolf disobeyed the mission by the evil emperor, so the wolf was send to the slavery field as punishments to do slavery hard works).

Overall, Yao Ji she is not an evil person. She had helped Zhai Xing and also the wolf (Bo Wang) alot.

After everything is over, she survived with her assistant. They left the Yang empire (Chu Kui's empire) and open a clinic help saving people from sickness and people got poisoned. Considered as doing good deeds.

At the very final, 4th prince You Zheng inherit the throne and had a peace agreement with the Jing emperor.
Cuz no more other brothers. Eldest brother was framed by the evil emperor during war, his assistant general was instructed by the evil emperor to poison the eldest prince. 2nd brother You Gui was killed by 3rd prince (the wolf / Bo Wang) as he had killed Zhai Xing. 3rd prince the wolf / Bo Wang was been poisoned by 2nd prince You Gui. (What a terrible father emperor to all his sons).

In another way to say, it seems like karma for payback. Chu Kui massacre the previous dynasty and robbed the throne. At the end, karma pays back and none of his sons can be united and long live. Just like the old saying, what goes around what comes around ...

Storyline is good, production and actings and OST are good as well.

But I'm not sure what type of genre you're interested.

This story is about a boy that been brought up by wolfs and lived on the wolf's moutain, and he met a girl who just lost her mother. This girl her identity is a hidden secret and will be a powerful identity in near future.

Since they befriended when they were young (around teenager time), they had the most purest happiness and fell in love for each other.

Not too long later, tragedy happens and separated them into different lifestyles and identities.

In actual, is still the wolf boy and the girl, but they had grew up after 8 years later.

Except the wolf boy had became a powerful general serving an evil emperor.

In deep down his heart, he missed the girl very much, but at the other side, he misunderstood the girl for some issues that happend 8 years ago.

So as the story goes on, it was a mixture of all sorts of emotions, love, misunderstandings, warm and cold treatments, guilts and secrets, wrong ways to protect each other.

The story contains lots of love for each other, but because there was lots of forbidden truths to be honest up.

At the end, from lots of love turned to became lots of misunderstandings and hatreds, revenge, bitterness and sour, then love again but too late ended with regretfulness.

Indeed is an interesting story, but is a sad ending story.

So if you're not prepare or doesn't like this sort / genre type of C drama, you might wanna reconsider.

Yes, these few you mentioned were good dramas. Legend of Phoenix and Sound of Desert thou is slightly old dramas, but the storylines are good.

Hmmm ... I respect your decision and understood why. Not everyone likes sad ending stories. If you don't like such type of drama, try avoid a few like "Goodbye My Princess", " Princess Agents", "Ruyi's Royal Love In Palace" ... These few belongs to sad conclusion type of C dramas.

Yao Ji is not a "bird shifter" or sorcerer, though she was locked up in a bird cage by the evil emperor (Chu Kui).

She was the emperor's "Night Evil" (Ye Sha) cum witch doctor. She can spell poison to someone and also healing someone.

She was also a pathetic victim of the evil emperor.
Her whole village was massacre by the evil emperor Chu Kui and she was captured at almost the same time when "the wolf" (Bo Wang) was rescued and captured. Then Chu Kui held them both as prisoners underground, letting both of them went thru the most cruel trainings to become the emperor's assassins / weapons. Then when they are ready, is to be send out to do bad stuffs for the emperor, or in another word to say, being use by the emperor.

At first I thought Yao Ji was belong to the evil. The way she always wants to compete with "the wolf" and proven who is stronger and more valuable to the evil emperor.

But in actual, she is very certain that, both herself and "the wolf" are just "weapons" for the emperor assign to carry out wicked tasks, if they wants to live.

Thou her words are always sounded like "cold spear", but in actual she understood "the wolf" more than anyone else, coz they both been through the most toughest and cruel trainings. That's why when she was let out from the prison cage, her intention was trying to do good or help "the wolf" out of troubles and dangers. But it was tough, at one side she had to pretend to be evil and obeyed the evil instructions by the evil emperor, at the other side, she was trying her best to extend her help or do good.

That was also why at the end when she finally had the chance, she rather left the evil empire / Yang empire and went to Jing empire to help out. She did it right, at the end of everything was over, she and her assistant survived, and they open a clinic to save people from sick and heal people that been poisoned. Considered is doing good deeds.

