To be honest, I think the series started out great, but the closer I got to the end, the less interested I became.…
First off, why shouldn't the English man be portrayed in a very positive light? Maybe you need to understand 3 things.
1) FACT: In the mid 1500s PORTUGUESE came with their "Black Ships" to trade & brought CATHOLICS to convert Japanese to Christianity. This is AFTER England removed itself from Rome and established the Church of ENGLAND, a Protestant religion. There is NO historical account of English trying to "COLONIZE" Japan during this Era.
2) This is based on a NOVEL by the same title: SHOGUN. This version differs from the novel, in that it is Japanese-centric instead of centered around the main character in the Novel, John Blackthrone, an English pilot on a Dutch vessel that, 'fictionally' discovered the route that the Portuguese took to get to Japan.
3) This is based on historical FACT of the establishment of the 1600s Tokugawa Shogunate in Edo. You can research it.
In 1600, an English sailor, Wm. Adams & a Dutchman, Jan Joosten came to Japan & disclosed to the Japanese about the conflicts between Protestant and Portuguese & Spanish Catholics. The man who would be Shogun took a liking to them and TRUSTED what they told him... It's this information that lead to the Shogun eventually PERSECUTING Christians, then banning Catholicism completely and begin it's ISOLATIONIST FOREIGN POLICY until the Japanese Meiji Era.
So, YEAH, they WOULD portray an ENGLISHMAN in a good light for this drama.
I honestly do not understand this new false historical outlook to justify racism.
Your review is still bad because it based on your own personal wishes and fantasy of how thing life was for women in a harem, forgetting that this is a freaking historical. Empress Xiaoyichun was the mother of the next emperor. Once a woman because a consort of the emperor, she's never leaving the Forbidden City and his harem unless her body is cold & stiff. That's just the facts. Just because you don't approve of how things were historical has nothing to do with the portrayal of it in modern times. What, did you expect they were going to have her marry Fuheng?? Only if it was a Sci-Fi fantasy alternative reality was that EVER going to happen.
Based on what he and she say at the end, I feel like it's the other way around.
The synopsis on the wikipedia says, "...Climax unfolds against the backdrop of South Korea's powerful conglomerates and entertainment industry, following a couple driven by boundless ambition who'll stop at nothing – including betraying each other – to reach the pinnacle of success..."
I've also read synopsis that he marries her as a top female actress for her power but at some point she loses her appeal etc in her age and she accuse him of not wanting her anymore because of it....
There's a "revenge" tagline here, so, I suspect the relationship is complicated on all sides. Maybe they both cheat. lul
Having not read any of the literary material, watching First Frost makes me understand this version of Sang Yan and why he seems so "fatherly" and controlling.
I get now that it's not honestly due to his need to control his sister. If anything, she's often an afterthought and a tool for him. He's cringeworthily devoted to a non-family member. It's having to face his painful past that makes him so upset & angry about where she is and then how her own romantic relationship unfolds.
I find it interesting how this pair of siblings are so devoted to another human yet still maintain their unique vibe of closeness that allows for much distance but ultimate compatibility and synchronicity. To the point that the person they each romantically choose, in some form & fashion, have no other "family" but them.
Korea is looking more and more like China everyday. This is how they control entertainment by using taxes to tear a celebrities' lives apart.
Just like in China, they're just going after folks with money that they can manipulate and extort because they'll cave due to their public image. Government is looking for its money grab and regular citizens who are into the Cancel Culture will just take the govt's word for it, as if the govt itself isn't corrupt.
Look, the way things went down and a CCP loving candidate got put into the Leadership position isn't an accident. What's sad is that Koreans are getting so manipulated that don't see what's happen before their eyes.
Better hope that the Princelings take down Xi after his antics. Otherwise, when Xi because Emperor of China, Korea will go back to be a vassal state doing Beijing's bidding.
Maybe you shouldn't comment on things you know nothing about then? This is very clear case of hit and run.
"hit and run" is SPECIFIC terminology for 2 party accidents....
At MOST this can be called "leave the scene of an accident".
As it stands, the police are telling 🫵to stop spreading rumors and getting everyone up in a riot. The issue was resolved in APRIL 2025, when she corrected the insurance claim and she paid all provincial damages and to anyone affect by it.
God forbid you try not to kill an animal then go quickly to protect your face, the very thing you make a living on... WOW... to those who find ANYTHING wrong with the way this was handled when the police don't.
WHO SUFFERED? 🫵 Get over yourself and look for a life of your own.
