Title Bad Buddy
Young fanbase? Of all stories... Bad Buddy lol? I think this story is wayyyy too angsty to fit that bill. It may…
In what way is it "refreshing and different," other than the new pairing of lead actors, both of whom deserve and could be successfully portraying much better/more developed and less silly characters. I hope they both got paid lots of money to do this and that may be WHY they did it.

What the hell are you talking about? Tropes are what MAKE UP the story, which has been one trope after another here. And could you point out moments of amazing acting so far? Thanks.

Heads up: Any series called "Bad Buddy" is aimed at the grade, middle and junior-high school set.

I think you are basically wrong. I also think you work for this production company. You're awfully invested in its success and perception. No, I don't need to read the original novel, and I have no interest in doing so. A drama should stand on its own. And there are zero indications in the first two eps of this series that there is some wondrous, mature love story to come. lol

where?the king is literally a groomer
Because people who say things like "why is it so hard for people to have morals?" usually want those people to have THEIR morals.

Who said all the guards are gay? Maybe the King honed in on the young Chief because he picked up on his gay or bisexuality as well as his talent for fighting. What was OK in the past is STILL OK in the past, which is where the movie is set. People are far too quick to throw around the word "pedophilia" these days. I've heard it applied to relationships between a 19 and 16-year old for gods sake.

Who cares if my 13 year-old choice was "best?" It's the one I made. If no one got raped or murdered or forced or otherwise traumatized what's the big deal? I think a lot of messed up adults DEMAND that people be traumatized by past events in their life that weren't that big a deal. I had a sexual encounter at 13 with a doctor in his 40s. I'm glad it happened. Should he have done it? No. He eventually was ratted out by some other kid and at the very least lost his license and his marriage. But I don't regret it in the slightest.

Do you I guess. The only part I find childish is the fights between their friends. Tropes are tropes for a reason.…
It is the HOW those tropes are presented that makes a work original or just...trope-ish. Please tell me what you've seen in these first two eps that is at all original. Thanks.
We've even had a bitch mother transfer her son, who acts like he's a fifth-grader in her presence, to another school. lol Oh the originality of the plot!

Ummm. how do you know what is going to happen next episode?
I said much of the viewership is young and immature. I stand by it. It's true. Look up the demographics.
It is not "disrespectful" to state the obvious.
The title itself: "Bad Buddy," is aimed at the Disney set, don't you think?
If there is some extremely sophisticated, mature, angst-laden love story to come, don't blame me that the director chose to make the first two eps so silly.
What do you mean by "bash?" It is not "bashing" to state one's opinion of a piece of entertainment that's subpar.
I already said I would not be watching the rest. READ. UNDERSTAND.
Again, I SAID I WON'T BE WATCHING THE REST.
"insulted and degraded other viewers..." lol. Get over your drama-queen self.

I referred to the "BL viewership" as the "young fanbase." And yes, it is. What are you basing all these predictions for the story on? I've seen two episodes of what could be the first two eps of 25 other BLs made before.

Stfu stop spreading fake shit first of all its a film. None of this shit is real
Is it that you pretend you really ARE Nicki Minaj when you write your moronic comments or what's up with the deeply stupid style of writing? And did your god tell you to call me an asshole?

Reading through the comments, even a little bit, has made me realize how much of the BL viewership consists of teeny-boppers and those who think like them. Even taken as a screwball comedy, this series is badly done and nothing but tropes, cliches and predictable behavior. It was clearly produced for a VERY young fanbase that has almost ZERO standards, so that counts me out, thank god. I'm no spring chicken, but I might have thought this was cute 16 months ago when I first found the universe of BLs and it was all new to me. But by now I've seen enough to know that the people who made this have no respect for their audience and regard it as a monolithic group of immature, standards-free fan-girls of both sexes who will hungrily lap up whatever they throw at it so what if it's been done 50 times before?. I'll wait until these two actors get out of BL and then see what they're up to.

This is so extremely lame. NOTHING original in the plot, whatsoever. Nanon and Ohm are too mature to be playing these moronic, juvenile sort of story-lines, such as two cliques of four dudes each who violently, physically assault each other repetitively because, well, because that's uhhh...what they do. And it's made worse by the fact that it feels like a high school story set at a university.

Also, at what point does the fact that these two characters hang out with complete douchebags who are loud, rude, obnoxious and always looking to start a fight reflect on who THEY are as individuals? Both actors need to move on from this tripe.

