The real question is: Is there ANYTHING that Koreans aren't offended or pissed off about that they won't complain? It seems to be a national hobby.... complaining about every little damn thing and making folks get on their knees and beg for forgiveness.
Anyone wonder why South Korea is the number 1 nation for suicide rates? I think not.
Dang. It's almost 2025 and this is finally coming out. He got this gig before Covid and that halted everything. Cannot believe it took 5 years to come out of that nightmare. We're finally back though, and it feels good.
Hmm I'm wondering why certain commenters get pissed when others respond to their comments in kind when they started…
I want to reiterate something. I'm not suggesting that those who aren't enjoying the drama shouldn't post and express those thoughts. I'm saying that attacking others posts who enjoy it and insulting just to be mean time after time ad infinitum aren't warranted. If you're not enjoying things, there's no need to drag down those who are. Vice versa as well, those who are enjoying it shouldn't be attacking random opinions of those who are harmlessly sharing that opinion.
Hmm I'm wondering why certain commenters get pissed when others respond to their comments in kind when they started by writing to others to insult their views and the drama.
It's pretty obvious they're just here to cause trouble and drama on this page. For someone who thinks so little of the drama, to the point they make ultra insulting comments, including personal insults towards the actors looks etc, I wonder why it is they seem to bother watching 14 episodes. They spend so much daily time and energy watching something they say they're absolutely hating watching and come over here to trash it and everyone who is enjoying it on their own. The most sane thing to do is to drop it and move on. So you have to ask yourself, why do they not? Why do they continue to post mean remarks everyday?
I have to assume they're pissed that the ratings have been going up, eh? I have to assume they are some anti-fan stalkers etc. It's kind of pathetic actually. I'm sad so many engage in the comments section with these antics.
To those of you who aren't anti-fans and sane, I personally suggest you don't bother with these types of people. They will just make your blood boil and diminish your enjoyment of the drama. Rather, the ideal thing to do is to just pass over ad hominem comments like these and ignore them. Don't respond whatsoever. They're here looking for attention. The best thing to deal with them is to let them talk to themselves alone. It's simply a waste of everyone's time otherwise.
i have questions...is ML too much of a simp? is ML rich while FL is poor?any cheesy or cringe dialogue?is FL childish/naive?do…
@Cherrymotion pretty much answered as I would have with slight changes:
1. I wouldn't say either were simps. It was a normal, natural, and organic development of a relationship over time. He was attentive to her because he was interested in her at first meeting but not overly so. In fact, his attention went unnoticed by her at the begin because he was subtle about his pursuit/interest of/in her. He just waited for her to show interest by hanging out & getting to know him over time... like most normal relationships develop.
2. There's a lot to this. I guess at first episode you'll see her as more wealthy family established, BUT the wealth aspect is relative and more based on the plots theme of billiards verses some power dynamics over money.
3. This is not a cheesy or cringe drama. This is a realistic development with a lot of other characters beside the couple. The main focus is definitely the couple amidst the backdrop of billiards but the supporting characters really fill out the story and it's not done in a cheesy way.
4. FL maybe considered naive by starting off in a foreign land not knowing too much about culture or where to live, eat, etc. But she's the guardian of another character taking them to this foreign land so, obviously, adults believe she's responsible. Anymore is a spoiler.
5. Not falling in love too fast. He's attracted to her and wants to date her from the start, but the process of the romance happens over time like any natural progression of a relationships IRL>
6. This is subjective. It is focused mainly on their romance. That's the entire aspect of this story. HOWEVER, it's about billiards and they play in "teams" so there are MANY supporting characters that are included in this story, both foreign and Chinese. There is a story behind both the male and female leads and their backgrounds intercross each other, ironically, although they don't meet in China but a foreign country... and that's probably the reason why this drama really captivated me. It had many levels to it and the development of the supporting characters amongst themselves was beautifully written.
.,...btw, I don't usually scroll the comments. I actually came here because I originally watched this drama on Viki... but just saw it got posted on NetFlix. It was so good, I thought, I think I'm going to rewatch this drama on NetFlix today... This drama was a 8/10 for me... and newer dramas haven't captivated me too much lately that rewatching feels better than starting something new... and also, I'm not a fanatic of any of the actors in this drama. I just enjoyed the plot and acting.
No. I'm very clear on Asian culture and drug laws. I think you sound ignorant af.Look up on Wikipedia "Burning…
I'm not emotional at all. You seem to be the one who is emotional.
