Title Regeneration Spoiler
I’m on episode 9 and think it’s weird He Shan is so into Fei Ke’s business. They parted ways, what’s it…
Well she was hired to investigate him, so that's what sent her down the rabbit hole. But she's that invested not because of how close they were, but because of what they could've been. They were close friends who had dreams and plans together, imagining a future at the same college. She even admits that he was almost her first love, but it never blossomed into one-it was cut short. She likely morns the future that Li Zenrui had, the person that he would've become, and the relationship that they could've had.

Plus she was the only person to know who he really was. She was the only one that knew her secrets, so they had an odd bond in that sort of way as well.

The dark tone and psychological twists are really fun to watch if you enjoy layered and complex characters. There are a lot of aspects that are subjective even by the end so you get to form your own opinion about some character motivations. I really liked how they didn't spell things out, it's as messy and confusing as a real person. People are far to complicated to ever fully understand.

Plus the acting is incredible. Jing Bo Ran really impressed me in this.

Title Regeneration Spoiler
It ends with each person returning to their happiest self or their truest forms of themselves. For Fei Kei, only after his death did he regain his name. Only in his last moments, did he do something that was true of himself, returning to his innocent self still full of hopes and dreams. Only once before his death did he get to hear his true name, only once...

Only one person remembered who he once was, Shen was his only lifeline. And in his final moments, he chose to safe that lifeline, the last remaining piece of his hope.

This feels like a book adapted into a movie-there's so much plot, details, and world building, yet none of them are actually explored.

And what in the world was that ending?? Because she's indecisive and decides to stay in her world, the movie ends when him being dead by the time she goes back?? We don't see a reunion with him as an old man-maybe a celebration funeral like we saw before or anything??

The visuals of the world are very believable. The costuming, buildings, color grading, and filter all look really good. But the world building plot wise is honestly quite hard to follow. The romance was the least interesting thing when the world has such a crazy setup.

I tried but couldn't make it past the first 20 minutes. Zhang Chi is beautiful and talented as always- I love his microexpressions. Despite the fun concept, an ex-con is a very unconventional setup, it feels very bland. The lead actress can barely act and I have no clue what happened with the dubbing in this, the voice acting is terrible.

Title The Secret Kitchen Spoiler
I love the concept, but the story needed more spacing out. The romance blossomed way too quickly whereas it should've…
The FL even makes insanely selfish decisions while the ML has no self-preservation and is overly focused on her. It bothered me how the ML had some strange morals. After finding out he had a fiance, he should've been devastated. He should've felt guilty to the woman he promised a life with and felt conflicted, but he became obsessed with the FL as a ghost. I get they made a deep connection, but once again, the romance felt way too quick.

Justice for my poor girl toko :( She was really going through it. Dated for two years, only months away from the wedding and her fiance almost dies. She believes it's attempted murder and throws herself into a dangerous investigation all while staying by his beside while he's in a coma. And while she is worried if he'll wake up, he's falling in love with someone else while he has amnesia :( I really wish they'd either changed this storyline or focused more on them falling apart once he was awake. The story had too many things going on, yet also didn't go too deeply into others.

I love the concept, but the story needed more spacing out. The romance blossomed way too quickly whereas it should've stayed more ambiguous for most of the series, that would've lended more to the deep bond that no one else could understand. There's barely any consideration to the fact that she's even married?? Like zero hesitations before they're both practically in love in such a short period.

The soft slice of life and sincere tone that the beginning had was quickly switched with the story focusing on the messiness and mystery aspects, losing time for the relationship to develop- it really feels like it came out of nowhere before they're professing love. I loved the concept and the atmosphere of the first few eps, but then they struggle to balance the many plots. I loved the first 3/4 episodes, but then felt less enthusiastic about the rest of the show. Overall a 7.5/10 and worth a watch, but the beginning is the best part.

Can I watch this prior to the prequels btw, as a seperate movie
Each movie has the same two lead characters solve a new mystery. I'd recommend you start with the first one because I think it's better, but you're good to watch this one without seeing the others.
