This was genuinely a fun show. I love complex characters and the ML is definitely one that I'd want to see more sides of. He's a little psycho who joins MMA just to beat one specific person up and his calculative determination causes him to be able to fight semi-pro within a few months. His character is this mix of cold/soulless and then little bits of humanity and sympathy (& sportsmanship). I feel like the plot could go down a route of him becoming crazed with power or learning to care for the friends he's making along the way.
Could you please hide your comment about the Love Triangle trope under "Spoiler" ?Some people haven't watched…
Thank you for bringing that up. I think that it'd be okay to keep up because knowing there's a love triangle could warn people before they watched. In the cdrama it actually made me really uncomfortable because the FL and that brother actually felt like real brothers so it genuinely made me want to stop the show for a bit. It's also included in the tags as a non-spoiler as well.
But thank you for reaching out! I hate it when people reveal key points in shows that can ruin the experience of watching something.
I tend to get bored of cop dramas after watching them for so many years, but somehow this show just works. The premise is fun, the cases are intense yet don't feel empty once solved, the leads are caricatures but genuine at the same time. I loved the equal relationship between the leads that felt so natural. The FL stays strong even as she battles her prejudices. The ML stays shameless and fun even as he deals with finding his role in life and dealing with cases and victims with sincerity. This is genuinely a good all-rounder opposites attract buddy cop show with great pacing, great chemistry, and I can't wait for the second season.
I really wanted to like this, but sadly it fell flat. It had so many interesting components with a vibrant setting, talented and charismatic pairings, and interesting plots as well, but the screenplay and director just didn't follow through. Elvis and Josephine were one of the most charismatic parings I've seen in drama land, but all that chemistry comes from the actors not the bland characters. Ariel and Le characters have a really interesting setup with a hardworking career woman and a free spirited family focused guy. This makes for an interesting opposites attract story where perspectives and beliefs can clash. But the actors in this pairing don't have much chemistry. So we're left with two couples that aren't really interesting enough to keep your attention with a setting that quickly becomes the one dimensional selling point.
Sadly I'm dropping this at episode 7, because not much is happening. Let me know if it gets better/spoiler me about the ending if ya can.
It's a pretty typical family drama, but not as much slice as life I would've liked. It would've been nice to see more of the tiny moments to show the chemistry between the actors. I think it's a solid 7.5, simple and straightforward family drama. But truly, I would recommend people to watch the original. The natural chemistry where you could feel the love with every small gesture and action, it really feels like family in the original. I think the only thing I liked better in the kdrama version was the dads. The dad characters and actors in the kdrama are way better written and acted in my opinion. Everything else, I'd say the original did better, except I love the fact that the kdrama took out the love triangle.
The tension, suspense, and mystery were great for only about 4 episodes. The writers should've taken the time to reveal some of the twists relating to Hee Joo. You've got to build mystery so the reveals have payoff. Yet they revealed two major ones in the first episode. There's practically no context for the last three years of their relationship and they don't really build much of a relationship throughout the drama either. They just throw in the typical "childhood crushes" and call it a day. They easily could've made the first two episodes showing more of the past three years and their current tense and cold relationship and shouldn't Hee Joo be not all that stable after being neglected, talked down upon, and ignored for three straight years?? But instead she's just a little mad? They definitely should've developed that too.
This show feels like one of the mini web cdramas where it's all intense and intrigue, but this kdrama doesn't actually have hitting points after those first few episodes and the leads feel bland as soon as they get together, because truly there was no build up as to why they care for each other other than their vague childhood friendship. This is a bland high budget drama with great actors that don't have the script to match their levels. Dropped at ep 9 because I can already guess the suspects and I don't feel for the lead's bland relationship.
I have not been able to find it. It seems like it'll be one of the old movies that never got attention so it'll fade to obscurity, at least internationally.
I don't enjoy really wuxias or superpower related things, but this show is definitely an exception. Genuinely just a well paced, thorough plot, with multidimensional characters. This is easily one of the best cdramas I've seen and I totally recommend this to people even if they don't typically enjoy the genre. They story has many working parts and you gain more interest as the story unfolds.
