I think companies just have a tendency to focus only on one talent and everyone else gets scraps. That’s why there’s that concept of First X of X company. If what is said about censorship is true, bad guys aren’t allowed to be illuminated nor grey (though I think this has to do with platform) which really restricts how stories get told. Instead of going the typical route of straight depiction which might not make it, he has instead created a situation of paranoia in the viewer in even if the characters are acting normally, the viewer is suspicious. There is no need to tell both sides of their story, they are just living their lives while the viewers make their own calculations. This gets full blooded villains past the censors without them losing their depth.
