The main character says he hasn't reached his unlucky year, so we know he's under 24... then says he's a fresh graduate- so about 22.... we assume from the dialogue that Sila is in his 30s (to be Gen Y), so calling him old / calling himself old would be a way of highlighting the generation gap...no?

...Where's the baiting? We had one lead confirmed gay, knows this about himself and others do too and the other who's had feelings for his friend but isn't ever really romance-focused. Ryu was as queer as can be and their relationship was very queer.
Maybe if Ryu were a different kind of person, the show would be more to your taste?

When we switch to Ryu, we get very romantic, we get the word "gay", we get stares, smiles and wanting to build a life together. We knew from the first episode that Ryu wouldn't give us this. He doesn't focus on romantic feelings or such, just the circumstances around them... I liked how whenever someone would say something (and because of the nature of the language, it could be interpreted as talking about what's infront of them/ occurring or refer to Ryu and Johan) and Ryu would short-circuit for a tiny bit before the clarification came in the following statement...

They are being cautious from previous experiences. Without that pin, who knows how a group of twenty-something year old men senior to him would treat him.