That said, I will likely have to get a new laptop as Ohm's hotness keeps causing the old one to overheat.

After seeing Frozen Flowers, I am not shocked to see some bed scenes on this one. Some s*x scenes reminds me of…
It is weird to me that so many commenters on MDL have this bizarre hang-up about sex scenes. Exactly what is it about sex scenes that makes you think they are any less a legitimate plot device than anything else? Frozen Flower is one of my top five favorite Asian gay themed movies and while it is not BECAUSE of the sex scenes, it is certainly not IN SPITE of them. I am glad they are part of the overall narrative as they show us whey exactly the Chief and the Queen fall into lust/love with each other. Leave out those intense sex scenes, and the way they build one on top of the last, in explicitness and detail, and you leave out an important part of the story.

But again, even if they are included just because the actors' bodies are hot and and the scenes are visually beautiful, what's wrong with that?

What do you have against hot naked men? Why isn't that as much a legitimate visual element for a movie as a gorgeous sunset or lush topographical cinematography?

Hmmm...I would just get started grooving on this flick, catching onto the story and then we'd go artsy-fartsy all of a sudden and I'd be like wtf? and then I'd be out of the movie and I'd get back in later only to get artsy-fartsied again which would pull me out and on and on...there was a good movie in here somewhere but the director/writers/whatever decided to indulge themselves with some kind of confusing industry-insider commentary or something.

I'm not sorry I watched it. Some of the acting was really good, especially from the MC. BUT just as soon as he did well, he'd be chewing the scenery again and perhaps that was part of the point, but so...what? My favorite character was the MC's friend/manager who put up with him far too long but apparently finally got out too. I guess it was interesting...I'm not even sure of that.

I do have to laugh about the commenters below who thought this flick was far too full of sexy-time and nudity. lol definitely wtf? There were two or three sexy scenes but they were shot modestly and there was nothing pornographic about them. But this actor was a K-Pop idol or something? lol again, whatever.

So much trouble because of the sex content? Am I to understand that if you want to be a popular actor in Korea…
A lot of Korean music and film/series fans have a really fucked-up relationship to the singers, musicians, actors, etc. who provide the entertainment they consume. Especially on the Internet where it's gotten really insane, psycho Korean "fans" think these entertainers somehow "owe" them and society certain modes of behavior and rule-following in return for the fame and money they reap from their craft. It is really sick, especially in K-Pop.

The film is much better then the prior commenters make it out to be. The sexual content is not as dominant as…
Over the last year that I've been on MDL I've come to believe its commentariat includes a large proportion of prudes, Puritans and other sex-phobic tender flowers here who don't like the fact that sex is a HUGE part of what makes us human, including many ways that are not readily apparent. I suspect there are a lot of teeny-bopper virgins here too, kind of scared of the whole icky idea of sex. :D

I wish that the plot would have had Joon Seok would have toyed with/tortured/mind-fucked Chang Shik with smaller, less drastic, but always building torments over a longer period of time rather than things escalating so quickly. But then that would have been a different movie than this one.

I hated the ending but it's probably much more realistic than what I would have preferred, given the level to which things had gone.

I'm not a big fan of violence in movies, but when I see it, I like it to be done well and convincingly. Korean movies have the best fight scenes anywhere. I'm always thinking of the countless hours of rehearsal, choreography and hard work that go into making a fight scene look convincing and at the same time making sure none of your actors get hurt.

MC was great in his role and very handsome. I kept thinking he looks like an Asian and more handsome version of Jimmy Fallon. :) I would have liked to see it established why exactly the young MC took such abuse with almost zero resistance. Unless I missed something, that was not clear. I wanted to climb into my laptop screen and take on a couple of those bully-ass teachers too.

I keep seeing horrific levels of high school bullying, violence and abuse portrayed in so many different movies/series. Does anyone know? Is this an accurate reflection of how god-awful it really is? Had I been bullied like that at that age I never would have survived. I would have run away or killed myself. Going to school every day is entering the jaws of hell and then you'd worry about it when you're NOT in school. Jesus, people can be horrible.

I wish they had hired an actor to play the older Chang Shik who actually looked somewhat like the younger actor.…
I have to agree. The match of the other two younger/older actors was much more believable.

Pretty much agree with everything you said. I'm a visual artist too! I put a watermark across everything I post online (see my profile pic) so if someone steals it they have to do some work to get rid of the postmark. Now that you mention it, I have never downloaded anything except porn, lol, and very little of that. When it's up on the web, I figure what is the point?
