I made it until Ep. 8… the beginning was super intriguing, kinda reminds me of the feeling when I started watching Goblin. I commend the efforts, was a very good idea, good setup and also good premise… BUT…. The development of the plot was….. well, it was always going to be a challenging attempt anyways….
I thought the way the background story was built and the modification from the original classic was clever + creative… however the screenwriters also kinda left out the most important theme/aspect of the original… which is the adventurous journey of the 4 main characters filled with cheeky banters, a pact they formed… they could have easily weaved it in by making them fight against evil… but 8 episodes later and I still see nothing, and it’s starting to become a little…. Confusing….? Annoying….? Lol…. Weird…? It’s easy to deduce that 20 episodes is defo way too long for the direction that they’ve adopted….
By the end of Ep. 8 I was pulled in various directions which don’t quite seem to come together… with randomness starting to creep in… I can relate to why the S.Korean viewership had a weird trend, tapering after peaking…
I swear the emperor and Hua Lui Li’s father are real life doppelgängers…. I really thought they were played by the same actor…. Had to check the cast list.
Same… really can’t. Going to pause this as much as I appreciate that they didn’t go crazy on CGI overboard……
Yea, I have no idea who the ML actor is but….. I can’t… lol. So I can tell that he should be quite a new actor…. For me it wasn’t only that… the entire cast didn’t quite come together… no idea if it’s the chemistry or the plot… I could recognise quite a few of the cast so they are not entirely green…. But there are a lot of very new faces…. (At least to me)….
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 well hope you’d at least go through the 6 episodes! Even if you need to FF 🤣
Same… really can’t. Going to pause this as much as I appreciate that they didn’t go crazy on CGI overboard……
But the way they did the bullying and also how she is in a veryyyyy unfortunate circumstance is kinda…… a bit much honestly…. And there isn’t anything wrong with her per se… so in a way it just feels like they did it for the sake of….. doing it….? Or they are trying to imply that it’s a person’s destiny….? 🤣 and she can rise above all….? I don’t know… feels very off-balance/unnatural.
lol, I watched on but started to FF towards the last 3 eps released today… probably too many dramas with similar tropes/plots…. So I’m just going to pause it for now… coz aside from Ju Jing Yi, I couldn’t really get into any of it.
I'm not really feeling the male lead but I still will try
Same… really can’t.
Going to pause this as much as I appreciate that they didn’t go crazy on CGI overboard… but the whole bullying of FL is also kinda ott…. Not even sure wot I’m watching…. Or why I’m watching it… 🤣 Also, just noticed that the FL and ML has like 3 names kinda thing… feels like a ‘3 lives, 3 worlds’ theme… so just going to wait until the entire thing is fully released before committing….
媽寶 Situation going on….. 🤣 amongst other esp prevalent social issues in Mainland…. I.e social and familial ramifications of one-child policy… Others are common in many Asian countries…… I.e huge aging population, housing for newlyweds, filial piety, tiger mum etc. curious to see how this pans out…. Still kinda neutral towards it…. Coz this wasn’t wot I was expecting with the title…
Wonder if anyone realised one-child policy actually encourages individualism… which are the foundations of Western society…. It kinda goes against a lot of the Chinese values…
Edit: Completed it… kinda different to wot I expected but was surprisingly quite refreshing…. So I loved the fact that they didn’t just focus on ‘parents are basically God and can do no wrong’… they focused on so many other niche themes which are hardly explored in Asian cultures… dropping out of university by choice, will you still stay together if your spouse is unable to conceive, mental health etc etc. In short, it is a thought provoking, life reflection/wisdom imploring kinda drama, not so much for entertainment or leisure… but somehow falls short to tug at viewers’ heartstrings…
The details of surgeries are shot for longer periods, more up-close and also finer. I.e like they show the replacement…
Ah… ok, didn’t notice that. But I did think the new trauma centre has a totally different tone vs the old hospital. Like the combination is kinda strange….I get that it’s new but… the contrast is huge. I thought they used like a different lighting for the two wings.
is it just me or is the cinematography different this season
The details of surgeries are shot for longer periods, more up-close and also finer. I.e like they show the replacement and reconnections of veins from the start to end…. Prior it was mostly just cutting shots, stitching up, major organs replacement etc. Likely related to progress in technology and technical visual effects coz some time has passed.
Didn’t know about Japan being the same… Interesting! But then again if I recall correctly…. Crime rates…
Yeap couldn’t agree more, and that was when the movie Joker was released which I felt was the craziest déjà vu. Coz I remembered watching the movie and walking home and realising the entrance of my home has turned into a rendition of Joker’s movie set.
Yea, this has the ‘Mystery’ tag. Will defo keep a lookout. 🤓🤓🤓
Didn’t know about Japan being the same… Interesting! But then again if I recall correctly…. Crime rates…
Yeap. I’ve met Singaporeans through work and they’ve asked me…. “But why is it that people in HK have sucha big response to the whole National Security Law… do you know in SG we bla bla bla.. “ 🤣 and me nodding my head in accord.
