First I was intrigued. Then for a bit I began to get bored...and finally I was really into this flick. These people and their endless bullshit were EXHAUSTING but fascinating too, perhaps mostly in how earnestly and self-righteously each of them believed themselves to be authentically aggrieved upon discovering THEY were the target of something akin to that which they were targeting someone else. Despite the histrionics and heavy shit going down, it almost became comical at times: The young women shrieking in childish frustration when they were found out or something didn't go their way; the men accusing others of "looking down on them" with great indignation. Never mind they pretty much DESERVED to be looked down on.
I don't buy that this is some peek into the seamy underside of a glamorous facade at desperate people merely trying to survive. These were neurotics and lazy, bush-league psychopaths who desperately wanted to GET RICH or live as though they were at almost any cost. I mean, not one of the characters actually tried getting a real, you know, JOB. lol
I really enjoyed this, actually. 8/10
On edit: where was all the sexual prostitution this was supposed to be about? Wasn't it mostly about people being paid to chat up rich women, get them drunk and help them spend their money on drinks and food? Where was all the sex?
I will never be the same. Some movies change you. Major-league ugly-cry for me, one of the worst I've managed. The most horrific thing is that this shit is real. The capacity of some human beings to wreak misery on others is unlimited. I feel guilty for having my easy-ass American life that I frequently bitch and moan about. I am glad not to have seen this in a theatre as I would have had to be taken out on a stretcher. A sensationally effecting film, but overall one of the hardest watches I think I've ever sat through. My heart is broken, but the film that broke it is so well-done and I'm glad I saw it, even so. It will take me a couple of days to recover from this and its story will linger for a long time, as it should.
Oof. I’m glad you’re still tuning in every week though so that might say something. I know I usually drop…
I can't say repeating every predictable trope, cliche, plot device and character type known to BL a thousand times over is a great way to send a "love letter" to the genre. More like a hate letter or an easy excuse for lazy writing. Were all the OTHER BLs that used all these devices ALSO love letters to the genre? Honestly, I don't know how projects like this get funded by investors, unless they think they can make money by repeating the same thing and that's all they care about.
I would LOVE to see both of these actors, especially Ohm, star in a BL-type series at the quality level of I Told Sunset About You. I see him as having SO much untapped acting potential and I think he's game for anything, which is key.
Because he knew what osamu is doing wrong and wants to stop it.
I don't believe it can be stated that simply. If that's the case, then why run away from the shopkeepers? I do believe he was struggling with a newly awakened conscience as to whether what he was doing was right or wrong or in between or sometimes some of one or the other at the same time. But if he wanted to stop, why not just...stop?
I would say it's a happy realistic ending Nobuyo will get out of prison after (5 years?) Osamu is free & probably…
I don't believe they kidnapped Shota out of the blue, anymore than Osamu kidnapped Yuri. He saved her and I don't get why no one ratted out the abusive parents either. I got the sad feeling from the conversation at the prison that Shoboyu had brain-washed herself into deiding exactly what she said: that she and Osamu aren' t good enough for Shota or Juri. My guess is Shota was left locked in a car in the heat or something like that and he really did save him, perhaps breaking the window to get him out.
It's pretty clear the top reviewers didn't watch the film. For instance, "There are no intense and pulse-pounding…
You are an intensely self-righteous know-it-all who apparently was tripping out when they should have been watching the film. There are so many mistatements and misinterpretations and plain-ass idiotic nonsense in your comment I'm not going to waste my time in responding. This film is over your head and it shows.
this is quite sad. Makes you question society a lot. The family was so heartfelt and well acted. And the cinematography…
It was quietly glorious how the family just enfolded Juri into the unit, more or less without question, especially how Grandma so quickly took to her and caring for her. Also awesome to see that moment when Dad and Mom were returning Juri to her "home" and Mom heard that awful couple fighting and the things they said about Juri...you saw in her face that in that moment she began to become juri's mom. Beautiful.
Heart-broken again. I hate how establishment law enforcement/social services/press come charging in with no sense of the universe where most of us live between black and white. Everyone in that household wanted to be there. It was far from perfect but far better than regularly being beaten and burned, don't you think? Don't get why neither Shamato or Norburo told what had been going on at the girl's home before she came to them, if only to protect her from more of the same. Don't get why the boy did what he did at the end either.
Oof. I’m glad you’re still tuning in every week though so that might say something. I know I usually drop…
Basically, it's just Ohm's charisma, charm, acting props and bod. Seriously, that's it. I'm OK with Nanon one way or the other. The character is written so monotonously, in that he keep repeating his yes/no act with Ohm, that I don't know if it's him or Pran I don't care for. I think it's time for both actors to move on from BL.
omg...lol. This is so bad that it's almost good. Every trope, cliche and idea previously used a hundred times in other BLs is here to enjoy, right down to a trip to the beach for god's sake.
Ohm is the one and only reason I watch this on Fridays, and I FF until it looks like something of slight interest might be happening, which means stopping to watch the Ohm-sleeveless shirt scenes. Other than that it's just Pran being a little bitch and Pat chasing him around. And my god...Pran's mom is a ridiculously stereotypical psycho Asian mother bitch...and it seems like for no good reason.
To me, this series is called "Ohm's Biceps and Calves," and that's why I watch.
It's been my impression that in Korean films EVERYBODY is smoking most of the time. Lazy actors busy-work.
I am not an anti-smoking in movies activist or anything like that, but there seems to be so much smoking in Korean films that to me it feels like a cliche.' Some character goes outside to "think" and sure enough, they light up. I haven't researched it in Korea, but in the U.S. fewer and fewer people smoke with every generation and the habit has been decreasing for years. And yet even in American films you see quite a bit of cig-smoking. There IS something, I will admit, about the act of smoking that looks kind of "cool," I have no idea why even I feel that way because I find the habit repulsive and stinky and gross IRL. But onscreen there's a certain cache' to it, I suppose. :P
That would be my guess and my solution. And it is absolutely perfect for the situation. The first six years of life worth of bonding outstrip any amount of common DNA.