And you're right, this version we are watching, is the edited version, not the original version when this drama was filmed during 2018.

They changed several parts of the story.

The wolf at one part was supposed to be thrown into a poison pond as punishment. That's was supposed changed him into something like a "welf wolf" as he got poisoned and when he was angry. But they decided to altered the original version of all these parts. No wonder there's no "welf wolf" but just a guy that with super strength that's all.

Ah huh ... Yes, indeed.
Very regretful, bitter, sour and saddening ... Be prepared around episode 34 onwards ...

That emperor Chu Kui can go to hell ... ! What a terrible father and a tyrant. The throne was not even his. He robbed it from the previous dynasty and massacre all the previous dynasty's royalties. But somehow, there's always a 1 or 2 missed out and will seek revenge in return. That's why his ending his death was a repeat karma. He massacre so many in previous, at the end he was murdered by his own son and got blinded. Just like the old saying, what goes around what comes around ...

Are you ready for the ending ?

If yes, then the answer is, indeed, is a sad, tragic, bitter, sour and regretful story ...

If you don't like or not prepared for this type of regretted love story, probably you might wanna reconsider or be prepared for it.

Before I started this drama, I actually browsed thru several YouTube's previews. That's where I found out, it's gonna be another sad story. So, choose to watch or not to watch, I decided give it a watch, after all it's not my first sad drama. There's so many I'd gone thru.

Moreover, this is just a fiction, based from a novel. Not a real historical drama. Very similar like "Goodbye My Princess", "Princess Agents" ...etc.

22:02pm. Finally completed all 49 episodes in 3 days.

Sigh ........ It's a good storyline, but felt very "heavy hearted".

Next aim drama - The Fated General / Huo Qu Bing, it's gonna be a real long drama with 92 episodes.

Don't know why this drama The Wolf was supposed to be aired during 2018 but only now they just released ...

No wonder 3 years ago I was aware of this drama and kept waiting but no sign. I thought, just forget about it. Maybe some issues they just decide not to released.

Yes, Zhai Xing did married Ji Chong. It was Ji Chong's idea in order to "silence up" the mixed troops' rumours. Partly was also Ji Chong actually really did loved Zhai Xing.

What do you mean "JIC" & "FI" ?

Yes, she later did tough up herself. But when you reached to episode 30 onwards, when the truths started to reveal out, is sad to see Zhai Xing's feelings & characters had turned to hatreds and avenging.

Yet Bo Wang (prince wolf) is also another fool and ego guy. There was many oputunities he could had explain it out, but he chose to be silent and continued letting Zhai Xing misunderstood him for everything, to repay his wrong doings.

That's how from so much of love turned into hatreds and so much of pains for both of them.

I didn't mean to spoil your mood for this drama,but you gotto have preparations.

It's not a happy ending story.

It's really sad and sour ending.

Zhai Xing went to rescue 4th prince You Zheng, but at the end she got herself killed by 2nd prince You Gui (Yun Wang) ...

The rest, you can guess it already ... It's all wrapped up / concluded at episode 49.

From episode 25 - 27 & 34 - 37, it's damp emotional as in so much of sadness, so much of love but so twisted, so much of hatreds and so much of pains in return ...
I don't know what to feel, just feeling so ain't worth for both Zhai Xing and Bo Wang / Chu You Wen / Prince Wolf ...

All because the damp emperor Chu Kui ... !

Pardon me of revealing my opinions of part 2. If any of my points had mention anything you are not happy about, I apologize to you in advance first.
I think, part / season 2 wouldn't be as interesting as this part / season 1.
At this season 1, the "baddies" all are shown and "finished off".

Characters like - Song Ming Shan vs Feng Yi Men, both their roles are dead.

Then Bing Wen ( Feng Yi Men and Liu Que Nan's secret son), later became Feng Cheng Ming, but in actual is Feng Zhi vs (sons of Song Ming Shan) - Song Cheng Ming - dead, his wife Chen Xing Hua - dead, Song Cheng Shun - unknown, his wife - unknown too, Song Cheng Min - became one of the minister for the new Republican government.

Liu Que Nan (old women Liu or the villagers called her grandmother Liu) and her son Feng Zhi too are dead, been poisoned by Zhen Jie Wu.

