This doesnât apply to all C-netizens, most just quietly play online like everybody else in the world. This is more about the toxic fan culture that seems to be an offshoot of idol culture. Tbh, most of the toxicity isnât from the fans themselves. I believe most fans just want to like their faves. But there are these bloggers and marketing accounts that constantly whip up the environment in a negative direction, which causes this chaos of comparison and competition. Influenced by those elements, some fans bring that toxicity back to the stars.

The relationship seems to be more parasocial with C-ent, and the situation with traffic stars seems to be making it worse. Itâs not about scandals or spotlight per se but about creating the perfect image of a âfemale starâ and/or giving the fans the ability to live vicariously through you by being someone they can brag about. For some fans this involves glamorous photoshoots, walking the red carpet, variety shows, and tons of marketing but she doesnât really do much of this anymore. Sheâs gotten better with regular posting but sometimes she goes quiet when sheâs filming. Or she goes quiet during her downtime for it to be revealed later that she was volunteering, participating in the arts, or learning a new skill to advance her acting career. To less parasocial fan environments this seems normal but in her case itâs lost her fans or gotten her scolded. The only plus side of her getting ill this summer is that the quiet seems to have purged some of the more toxic voices but if this show keeps doing so well, Iâm afraid it will bring some of them back.
Todayâs episodes really deserved the ratings hike. I feel like this show is going to ruin me for other shows for a while. At the very least, outside of actors I follow, I think Iâm done with idol dramas for now. The budgets are big but many donât even have 1/10 of the sincerity of this show. Itâs not perfect but this show is so subtle and so brilliant with how it deals with characters. The little revelations of humanity or the struggles between good and evil are so touching. Especially when the show isnât trying to whitewash the wrong doing.
Looks like everyone could be wrong about the cute nerdy physicist being a spy. She likely just has a crush on…

Gonna start doing that now. I swear this downvoting only happens when this show beats out this other show in the…
Imagine having all that negative energy. Itâs so gross. Downrating this drama isnât going to uplift their fave. Itâs better to accumulate good virtue.
I feel like the people complaining about PHMâs makeup must be complaining about the first episode and donât understand itâs intentionally like that. PHM isnât the type to be really good a makeup. After that itâs just the eyebrows but theyâre necessary to give her that fierce edge otherwise she looks too soft and young. Honestly when the light hits right she looks like a kid. Sheâll look like sheâs playing pretend officer. And if the show used Xiaofengâs delicate makeup for a rough and tumble officer, theyâd be laughing stocks. Honestly, not everything has to be judged by idol drama standards. The setting and times needs to be considered.
They're probably irritated by the subtitles. But I think that over the episodes it will increase again.
Yeah, thatâs why itâs so annoying. A lot of really good stuff gets buried here because people are annoyed at subtitles and downvote without seeing the bigger picture.

Yes, I hope it continues to do well and gets a score above 7, hopefully in the high 7s so the haters canât bring it down too much. Iâve heard people are already trying to give 1 stars on Douban.
People keep saying this is a group drama to insult the leads but itâs really not an insult. Itâs a compliment to the drama and the screenwriter. A good story can never rely on only one character and itâs only when all the main characters are 3D that the world starts to become real and the interactions interesting. Even minor characters are given some depth in this show. Itâs great because whether they are good or bad, at least the viewers can see and understand their motivations, which makes it easier to empathise and therefore become more engage in the story.
