That’s their loss. Junho and Seyoung are both beautiful people, inside and out. They’re versatile and aren’t afraid to challenge themselves. Looking through their acting history as leads, they’ve played different roles/genres and excelled in portraying their characters (director/writer aside).

Hasn’t Netflix picked up some Viki originals after the fact when they do really well? I’m not sure since I mostly watch on Viki unless it was something that was Netflix only like Sisyphus and Kingdom.

She didn’t hate him, she said so, no grudges. She only said that about the afterlife because she assumes he will be King again based on their conversation in ep16 where he said he doesn’t know about being an ordinary person, she was meant to be Court Lady and him King. So if he’s King again please pass on by, because she doesn’t want to be a concubine again. I think in the novel she actually said that part about him being King in the next life on her deathbed and how it’s because she wants to be able to have her own husband and her children call her mother, the things they couldn’t have in this life.
Also, she actually told him with saying the words that she loved him right before she took her last breath.

I see your point but I guess I didn’t get the impression that her whole life was tragic. My impression was that she went through life as she said, happy days/sad days, normal but towards the end, she couldn’t grieve her son properly. Yes, she lashed out once, but then composed herself. Probably would have been better if they had the family time portion of the novel in between 16 and 17.

His new concubine was chosen for him after a few years and titled Subin, the one that made the perfect bowl of dumplings that brought back memories of Doek-Im in the drama. They had a son and daughter. He never loved another like he did Doek-Im, which is why IRL, his children with Subin were like 3 years apart. He mostly only slept with his wives on the prescribed baby-making days. Doek-Im was pregnant not long after each pregnancy/delivery cause he was with her almost every day he was able to.

Actually, she did not have fantasies of life outside the palace. She just wanted to remain a Court Lady. She could have lived more freely as a Court Lady even if you can’t have love and children of your own. Court Ladies could leave the palace on their days off but concubines could not. However, because San was in love with her, she was now a target for Hwabin and San looses his composure when Doek-Im is in danger. The Queen Dowager was going to move her to her own palace but San got to her first. He could have also sent her away which is why he asked her to make the choice, freedom without ever seeing him again or be with him as his concubine. As a concubine, nothing is yours. Your husband and children belong to the Nation and the Queen. Your children cannot call you mother and you cannot call them by name. And because she loved San and understood the weight of his responsibilities, she couldn’t even ask him to spare her friend’s life. It would have put him in a predicament since she knew San loved her and would probably give in, compromising his values as King. So she sacrificed herself to be with him and was both happy and sad. That is the tragic life she led so it was very realistic. It probably would have been different if she didn’t loose her children.

I believe Doek-Im was always considerate towards the Queen Dowager. She just wasn’t willing to devote herself to the Queen Dowager as her main loyalty was already with San. The Queen Dowager and San are very much alike and that shows in their games of go and conversation. No matter what, they’re frenemies.
