I totally agree. I see her and Xiang Liu as soulmates while with Jing it's more like friendship and companionship. They don't have burning hot chemistry like she does with Xiang Liu imo.

but for Xiang Liu....
when XY was in a coma for 37 years, XL would caress her face and sleep next to her. Every time he healed her by transferring his blood to her, he would tightly embrace her. Since his embrace was so tight, she could feel his whole body.
XL's blood contained poison so he would suck the poison out of her by her neck. Afterwards, he would caress her face again and cuddle her for some time.
XL would sometimes carry her to the surface and talk to her about his past or trivial things. He would also ask her questions.
for the voodoo bug...
Because of the bug, XL could feel all of XY's heartache after what happened with Jing. Whenever she felt pain in her heart, XL would make her heart race letting her know he could feel it too. XL would take some of the burden from her and her heart didn't feel as much pain 😭
I'm guessing the voodoo bug is supposed to let XY feel XL's heart too but he masks it well. Later on in the novel, XY could feel XL's heart beat fast when they were together in the clamshell but then he masked it again.

it's likely I'll never understand either... I'm halfway through the novel now and some of the things you-know-who (🦊) does/fails to do makes me feel frustrated and roll my eyes.
the novel made me admire 🐍 even more. the drama cut out the intimate moments he and XY had when they were in the ocean for 37 years... plus there were more details about the voodoo bug and how 🐍 could relieve some of her heartache

the list of things to look forward to is small for me as well. reading the novel and I'm getting more anxiety after finishing each chapter. it's that anxious feeling since I know I'm getting closer and closer to my fave's tragic end.