I'm just pointing out the travesty of sentencing guidelines in South Korea. In the USA, unless you're caught in possesion, you cannot be charged for intoxication of illegal drugs but for max 6 months if done in public and caused a nuisance. Hell, if you got caught 3 times doing that in a year you'd get 90 days.. But we're not even talking about that. We're talking about things he did in other countries where pot is legal. We're talking about him being arrested for it the minute his plane lands in Itaewon. He wasn't even in South Korea causing harm to South Koreans. No cop in the USA could pull hair and test it for drugs to charge someone for past use... but they do it in South Korea. I'm not emotional. I'm just stating that the laws in South Korea regarding the use of drugs is over-the-top. Not even other Asian countries demand their citizens toe the line while away in a foreign land. It's up to those countries to prosecute him for disobeying their laws, if any.
I'm pointing out the further out-of-line sentencing structure on ACTUAL physical harm inflicting felons and fraud that goes against the public's funds.
In the US, Wesley Snipes got a 3 year sentence for tax evasion alone, not including 13 other felonious fraud and prostitution charges. He appealed it and was denied and served that enter amount of time.
5 years for multiple women drugged, kidnaped, raped, filmed, and that distributed? Are you freaking kidding me??? In CA, it would be a mandatory minimum of 3 years for EACH case, and tacked on revenge porn time. Additionally, the victims would be allowed to take them to civil court and sue the shit out of them for it all as well.
Kang Ji Hwan on December 5, 2019, found guilty of raping 1 woman and molesting another and sentenced to two years and six months imprisonment, suspended for three years of probation, by the Suwon District Court. Meaning, he didn't serve a day in jail.
"..A 86-year-old Korean theater actor by the name of Sun, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old female student when he was a professor at an art university earlier in April..." She was extremely traumatized by the incident and is in intensive therapy. Authorities say that it was obvious it had been going on for years and saddened that the no one has come forward before this.... but the women are the ones who get stigmatized if they do, so they don't and these men get away with it. But he will only be serving 3 years in jail.
Here's another great headline to elucidate my point: 'Heart Signal' Kang Sung Wook's sentence commuted to 2 and a half years for sexual assault, family curses and makes a scene"
Another one: "Oh Dal Soo Returning To Acting Following Controversy + Police Explains Why Investigation Ended" He didn't even get jail time, because the statute of limitations expired. So he not only gets away with the crime, but gets to start his career over again.
Another one: "Court Rules Against Woman Who Accused Jo Jae Hyun Of Sexual Assault In Damages Lawsuit" Another case of statute of limitations being applied. BTW, she was 17 years old when he assaulted her. In my country, you do that to an underaged person, there is NO statute of limitations.
As for the Burning Sun guys:
Jung Joon-young, who served only 5 years of his original 6 year sentence for GANG raping and filming multiple women and Choi Jong-hoon only got 2 and a half years for the same thing merely because he paid off one of the women.
I could go on with more, but this is getting tiring.
I also couldn't help but notice the correlation between the entertainment industry's first gay scandal/rumor and…
Now that a man has come forward recently to accuse Yoo Ah In of sexually assaulting him, where the rape kit came back negative, so likely a lie, it feels obvious to me that the powers that be are going after him due to his popularity coupled with his sexual orientation.
Not ridiculous. He was in possession of drugs and that's illegal in Korea. He can get help in prison.
It is ridiculous. 1. He was never caught in possession of drugs. What they found out was that he had been administered drugs by legal doctors.
2. The "illegal drugs" were NEVER taken while he was in South Korea. He did it in other countries. The nations he went to also have legalized marijuana.
3. They grabbed him when he retuned to South Korea and tested his hair and blood at that time. Meaning, whatever was in his system wasn't done in country.
There is one huge aspect of Korean law that's utterly ridiculous. That you have to follow the laws of South Korea, not only in South Korea, but in other nations where the laws are different. Feels more like the laws in communist China than a democracy. As an American, my nation couldn't charge me with a crime like this, I committed somewhere else, ever. Hell, if a South Korean goes to Las Vegas, they're not allowed to gamble there whatsoever because that goes against South Korean laws against gambling. It's like having Big Brother watching over you. Anyone tattles on you, you get arrested for it at the airport as your welcoming committee.
Did he do it in countries where it is LEGAL? Did he do it with a doctor present? Did he do it in the privacy of his own home? Interesting take.
You ARE hurting my home because your poop obviously as garlic smelling & phosphorous levels of toxic as your mouth and would destroy my garden not help it. You don't get to choose what you can or cannot put in my garden. Your dog can't shit there either. There's a huge difference in what you think is and isn't harmless.
Stringent punishments for drug use is not unique to South Korea. It's prevalent all throughout Asia (in China,…
No. I'm very clear on Asian culture and drug laws. I think you sound ignorant af.
