Good god, this is so bad in so many ways I don't know where to start.
I hated seeing Nut trying to emote his way through this piece of crap. He and his other half from "Grey Rainbow" are one of my all-time fave BL couples and he was excellent in it. So I'm going to blame the director for a lot of lousy, melodramatic, stupid acting choices made by all the players.
Hate movies where these people obliterate their loved ones by coldly dumping them, all in the name of sparing them the pain and sorrow of some unavoidable catastrophe like this dude's cancer. The people who get dumped or disappeared on end up more hurt than if they went through whatever awaits them with their partner. I'd like to know how many BLs there are that utilize this stupid trope.
Questions: Why were all those revealing documents carefully laid out for Ton to discover on Tawan's coffee table? How bad was Tawan's acting when he stumbled into the room with the sunglasses on? Why would Tawan seek a woman to replace him, knowing that Ton is way gay? After Ton told Tawan he would never see him again and then had his wreck, he seemed to practically be living with him and Nam. wtf? Why would Ton sit in his new office after a major promotion and read "The Prophet?" Nothing else to do? How hot are Nut's torso, chest and shoulders? Why didn't we get to at least see him taking a BL shower? Tawan sure looks healthy for having had stage four cancer for two years. Did Nam drug Ton at the restaurant when Tawan stood him up and she appeared? How bad were Nam's white shorts and white high heels at work? Why do so many BLs, (especially Pinoy), feature trans characters in horrible, horrible outfits? OK, I'm done for now.
The last three eps brought this up from a 5 to a 7.5 overall. Vast improvement in just about everything in those episodes. Love the MC in this series. The little guy is adorable and a good actor as well.
He will either start having anonymous sex on the side, have an on-going affair with a dude, get honest with himself and his spouse and divorce with shared custody, or slowly but surely lose his mind. He seems too honest a person to do either of the former, so I guess it's divorce or the nut house. Guilt is NOT a sufficient basis for a marriage to succeed. And how pathetic is that woman? She married him knowing who he was and that he could never return the love she feels for him because it is against his nature.
Good lord, I hope Korea gets its act together on LGBTQ issues while I'm still alive to see it. That kind of vicious, hateful homophobia is so destructive and psychotic to the culture itself. For instance, Korea is the home of K-Pop music, which brings billions of dollars into the country. K-Pop is swarming with gay men, both in the boy bands themselves and behind the scenes. Their videos and personal presentations are often extremely gay or androgynous...the little girls go wild for these guys when they do gay-ish fan service during concerts...and yet the culture that eats all this up is swarming with hatred for gay people It is sick beyond belief.
If that's it, I don't know...seems like a bit of a weak climax. I would rather it be someone who did it out of vicious evil than someone like the dad who would have done it for pathetic, hateful spite. So that makes him a cold-blooded murderer, so I guess he will turn himself in and confess and that will be that. If it IS the dad, I have to say that he certainly didn't behave at YO's urn box like someone who had killed the person in the urn and felt regretful about it...he was pretty together. Oh well...I do think you're right though.
I just went back and watched the scene where the father visited YO's urn. He just looked sad and then bowed his head. He's going to turn himself in.
OK...I can't stand it. Mario? Whatever he did that he is remorseful or regretful about happened 20 years ago? The hospital administrator? Why? What? Honestly, there aren't really that many characters. Peach? He was in Thailand, unless he snuck in early to kill Yoon Oh for some reason. The preview shows the mom reacting to the sight of the perp with shock, so who the hell could it be who is already in the story? The father of the little girl in the coma? He could have done it to get back at YO's mom who he considered responsible for his daughter's condition, so she'd know what it's like to lose a child? Honestly, I can't think of anyone. So what is your theory? I hope it's not some far-fetched, implausible person which will further trash the integrity of the story. The blind lady? She didn't see YO and stumbled into him, pushing him into the street?
Uhhh just to point out he doesn’t have schizophrenia. He has DID. Very different things.
I apologize. Guess I'm grumpy today and took it out partly on you. I'm sorry for my aggressive rudeness and will take down that comment. I'm kind of annoyed with myself that all these years I've thought schizophrenia WAS multiple personalities. OK, that's where the defensiveness comes from. My bad.
Uhhh just to point out he doesn’t have schizophrenia. He has DID. Very different things.
You are correct. I am now up to date on what DID is and how it differentiates itself from schizophrenia. However, I don't believe there was a scene or scenes in this episode in which his diagnosis and its name were made clear. Am I wrong? Did I miss that?
An instant favorite for me. Acting, direction, cinematography, production...all wow. If I could, I'd give both leads Oscars. They are just mesmerizing separately and together. I'm not sure what I was left wanting, but it's something...it's not that I want Po Wing and Fai back together...those two are a hot mess/passive-aggressive/love-hate/sadomasochistic train wreck, but I def would have liked Fai to meet up with Chang again. But we don't always get what we want as an audience now do we? :P
I get so frustrated at times with portrayals of relationships like Po Wing/Fai. They are so codependent and destructive to themselves and each other, and they are not stupid so they know this, and the cycle of love, love, love/hate,hate, hate always repeats itself so while I understand there is love under all that awfulness, I don't always buy that they keep reuniting to do the same dance. They might be a great and happy couple if they'd get joint therapy for a few years, but that's not going to happen...some couples just like to torture each other, though in this case it seems to me Po Wing was always the key problem. Speaking only for myself as a gay man, I will never understand toilet sex. Yuck.