Unfortunately, I have to agree. It was an attempt to make a good, deep and high-quality series with a humanistic…
I completely agree. I love psychological themes and that is very rare in cdramas. They included a specific mental disorder and about the social and environmental inclusion of people with disabilities/disorders, whether physical or mental. These are great topics, but they don't really add any human layers to them or about their extreme importance. Like the setting of the plot could've been on the ML's job as he creates designs for people. There could've been new characters each ep where you learn about their disabilities, gain sympathy, feel for their struggle, and then see how designs could help them in their daily life. That kind of workplace setting would've been way more interesting and added more humanity to the show. It could've provided a backdrop for the ML's disability too. I say this show is just a missed opportunity for something that could've been great. It feels like a plot that japan could do really well with their focus on humanity.
The one thing that's good about this is that it's different, they attempted to create something deep and original. Buttt they failed to do so.
With this kind of story, it feels like it should be character driven (since there isn't much plot). But the character's don't really exist outside romance. The FL is supposed to have big dreams and want to get a promotion at work, but you don't see why she cares nor do you see her work that hard. She has dreams without passion (also why would her boss push for her promotion when she slacks off at work a lot). The ML has a life altering mental disorder (nonofficial). But it doesn't dive nearly as deep as it could. The ML has lived years with it dealing with school life, joining the workforce, etc. He's had so many encounters, yet it doesn't talk about how much he desires for emotion outside of the romance. Like what about his friendship with the 2FL? What about friendships he had wanted, but lost, what has he lost because of his disorder? What pain, helplessness, and nothingness has he felt for years? His struggle feels empty outside of the romance of the leads.
Lastly, the pacing is just off. They didn't have enough plot, so they threw in work life, secondary couples, and non-funny stand up comedy. I really wanted to like this, but I could not get past bland characters, one dimensional psychological issues, and a draggy plot.
Netflix once again just threw a bunch of money into production without actually developing anything. The cinematography, big name actors, fancy cars, and massive house took all the budget and feels like none went into the script and screenplay. The characters don't make sense, the pacing is off, and the whole thing feel underdeveloped. Would've worked better as a movie. I dropped it halfway. I say skip and just watch the edits that people will make afterwards.
I think that not everyone needs a romantic love in their life to be happy. He needs time to get over his love…
I get what you mean. I imagine that by the end, he's really worked on healing and learning to love himself more so that he's able to care for others in a more respectful and healthy way. So I imagine that as he continues to grow, he gains more friendships and finds romantic love as well. I simply mean that his emotional growth was such a big step for him that more intense, time consuming, or emotional relationships like romance wouldn't have been good for him at the time. It could lead to him spiraling again. Haha enough of me psychoanalyzing. I agree with your perspective as well. We all want happy endings where the characters are surrounded by all forms of love, because what could be more fulfilling of a beautiful reality than that :)
Of course there's some annoying family drama and quick forgiveness for some pretty heinous acts because it's a thai drama. But oh my goodness this is one of the most complete and emotionally satisfying romances I've ever seen. It is a character driven story where the leads have so many moments of reflection, learning about each other, learning why they are they way they are, and they never stop getting to know each other. There is wonderful yearning (in jane austen fasion) with emotional intimacy and so many levels to their love. The story doesn't end when they get married, but continues throughout their life in order to see how their love changes and remains with time. The side characters are annoying, but Nid and Prarsit are adorable side characters that add life to the show. The leads are extremely multidimensional with their varying morals and perspectives in life. The FL is adorable, sweet, strong, confidential, and is true to herself in a really admirable way (not a stereotypical rich girl or strong girl). The ML is a calm and moral focused man with psychologically deep aspects on how he views himself due to his upbringing.
I 100% recommend this if you enjoy historical romance, yearning, emotional intimacy, multidimensional characters and relationships, and love.
I'll definitely be tuned in for season two.
