Jiang Cheng Jealousy Hits So Many Levels

I think it's at these moments when Jiang Cheng acts just like the elders of all the clans; wanting to put up pretenses; never doing more than the bare minimum for others; & only truly sacrificing anything merely in order to seek vainglory based on only a namesake, that always irked me.I get how Wuxian loves him, since he is truly family to him in that way which says, "...you cannot pick your siblings..." but it's the times during this episode that I feel Jiang Cheng never really deserved him and his loyalty.

Xiao Xingchen

Now, in this episode, bumping into Xiao Xingchen, who is looking to bring evil to justice is added to Wangji's awaremess. Wangji instantly can see much of himself in Xiao Xingchen's character and gentleman's manners. Then they learn he's given up ambition to seek justice in the mortal world. Finding out that he is also mentored by Baoshan Sanren must have been a mighty revelation to Wangji. Furthermore, it just adds to it for Wangji to know Xiao Xingchen is Wuxian's uncle through being Cangse Sanren's brother.

༼ ༎ຶ ෴ ༎ຶ༽ Wangxian ༼ ༎ຶ ෴ ༎ຶ༽

Watching Wangji take care of Wuxian as he turns dark is so amazing. He saw it happened and thus sings, ‘our connection and time together remains pure‘.Wuxian without 隨便[Suíbiàn], the epitome of his self, now has unrestrained given to him by Wangji himself. Let’s not forget that the most powerful in Lan clan uses a flute to wield power! It isn’t lost on me that I noted that Lan Yi was the beginning of Wangji’s understanding of Wuxian, only to have her very words be the things he faces with Wuxian afterward. Wangji himself, before even Wuxian is clearheaded on it, is the one who professes it! Talking and giving unrestrained to Wuxian was Wangji dropping all pretenses that he’d ever be able to leave his side.

Unfulfilling Ending

I did enjoy the lead actors. They did what best they could do with a horribly troubling script/plot.

Query me this: How can her father not exist simply because he is no longer required in the webtoon but Kang Chul can exist now outside of it even though he's just a cartoon character? Why does her father have to not exist in the real world? If he doesn't exist in the real world than she cannot exist either. He has to exist in one of the two places for any of this to be plausible... far worse than that is the idea that her father was somehow sacrificing himself. NO, he wasn't. He was just doing what he has done the entire drama, be a self-loathing, pathetic, weak human being who loves to wallow in his on depression of uselessness. He just finally gets the courage to do what he has wanted to do from the beginning: kill himself.

Although our main couple end up together, he was perfectly unsatisfying, because, to be honest, there was really no other plausible direction for the writer to take. No one would have been okay with a weak father like her's survive while Kang Chul ends. They storm MBC and burn down the building. ...I just think there was a solution just as legitimate that would have let everyone survive... but for some reason this writer enjoys the dreariness of melo.... It's really too bad, because this could have been so much more than this flat, uninspiring troupe that was laid out before us.

Jumping the Shark

Okay, the only thing confirmed by this episode is the Yeon Joo's dad is a complete and utter waste of a human body. He stole his daughter's idea, then warped it into some thing to revert to when beating himself up is not enough, he can beat up on Kang Chul and make him worthless along with him... and now is alter ego has warped as well, and turned this in to a horror drama instead of a mere melo.... *smh*

It's all about the KISS....

Okay, cute way to officially jump start their romance. He's friends with her first. Likes her for her brains and spunk. That moves on to officially deciding he doesn't care anything about her background, including her gender in order to pursue a love with her. Thus, the have solidified a true and pure love... heck he's even mad at her for going to gisaeng house made him mad and he just spends his time alone in the flower garden reading. ;)

...and about that kiss... Yes... I'm gonna say it. It looked a bit awkward. It looked the way you'd expect it to look if an older cousin kissed his younger cousin out of curiosity. There was determination, and that moment you "brace yourself" because you know it's incoming... but once you get a feel for it, you kind of settle down. I suspect they had to do it more than once for the angles... and it was apparent... Some angles looked more, shall I say, "relaxed" than others.... So this gets me interested how it came to the censors being upset that they were being "indecent". It couldn't possibly be just merely her age being 17 and the age difference, which is 6 years since he's 23, I think. That would just be awkward. You'd know not to watch any love story dramas with girls in it younger than 18 if you like your couples to at least kiss at some point in the drama. ...but I digress... because, in the end, I'm thinking of Bo Gum's interview where he says they were timid with each other in the beginning, because even though there's an age gap and he's older, she's actually his Sunbae and he had to differ to that seniority she has, and rightly so, she deserves that kind of respect. I found it amazing that she took the initiative, because of his shyness with her, to approach him and script read with him and eat her meals with him in order to develop a closer bond. Kudos to her to know how to get to the heart of the matter. But, in the end, they both said it brought them closer together but in a sort of brotherly/sisterly kind of vibe. It can't be comfortable to KISS your "brother", even though it's acting, like that for the first time. So, yeah, it kind of shows that they slowly warmed up to each other.... which is absolutely brilliant on Yoo Jung's part, because it makes the progression of their relationship just feel so plausible and real. Good job guys on your acting. Yoo Jung is just an all out pro. I have so much respect for her!

