Although Season 2 was also good but Season 1 was so much better…. Just rewatched Season 1 and it was really damn good…. Esp coz they were introducing Hwang Si Mok’s character for the first time, and his unique personality. In many ways I wish I was like Hwang Si Mok, he is so swag and just….. cold but also warm inside although he doesn’t feel much and can’t express it. Not to mention he is absolutely brilliant because everything is just based on logic.
Cho Seung Woo and his character was just so awesome in this drama. Like his presence and the way he carries himself…. 😯 watching it for the 2nd time…
I still find it to be a really good drama except for the last 1/3…. The plot could have been more…… exciting, like how they started off… so the anti-hero could have disclosed his behind-the-scenes intentions earlier. And made the fight against the chaebol happen earlier.
I truly wonder if an elder brother like that exist in real life…. Or more of if blood-related romance of this sort exist in real-life…
Is this drama worth watching? In case if its related to some revenge I'm so into it ㅋㅋㅋ
Why revenge…….? 😧 9 out of 10 revenge themed dramas just leave you feeling so…… empty and hollow. It’s usually superb extreme and kinda feel like time wasted watching it, there’s usually so much other things in life that is worth that kinda wrath and effort. I just finished watching Money Flower… didn’t leave me as much angst as after I watched Nirvana in Fire. 🤣 I think Money in Flower is not bad though as much as I totally don’t enjoy revenge themes.
I can actually understand why the ratings and viewership rose steadily for this drama in Korea. The ending doubled versus the first episode… which isn’t an easy feat… this defo caught my attention and I decided to give it a go.
The whole revenge theme is still not my cup of tea but I have to admit that the entire production and acting was pretty amazing from almost the entire cast….. and the plot is more multi-dimensional versus something like Nirvana in Fire. Defo more applicable to current times and society. Also quite surprised they got a lot of the technical bits accurately for a conglomerate, esp. a chaebol… in that sense it was relatively believable + realistic versus other dramas that have business themes.
I just didn’t find the FL convincing and truly dislike revenge themes but think this should have been an 8.5 per MDL’s standards. And just like NiF it has the same pacing which I find a tad too long… maybe 4 hours shorter or so would have hit the “sweet spot”…….?
Anyways defo worth a watch for anyone who enjoys revenge genres. It’s a lot more balanced and I can understand why Kang Pil Jo did wot he did because there was a worthy ultimate goal… instead of just punishment and misery.
The ONLY reason to watch this is for Jang Hyuk’s performance. The rest is just awful - unless you are into an…
Lol. Nearly all revenge dramas piss me off, I’m totally in the minority because I felt so annoyed after watching Nirvana in Fire….. I mean yes, it was super intricate and smart but damn…… the series was so one-dimensional. Revenge so dry with no other themes, how sad and unrealistic for this day and age….
But this one is good though, although I still don’t like revenge themes. This actually reflects modern day societies (albeit the over the top drama)… I actually think a lot of the script had realistic lines wrt money, power, greed. Jang Hyuk was truly amazing though…. And I think the guy who played Boo Cheon was also really really good. Jang Hyuk’s cold expression and gaze is seriously priceless..
Lol. It was one of the weirdest personal mysteries for me this year. And I rewatched it a few times after… it was so so weird. For me it was Son Seok Kyu… and he paired really well with Kim Ji Won. And there’s just something about this drama… I think it’s partially coz everyone in this generation (the same generation depicted in the drama) would find the script and scenario relatable and realistic one way or another…
I tried to watch My Mister after this, totally couldn’t get into it. Didn’t like it at all…
Am I the only one who misses So Ji Sub in this kind of Tom com
Me too. He is sucha good actor. Like esp all the scenes that he is in pain. like wow. But he hasn’t had anything good like the past 2-3 yrs. I’m so sad. 😭
Please who understands the king problem? I am in EP10 and I really don't get him. What does the king want?
For them to compete….. and know where the boundaries lie (I.e to be resolute but doesn’t mean you should be ruthless and hit below the belt). Without competition one would never grow.
So basically he is pushing all his sons, to improve, become wiser, stronger because ultimately the future of the kingdom lies with them…. I think this emperor (this actor) is probably the best emperor character written in dramas…. He never reveals his trump card… always hiding behind a façade. He’s amazing.
He is defo testing all of them….. and observing how they react and respond. He also wants to test if anyone is ambitious enough to kill him and replace him as the emperor.