Feng Wan Hai - dead, forced by his twin brother Feng Wan Jiang to replaced him during the Feng family was send for beheaded, when Feng Wan Jiang's son Feng Yi Men joined the rebellion association and the authorities found out, sentenced the entire Feng family members to be beheaded.

Feng Wan Jiang - dead, dropped from the cliff.

Tan Bo Dun - terminated.
Da Pan - terminated.
Ba Fang Tu - demoted.
He Chun Ting - gone missing.

The only few characters might possible to be continue to season 2 are :
Luo Jia Zheng, must be secretly held as prisoner by Zhen Jie Wu, but survive.

Zhen Jie Wu revealed he is the eldest son of Song Ming Shan and a maiden Guan, so he is the secret first son of Song family - Song Cheng Tai.

And police commander Ba Fang Tu had mentioned, the biggest assets of Song family - the railway investment had been terminated by the authorities, only left a few other assets such as the cloth dye, medicine shop, winery, pawnshop and the old residence of Song.

So, if Song Cheng Shun and his wife, the sister of Chen Xing Hua and her husband, assuming they are the only few of Song family members that are still alive with this little assets left over, I guess there's nothing much to fight for.

As for the "baddie" character left is, Zhen Jie Wu also known as Song Cheng Tai.

Last he had mentioned to Bo Dun that, he will claim back what was suppose his share - the remaining of Song family's assets.

And also kinda threat Bo Dun to help him murder the remaining of Song family members, if he wants to save Luo Jia Zheng.

But Luo Jia Zheng's father (Luo Yu Ding) is no ordinary man, he is the president of the secret commission - "Tian Meng Association".

If based on the above's few highlighted points to continue for season 2, I think there won't be much more interesting storyline to further on. Perhaps it may looks something like "New Shanghai Bund" type of storyline.

Coz everyone at the village - Fu Yuan county are almost played out their roles.

And now, Da Pan, Xiao Shi Zi, Song Cheng Min, Chu Jiu, Ba Fang Tu, Luo Yu Ding all are at the city.

Except Bo Dun, Zhen Jie Wu / Song Cheng Tai, and Luo Jia Zheng are still left at the village / Fu Yuan county.

So, to what I see, by these few remaining characters, is kinda hard to continue for season 2's storyline. And if were to be continue, I guess it most probably won't be as interesting as this season 1's storyline or either gonna be boring.

And this drama isn't the first that only produced season 1 and had stopped for continuing for season 2.

Remember couple of years back (2017), "Princess Agent" was also one of a greatest hit drama.

At the final part, when both Yu Wen Yue and Xing Er / Chu Qiao dropped into the icy lake after Yu Wen Yue was shot by Yan Xun and injured, Chu Qiao wanted to save him, but he pushed her away meaning hopefully she continues to live on without him. At the final moment, because of the icy cold lake water, it reveals the inner strength hidden inside Chu Qiao's body and her back, the invisible flower reveals. That's it, no more, no further season 2. Isn't that drama was more frustrating than this ? It just left audience to guess.

Another drama also the same, "Goodbye My Princess"- 2019.
Same as "Chong Ming Wei" - 2018. All the same, only season 1 and no further complete the whole story by season 2.

I was shocked by each episodes as it gets further, nearer and nearer to the real truth until to the very last minute of the whole drama.

1)Feng Yi Men and Song Ming Shan was fighting for the same women - Liu Que Nan (the old women that pretends to have the supernatural abilities to rise the dead, and the villagers called her "grandmother Liu")

2)Feng Wan Jiang too had a twin brother - Feng Wan Hai.

3)Feng Wan Jiang murdered his twin brother Feng Wan Hai to start the string of scammings, making the villagers believed the abilities of rising the dead.

4)Feng Yi Men is a psychopathic with a string of terrible revenging plans. I can't believe at that part comes to know that, the real Song Ming Shan and his wife long ago was been murdered by Feng Yi Men. And Feng Yi Men for the sake of revenge, did such a horrible and crazy thing of burning his face, pretending he is the survived Song Ming Shan by the night the fire broke out at the Song family's residence, and killed Song Ming Shan's wife and also killed the real Song Ming Shan. And the sons of Song Ming Shan didn't even know this dark and yet terrible truth for all these years, thought that Feng Yi Men was their real father Song Ming Shan. OMG !