Mo Qing Cheng is a sucessful fan. Search ShengShengMan left and right after met he increase his Idol favorability…
Yes, Xiao Nai was a one of my fav green flags. I'd say Yu Tu was also a green flag as well but most would likely disagree because he turned the love of his life too many times. But, he gave so much without her even knowing and that was green enough for me.
I would agree with Lin Yi Yang most especially. Then Duan Jia Xu, Mo Qing Cheng, Kim Young Ho and Ryu Seon Jae. Yeah... the ultimate recent green flags I've watched. So much so that I think I've watched those shows multiple times. Especially Hidden Love & Amidst a Snowstorm of Love.
It's not about casting a person who has an ancestry in the war. It's about him not being sensitive to war crimes…
Not like Japan was practically annihilated by nuclear bombs and innocent humans melted into nothing with their generations ravished with cancer and other ailments even to this day.
Other nationalities were not the only victims during the war.
This was a Japanese broadcast for Japanese and they have a right to their own personal sentiments. He doesn't owe anyone anything, and those who committed war crimes were punished. Why not take a moment and watch Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence for your holiday pleasure!! Then remember that even in the EARLY 80s folks could look at things through the lens of a kaleidoscope and have the thoughtfulness of looking past their one tracked mind attitude and realize that MANY people where badly effected by what happened.
Maybe take a moment to look inside the lives of others and stop only looking at things from one perspective.
I'm an Operations Admin for an AMERICAN company involved in protecting the ally homefront and innocent people who may be harmed by those who would attack it. My company recently did joint military preparedness tactics with both the German and Japanese Air Force. We helped Germany make history during these operations and our company was widely praised by both nations in our joint help.
Then look to the past and remember that RUSSIA was our ALLY during this ERA of the war. NOW look at where we are at!!!
Things have CHANGED a lot since the era these individuals want to complain about. Come into the 21st Century. We're coming up on a HUNDRED YEARS since these things happened. Sensibilities are much different. Being offended by every little thing you believe difficult from the past is stupid.
FYI, you can look it up, but he had multiple allegations for various things. I'm not going to address them here because I'm not about the gossip. But these occurred in 2019-2020 and he's been boycotted and backlisted over it. After the all the tax evasion and Zheng Shuang's surrogacy drama, the CCP installed harder guidelines about public behavior of celebs. That's why so many actors of that timeframe that got caught up in various accusations started to not get jobs.
This is why he was replaced as the lead in "The Long Ballad" (2021) by Lei Wu. We likely won't see much of him going forward.
While firmly condemning Jo Jin Wong's past criminal activities, one thing comes to mind: Did we really have to…
There is a South Korean law the forbides anyone from KNOWING this information! The issue isn't anything more than, who violated the JUVINILE ACT and why? And why aren't those who did fired, smeared and shunned like they have done to others by violating their personal privacy.
If you have done your time and paid the price as a juvenile, there is a reason for your records to be SEALED. It's this very thing... otherwise, any youth who commits a crime is being sentenced to death because they have no SOCIAL recovery in a nation like this!
Anyone wonder why South Korea is ranked #1 of all industrialized nations for suicide of its population???
If we were to analyze how many artists have taken their own lives because of so-called "news", I wonder…
Your statement "...is there any point in straightening out your life..." is what every South Korean, not JUST famous Koreans, say to themselves everyday. That's why they have to put plexiglass walls up in front of all their subways, have phones and sweet encouraging messages on bridges, and 12 foot chainlink fences on top of roofs. Everyday a South Korean thinks this very thing -- then comes to the decision that life is not worth living because of the callous way Koreans treat humans who are not 100% perfect in everything they say and do in their life from infancy. Of course, every other culture knows that humans are fallible.
Final analysis: This is why South Korea will ALWAYS be ranked #1 worldwide for the highest suicide rate of an industrialized nation. This rank will NEVER change because their culture doesn't have it in them to change it.
Good luck to South Koreans in the coming decades as their child birth rate declines past what is needed to sustain their economy as they kill off those successfully born. It's well reported that a need for up to 890,000+ additional workers by 2032 and projections indicating that increasing the foreign workforce to 15% of total workers could be necessary over the next few decades to prevent income and growth declines. Maybe when they import of other nationalities and cultures due to the necessity of their own culture's death cult, it will change the trajectory of public opinion for the better. Until then, South Korea is a dying nation where those very haters are sentencing themselves to poverty and despair along with every suicide they generate.

🫵
Get over yourself and look for a life of your own.
Folks just wanna throw rocks at others.... looking to find reasons.
The insurance claim was corrected in APRIL 2025!
She did need to be exposed to correct the issue.
STFU.
Accidents fucking happening.
It was her face... the thing she uses to earn a living.
Folks need to go out and get some hobby and find something better to do with their time.
