So I finished this last night. Ended up giving it a 7.5 and the dubious distinction of Most Overrated Drama I have seen. You can check out my full review if you're curious why. http://mydramalist.com/1702-city-hunter-2011/reviews/recent
For now, I'll just say it's a very good show, but please don't fall for the ridiculous "Perfect 10s" reviews. Giving this show a 10 on Story should be illegal.
That being said, let me stress: this is a very good drama. It just has real problems that people should be aware of going in.
Well, I finished. What a fantastic and heartfelt drama. Got me crying multiple times, and not at over-the-top, unrealistic drama, but at real, relatable things: when someone lost a job, or missed their kids, etc. The tears would just suddenly come. This drama definitely makes you think about your life and ask "Do I really appreciate the important people? Do I take the time to show them that they're important?"
Yeah, I have no interest at all in any of those shows, so I definitely don't feel like I am missing out. Also, when you think about it, you only have so many hours in your life that you can spend on television, so by choosing one show to watch, you are automatically missing out on another show you could have watched instead.
But I know what you mean: when you're moved by a piece of entertainment, you can't help but want other people to experience it the same way you did.
So... I'm only 3 episodes in, but... I mean, Kang So Ra is officially the prettiest person on the planet, right?…
Yeah, it was very obvious from what I saw that she's comfortable with the English language.
And I am officially following her on Twitter now, thank you.

Impressed with both her English AND her Russian (Lee Sung Min's English, on the other hand, is the worst I have ever heard in a drama... but that might have been on purpose?). Is it normal for Koreans to know more than two languages? Or is her character just perfect at everything?
So, I ended up giving this an 8/10. It was a 9 for the first half, but the second half pacing is really bad and it drags. Do historical dramas HAVE to be 24 episodes? Because this could have been just as good or better with 20 or even 16 episodes.
Another thing: I get that it has to follow history, which is fine, but they set up all these plot points and treated them like they were super important, only to simply leave them dangling or resolve them off screen. That lack of focus and the bad pacing docked it a point. However, it still gets the high score because the characters were just that strong, both writing and acting. Also, the music was probably some of the best I have heard in any drama.
Definitely worth watching, especially if you like melodrama.
I have 2 more episodes to go. Randomly and inexplicably, I have fallen head over heels for..... wait for it...... Yeo Ri, the maidservant. No idea why.
I am absolutely heartbroken that the actress who plays her, Min Ji, has not been in anything for the last 4 years. Why? WHY!? T_______T
how disappointing that the rating of this drama dropped from 9.something to 8.9 :(((
The site is fine, trolls will always be a minority, and don't get too worked up about Fake Internet Points. This show is great, its popularity and awards speak for itself, and anyone who won't give it a chance is free to miss out as much as they want.
Healer is amazing. I know that, you know that, so don't let anything spoil that for you. :)
This definitely could have been better with another female lead.
Madness. Park Min Young was divine. I had never even heard of her before watching this and didn't expect much from her, yet she absolutely won my heart completely.
So you're saying it's reasonable for someone to judge something they know nothing at all about?
Seriously, the things you're saying you don't like don't actually exist. That's not what happened in this show. The ending is not what you are saying the ending is. "Personal choice" has nothing to do with this. You're claiming you "did not like" something that you never even experienced.

Gave it an 8.5/10. Really amazing show.