5)And as everyone thought that the idiot servant boy Bing Wen, was just a poor idiot orphan boy and had been kindly brought into the Song's residence as a servant. And because everyone thought that he is an idiot, he just like playing with his binoculars. In reality, OMG ! He was just patiently pretending to be an idiot for 10 years and had been monitoring everyone in the Song family, secretly knowing each one of them their secrets, mimic their behaviors and writing styles, and learned their secrets by reading lips speaking techniques. This is quite terrible and insane.

6)As for Liu Que Nan, (old women Liu), everyone thought that she is an old insane women and had a miscarriage some 20 years ago. Even I also didn't had thought that she didn't had a miscarriage, and succeeded gave birth a son of Feng Yi Men. And the boy is Bing Wen by a fake name, pretends to be an idiot boy servant at Song's residence. Later after the murdering of the eldest son Song Cheng Feng and his wife Chen Xing Hua, old man Feng Yi Men (fake Song Ming Shan) reuse the scamming technique of "rising the dead" again performed by his secret wife the old women Liu (Liu Que Nan) to revived his dead son Song Cheng Feng by using Bing Wen's physical body to replace. And Bing Wen is one step closer to the "fastened up revenge plan" and became Song Cheng Feng. By doing so, he then became the eldest heir to inherit the Song family's assets against the second son - Song Cheng Shun and youngest son - Song Cheng Min.

7)I didn't expect old man Feng Yi Men (fake Song Ming Shan) to had chose suicide by consuming poison to fasten up his plans of revenge and accused his death to the rest of the Song family members - Song Cheng Shun, his wife, Song Cheng Min, and Chen Xing Hua's sister and her husband, in ordered to had them execute as "wiping away" of them to inherit the assets of Song family, and all the assets will legally goes to Bing Wen, then became Song Cheng Ming. In actual, he is Feng Yi Men and Liu Que Nan's secret son
- Feng Zhi.
OMG !! What such a wicked twicked plan of revenge.

I think this part is way too much of Feng Yi Men, he already had avenged Song Ming Shan, and his son Song Cheng Ming, and had pretended to be Song Ming Shan for so many years and enjoyed their wealth. It was way too much wicked in him to plan for murdering all the others remaining Song family members.

8)The champion of fake identity character goes to Fu Yuan county detective -Zhen Jie Wu.
This, I am 100 percent didn't expect his real identity is, he is the actual real first son of Song Ming Shan - Song Cheng Tai, the son by a maiden Guan, the first women Song Ming Shan made pregnant before he married his wife madam Zhao. Means in actual, he should be the eldest son / heir of Song family, eldest brother to Song Cheng Ming, Song Cheng Shun and Song Cheng Min.
My Goodness Me !! Never had expected all these. Wow !! What a string of scamming and wicked revenge plans.

Interesting ! Many characters in this drama, had unexpected and secret identity behind the whole string of the scamming plans.
I thought I could guess it a few characters and incident's reason correct, but at the final few episodes, it totally caught me cold with absolute surprised ...

And the best compliments of acting I must say, is not given to the good characters like Tan Bo Dun, Luo Jia Zheng or Da Pan.

I too was been "cheated" by the acting of Bing Wen / Feng Zhi, Zhen Jie Wu / Song Cheng Tai, Liu Que Nan (old lady Liu), Song Ming Shan, Feng Yi Men, Feng Wan Jiang, Feng Wan Hai ...

These people, trace back to the source of tragedy, it was about jealousy and vengeance between two families - the Song family and the Feng family. Since their parents' era, the hatreds had been formed.

Maybe don't watch it through online. Get a DVD box set.
That's how I'd watched and completed the whole season 1 here.
The film's production has no problem, all clear and with several languages (sub titles) to translate. (Spanish, French, Arabic, Korean, English & Mandarin sub titles)

I don't like the ending. There are a few characters didn't show what happened to them.

Did Chen Shao Xun recover ? And what about Kong Chen ?

What about Wang Mian ? Did he got the punishment from the court ?

And where did the emperor send Shen LiGe to for 3 years ? After 3 years, Peng Cheng Wang / Liu YiKang meet Shen LiGe at that small cottage house, is Shen LiGe still remains her title as Consort Li / Li Fei ?

All these seems unclear, the ending is like in a rush to conclude the whole drama.