*sigh* 2nd lead, go away....

I really get annoyed with the on going push of the triangle. Cockblocking push ass second leads who use someone's kindness to get what they want are irritating. I hope this doesn't go on for another 2 or 3 more episodes. The repetition of "ALMOST" getting found out and the 2nd lead covering gets tired and boring.

Besides, there are so many things that are compatible emotionally with the CP and Ra On that makes them interesting to watch together, not just their cutesy act. They have some scars that would make them understand each other well. But what does Yoon Sung have with Ra On except that he insinuates himself into her life and the ONLY reason he does it is that she's a female, and intriguing and not like all the other girls who fall all over him... she's not interested in him or being girlie or beautiful for him. He has the classic case of wanting something he cannot have... and once he's done playing, what's he gonna do??? It's not a true friendship like she has with Lee Young.

Drunk Wangji

Wangji's face when he says he likes rabbits. So happy. lol.Giving Wuxian the two roosters? Does he know saying yes means he has to keep his commitment? Everything is starting to unfold bit by bit. But it's sad to know, after 16 years, that no one other than Wangji is able to see clearly and try to put any of the pieces together. Everything is falling apart around them and they just see the superficial, and never try to dig any deeper!

Hypocrites All!

A few flowery words, a few shots to the ego, few words to sow doubt, and weak minded pathetic people show their cruel side. The ones who are the worst are the ones who flip instantly.I'm waiting for Wangji to question everything and (┛ಸ_ಸ)┛彡┻━┻

I Mad & You Can't Stop Me From Being Mad!

[Note: This is the episode where I start getting truly mad, and I don't hold back that fact. I don't care what *beloved* character it is. I'll still say my piece!]Wangji: "Isn't what he said right?"Meng Yao: "Yes, it is. Just because it's right, doesn't mean he can say that to everyone's face."**And this here lies the problem with all you elite fuckers now doesn't it?**Seeing Jiang Cheng resembling someone suffering from constipation on his face for 3 episodes speaks volumes. It's an agreement with Meng Yao, not Wangji! Know why Jiang Cheng's dad treated him the way he did? THIS is why!!As an adult, if Jiang Cheng had seen Wuxian, as a child, on the streets, he'd have walked on by, or maybe even called guards to take him away for stealing food scraps. He'd NEVER help someone as uncouth or unclean as the child Wuxian was when JC's dad took him in, even WITH knowing his background! How do I know? HERE IN THIS EPISODE! Even if Jiang Cheng doesn't know the ENTIRE story of what went down, he is still well aware of the care and nurturing that Wen Qing & Wen Ning gave him and his family! They would NOT be alive if it was not for them. THIS HE KNOWS! Sitting back on pretense so as not to have OTHER CLANS talk ill about you behind your back, like the evil gossipers they are, and allow your saviors to be KILLED is their REWARD from JC.Multiple times JC tells Wuxian NOT to CARE ABOUT OTHERS, just his immediate family and keeping JC leader and fulfilling JC'S ambitions for HIS clan!! Talk about arrogant!! No matter how much LOVE is between the 3 siblings, these aspects, from the first time I watched, to now, are things I can NEVER forgive Jiang Cheng for at all. It pisses me off even more the 2nd time around! WHERE IS HIS LOYALTY!?! !!!One that says, yes, innocent people should suffer because we don't want to hurt the feelings of someone superior if we tell them that's evil and they're full of shit acting like a dominant force over everyone and pretending it's somehow PURE and untainted because they're the ones doing it is simply, EVIL regardless!!People who standby and allow wrongdoing to go undeterred or unpunished are guilty of complicity, pure and simple. On this, Wuxian has the highground, and ALWAYS will have the highground!Wangji: "Where are you going?"Wuxian: "I have no idea, but the world is wide. There must be a place for us."Wangji: "You need to think again. If you go, it will be considered a rebellion against orthodoxy with no way back"Wuxian: "Rebellion against orthodozy? What kind of orthodoxy is that? Lan Zhan, do you still remember the promise we have made together?"That someone like Wangji would say all the words of understanding that Wuxian really isn't doing/saying anything wrong, yet still look at his TEMPERAMENT first, always disappoints me. What would it be like if Wangji hadn't had "love at first sight" with Wuxian? Would he be like a more stoic Xi Chen? Or just like his uncle?I hate that, despite loving him, understanding him, seeing the change, knowing how and why in 2 phases this happened, and appreciating his heart, it STILL takes him forever to get onboard!!! Wangji will still defer to his brother and elder clansmen, even when he knows they are wrong, as well as witnessing firsthand some of the evils they have committed. I mean, it always floors me that he's okay sitting back after seeing women & children killed, which always, in history, reminds us of horrible events in the name of extinguishing "bad" from the world, and saying NOTHING. Not 1 single word. It's up to Wuxian to bring it up, and then Wangji worries about Wuxian's **temperment** and proclivity to EVIL?? PLEASE!! It's so wrong, on so many levels!