I can accept that bad guys get caught thing coz media (TV, newspapers, books etc) has a significant influence on the public mindset, education, exposure etc. so I get it…. But the way they do it in C-dramas…….. sigh…. Lol, so for example I got conned with Chasing the Undercurrent… and after the whole ending, I actually Google-ed and learnt it was based on a true story/case… 🤦🏻♀️ I was so disappointed with the ending… coz it was so…… in-your-face kinda thing. Hahaha, I was expecting some really crafty ending. Really?? They gave open endings recently? Ah, my bad… I try to avoid them…. Ooooo, I see. I will defo watch a few episodes of this for sure.
Didn’t know about Japan being the same… Interesting! But then again if I recall correctly…. Crime rates…
Ah… I see. Yea, in a way it is a double edged sword, like capital punishment. It kinda works in keeping crime rates low, but it also increases the chances of locking up innocent people… Yeap, I do know about SG… SG also has this thing whereby one can be thrown in jail for 3 yrs with no lawyer from the get go for certain specific crimes.
Yes, Dilraba in these kinda dramas make me wonder on how she’s going to pull it off. I don’t know, really skeptical about crime/police related C-dramas coz there is only one way out… get caught or death in the most blatant manner… I always feel like I’m wasting my time by watching it. 🤣 but this is done from the legal procedural perspective which piques my interest. And this thing has a ‘ Mystery’ genre tag attached. 🤔
From the trailer it looks like this drama focuses on the process of tracking down and arresting cyber-criminals.…
Didn’t know about Japan being the same… Interesting! But then again if I recall correctly…. Crime rates in Japan is one of the lowest. lol, I’m skeptical on how this will turn out. Something new for Dilraba as well… am defo curious!
I think this is the first time I’ve came across a character which truly represents modern feminism, Gu Jia….…
Truly think she was about to forgive him, or at least hold off the divorce until he is released from prison…. But he gave her a divorce for the sake of her….. a truly unselfish act…. I cried in that scene… crying while watching dramas is rare nowadays. 🤣 I actually found their whole marriage plot thing quite typical but also realistic…. Lol, playing PSP in the car, the whole socks thing, eating thing….. I’ve heard of all these things from married colleagues, friends etc before. 🤣🤣🤣 my own cousin became an Uber driver after work to avoid going home… the ML’s affair was quite…. Realistic though slightly cliche.
I think this is the first time I’ve came across a character which truly represents modern feminism, Gu Jia…. I like how she really can let go and holds no grudges…. Not about getting even nor trying to be stronger or as strong as men…. Also loved it whereby she doesn’t use her kid to leverage in a divorce. Was great that she isn’t a pure career/corporate “super woman”…. She’s ambitious, a go getter but she self-reflects (this is super important).
But she is also flawed in a sense whereby I think a lot of modern, educated young women can relate to…. Constantly trying to be perfect… which I think fortunately for her…. She kinda almost is… well at least she is an all-rounder. So it kinda makes her character more realistic yet the ‘ideal female’ standards for a lot of people (so that bit is a kinda dreamy)… I think her friend made a really good point. At the end of the day the husband she chose couldn’t keep up with her, which she failed to realise and was kinda living in her own dream world… but I don’t think she chose wrongly…. Neither did he…. In the last episode I was happy for her that the man she chose was a good man… who made a mistake….
Please someone tell me Liu Tao's character ends up with JinDong's character???!!!
So many people are hoping for this…. Sighs… I think the author might have avoided it because it’s kinda half cliched/trope-ey… but Lao Tan confessed that he fancies her though, and 10 yrs to protect and stay with someone is already considered love….
Wow, well it has some tropes but this is so realistic in terms of the whole working background/setup… I want to be Andy at 31 yrs old too! 🤣🤣🤣 Lol, I loved the whole 2nd generation ‘chaebol’ thing threw in the mix, she is SUPER funny, eccentric and ‘evil’. The author/screenwriter was very smart to write in a high EQ +IQ HR person. The actor who plays Wei Wei was the perfect cast (creepy but at the same time you get glimpses of eccentric brilliance)… his character was rather unique.
It’s kinda dated esp with the exponential progress in Mainland dramas (and also as a country) in the past 5 yrs so some depictions are quite dated which irks me a bit like wardrobe, set, dubbing, like 2nd generation family conglomerates are slightly more developed and matured now given the support/guidance of asset managers/private bankers etc… I love the age gaps between all the girls too, that’s pretty real-life.
I just started and am super curious to watch on just to see wot happens… defo caught me by surprise… because I thought it would be superb cliché like Tiny Times….
Edit: Dropped. Couldn’t tell if it was coz of the colour grading or the plot progression… maybe both… but the colour grading was really distracting…