Look up on Wikipedia "Burning Sun Scandal". Then ask yourself how celebrities who drugged, r@ped, filmed, & distributed the footage to others were helped by cops to cover this up. Then when women came forward, the justice system gave guys like Seungri 3 years for facilitating all this illegal activity within his club, but later it was reduced to only 18 months. I don't remember 1 judge calling what these guys did "reprehensible". Not one time. But they said that Yoo Ah In taking drugs on his own is "reprehensible" and they want to give him 4 years for it. ....I don't think YOU know what you're talking about......
The other person they are prosecuting in this case is suspected to be his gay lover, and best friend. I have a sick feeling about why the justice system want to throw the book at them with the knowledge that if he becomes a convicted felon, he'll never have an acting career again in South Korea.
I don't remember the justice system calling those involved in the Burning Sun Scandal "reprehensible". I'm trying to rack my brain as to why they refer to acts that only serve to hurt Yoo Ah In himself and no one else personally, as "reprehensible". But acts that literally destroyed the lives of various women were covered up by cops and allowed to go on for years, until a few suicides and actions put the spotlight on South Korea by foreigners who started to ask questions, followed by the #MeTo movement. It simply baffles the mind at what South Korean justice finds horrible and what they're okay with... especially when they ended up giving substantially reduced sentences to these gentlemen. Hell, Seungri was given THREE years for his involvement, and it was later reduced to 18 months. But they want FOUR years for Yoo Ah In???? What a freaking joke.
Reading some of the comments talking about Asian's view on being a burden to your family & loved ones is just so disheartening, pathetic, and sad. Yeah, understood it's a cultural thing but it's almost like a society that enjoys degrading those considered beneath them, bullying those who cannot defend themselves, and mass self flagellation.
Forget terminal illnesses. How about something like paralysis? Better have money to pay for help. Then no love life or emotional caring for you for the rest of your life. It's like a double whammy of being mortally injured. Why suffer like that for years alone? Hah! Then no one is confused why some of the highest suicide rates are in these countries. So many valid human beings are told they're wasted trash that burdens those who are supposed to care for them the most.
Then here is the REAL kicker. Rather than jumping off a building or a bridge, or in front of a train, or hanging yourself in a closet, why not take the easy, dignified way out with assisted suicide??? Naw... even if you made arrangement to do it in Switzerland or the like, if anyone besides you who are dying helps, they'll be punished by the law upon returning back to their homeland. What an utter smack in the face. Go kill yourself like a dog on the street, but don't ever show any humanity for those perceived as burdens to society. What a depressing societal cultural aspect of life that would be for anyone.
I loved VM too as Sang Yan - I am rewatching HL now - almost done and he really took that role and was good in…
Same as to rewatching. I just finished rewatching and that's why I posted this comment. I realize that if it was just the OTP HL wouldn't have been as great as it was. Tbh, all the actors in HL were so good in their role and held up their part. Sang Yan and Sang Zhi, Jia Xu, and all their roommates. Sang Zhi's roommates. The guys interested in her roommates and her. Her parents. Having her mom Yuan Yi from Love Like the Galaxy here was epic. The dynamic was similar yet much less toxic. Sang Yan's parents were perfect. Sang Yan was dark, black wearing guy who tried to put up a playboy, rebel demeanor...and there were hints of him being a bit of a bad boy...but his teddy bear inside and wonderful family life clouded it all as to make me think that, if that's how the Frost story goes, I couldn't vibe with it. Of course, that's just me... and that's why I said it... Sang Yan's over protectiveness and love for his sister and his commitment and trust in his friendships were everything in HL that pulled it all together... seems simply why having the brother's version would catch the interest at all of the viewers who know nothing about the written work. That's all VM's doing.. had he not molded that "dark & brooding" character into something we liked, no one would have an interest in his story except for Cnetz who read the story in the 1st place and want to see it on the screen. At least, that's how I perceive it from someone who loved HL and knew nothing of the original context whatsoever. ;)
Sang Yan Hidden Love is how he is seen by his Sister (Sang Zhi), on the other hand Sang Yan The First Frost is…
Yes, Cnetz have a very specific taste in what they watch, along with being very opinionated. There's no respect given when I'm being told that everyone else agrees with your view, and who is or isn't suitable based on everyone's view but my own.
I'm not Chinese so I'm not reading the source material. I'm going by what I've already watched, and there are quite a few international fans that seem to feel the same as me... so I don't feel like I'm alone in my thinking, despite what you say.
Of course, Sang Yan's lover has a very unique view of him... as angsty, humorless, goth wearing, stone-face, as you put it... From HL I can really see [sarcasm] how she could come to this conclusion....coming from a well-off family by Chinese standards, with a loving family, a great sibling relationship, and caring friends. All, I guess by Chines standards, reasons to be dark and stoic. ....again, I'll take a pass on that version of Sang Yan.
Anyone wonder why South Korea is the number 1 nation for suicide rates? I think not.