Messy Story

This has Jumped the Shark. I'm not into the Sci-Fi angle tag. I missed that part so now I have to drop it here. =/

I really enjoy how realistic the romantic…

I really enjoy how realistic the romantic relationships are in this drama. The fighting, saying mean things you don't mean because of pride, pride keeping you from apologizing, finding a way to break the ice, even the kissing is very realistic.Maybe the only thing lacking is the character development of some supporting characters, namely Se Ra's friends. I think they're needed to move the story forward in some fashion, however, if the writers aren't going to flesh out more about who they are, I'd honestly prefer it if they didn't even take side trips into their present lives. Without much context it just feels like filler and a distraction. However, tbh, this is a *very* small deficiency in the story for me.I'm also happy to find Se Ra to be back closer to her original form conveyed in the earlier episodes.I'm enjoying the dynamics in this drama. Overall, I'm really enjoying this drama!

I'm warming up to the OTP, mainly because…

I'm warming up to the OTP, mainly because the ML is calm and soothing. Deep voice, matter-of-fact mannerisms, nice smile, calm demeanor, casual approach to matters that should actually piss him off, forgives very easily, these are all fantastic attributes for a ML, and whatever tsundere behavior he started off with dropped away almost immediately. The FL is the typical dense, oblivious female depicted in C-Dramas who is way too invested in her dormmates, but she's not entirely devoid of good qualities. It's just they aren't promoted as much as her flaws. On the other hand, frankly, I have absolutely 100% NO INTEREST in the 3 friends/dormmates of the FL. I'm not interested in their backgrounds, their stories, or their problems. None of these females are depicted as very likeable people. I don't mind the interactions with the FL, to a certain extent, but when the story just focus on each one of these girls INDIVIDUALLY I'm hyper aware of the FFWD button. There stories just aren't compelling/interesting enough to me to bother. Feels like wasted space and watch time, and I'd rather get to the OTP's story, since that is already slow enough as it is...AND...Let's be honest:The only 7-10 minutes of on-screen time the ML gets per episode makes him feel more like a supporting cast member rather than a LEAD. The 3 SUPPORTING actresses have enough screen time it feels like they're mains, when they are not.

It's Okay to Not Be Okay. LOL!

"...Over my dead body..." bwhahahaha... I never loved a comeback as much as this one. That ending though: *swoon*Yeah, yeah, I get it, but get over it! It's cliché. Yeah, I get it. I accept it.I forgive this drama for it though, because it was ALSO much more than the mere clichés. The "mental health healing" that it set out to achieve, this drama delivered it in spades. For that, all is forgiven. Those who couldn't get all the 'fairytales' & enjoy this aspect of the drama, I get that they were likely *triggered* by a lot of it. I was too. If you're still working through stuff, or actually, do not want to face and deal with certain stuff, this whole drama would most likely be a *trigger*. I suspect some would hate that part so much they'd drop it at some point. I get it....AND....I'm OKAY with it!hahahaha.....

Four Stars

The Boy Who Eats Nightmares has appeared:First off, I won't state the obvious about the final scene. Ending it constantly in this manner is getting a bit tired tbh. However, being left with the essence that Gang Tae finally is getting a better "understanding" left me warm. I had a bit of back and forth emotions watching this episode.Gang Tae is truly a frustrating character. I'm also not sure how I feel with the writing where it seems to try to want to pawn you or facepalm you with the, 'why are you thinking this way, it's really THAT way.'The flashback slow revelation reveals, usually better in a suspense/investigation drama doesn't make me feel the "a-ha" vibe, rather the irritation vibe. Feeling mislead about the personalities of the characters feels a bit unfair. There's really no clear reason to do this except to disarm you and question your reality, as it goes on. It's not true gaslighting, but if you're not prepared for it, it could make you feel like you are being so. lol.