I think after another watch I will end up loving this movie immensely. Right now I just have a powerful crush on it. So many powerful feels and the use of black/white and color at different times, along with what seemed like a saturated color palette, occasional fast-forward and other little tricks were beautiful and effective and not the least bit overused.
I just finished watching this so want to let it soak in, then come back and read comments. Yeah, probably in my top 20 fave movies.
Wow, this shows great promise. I am intrigued, both by the scenario and the acting/direction/production values. I'm already wishing it were longer than four 20-minute eps.
As interesting and cute/weird as the coupling seems to be, I don't know that establishing an intimate relationship with a schizophrenic whose personalities come and go as they please, and one of which is like a child, would be the way to go. Doesn't seem like WZ would get much in the way of dependable emotional/intellectual support from YS. He will always be either parenting him or sparring with him, depending on which personality shows up at a given time.
It's fun and interesting, though, to realize that WZ will be wooing Noah as you would a parent to get permission from him to be with YS. lol This could be a really fun ride.
Off topic, but I realized again tonight that after about a year of obsessive BL watching, I can now determine, from the sound of whatever Asian language is being spoken, the country in which it was made. Had you told me that would EVER be the case a year ago, I wouldn't have believed it. Apparently, I can now even tell Taiwan Chinese from Mainland Chinese, though maybe that's about a different accent or something. Will have to investigate. Anyway, just thought I'd share that little tidbit. :D
"Toxic" relationships make for great drama. I do not watch BL for moral teachings on how to live my life. It's…
Weird. I had no problem recognizing that the "obsessed" guy took things too far a number of times. I'm so sick of "toxic," "problematic," and people who come here to see their own moral values and prejudices reflected back to them. Often in life people who do bad things also do good things, and bad things often go unpunished. I don't think this series portrayed their relationship as some kind of glorious thing...it was a mess and extremely stressful to both. If you can't see that which is right in front of you, I can't help.
The worst part for me was when he grabbed that girl, who was totally being a bitch btw, by the throat. It would have been nice to see someone punch him out at that point, but again, I don't come to BL to see and hear pretty stories where everyone who is a douche at times gets precisely the punishment I think they deserve. I thought when he grabbed her, that it would have been cool to see the guy he was obsessed by jump him from behind to get him off her.
But that didn't happen. Lots of things happen in drama that I wish went in a different direction. That's why drama sometimes stresses me out and effects me deeply.
Curious: In what way do you see these two as "glorified?" They go through hell before they end up together. And that near-final scene where the obsessed guy confesses so intensely and tearfully, is one of the most powerful confession scenes in BL history.
Define "bl scenes." People always expect nudity, intimacy, and hot scenes when it comes to gay dramas, but are…
No, we're talking about the same thing. I just don't agree with you. So...I'll try again because I'm not afraid of discussing shit with people who disagree with me: Is it your position that men CANNOT be fetishized? That seems like a problematic position to take.
Labeling you an SJW doesn't prove any...point. It just means you are an SJW who thinks using the word "problematic" somehow makes it so, while of course also signaling to other SJWs that you're on the team.
I didn't "start a conversation." I wrote a comment. No one said you have to reply.
Define "bl scenes." People always expect nudity, intimacy, and hot scenes when it comes to gay dramas, but are…
Sorry, no, disagree. That's your opinion, I have mine. I fantasize about different men all the time. I also know very well that they are real people. Also, you just outed yourself as a classic SJW with the use of the word "problematic," the mother-lode of SJW code words. These things are problematic to YOU, not in some baked-in, organic way problematic to the universe. lol I'll regret asking, but what is problematic about my statement that voyeuristic enjoyment of gay sexuality in China and Korea is fascinating. Many, many things are fetishized by different people for sexual and other reasons. So what? Who cares? Like I said, accepting gay sex as a kink can be seen as a step along the road to full acceptance. You disagree. So what?
Define "bl scenes." People always expect nudity, intimacy, and hot scenes when it comes to gay dramas, but are…
What you call fetishization I just call hypocritical/unself-aware/stupid/near-psycho homophobia. ESPECIALLY in the K-Pop industry, which is a really messed up thing. And believe me, I've read WAY more about this "fetishization" accusation, which is a relatively new, and trendy, name for hypocritical homophobia. I don't know that fujoshis and K-Poppers are "turned on" by displays of hot guy-on-guy action, but they obviously like seeing it. Even if they ARE turned on by it, I don't see that as a problem if they can be made to admit it and realize that they're already half-way toward freeing themselves of homophobia altogether. The question for them is "why do I like seeing this?" I think it's a relatively normal expression of sexual desire along the orientation continuum and without the bigotry I don't see it as a problem at all. Voyeurism is a time-honored expression of sexuality too, especially if what is being observed is taboo.
Especially in China and Korea, two extremely homophobic cultures on the surface, this enjoyment of gay sexuality by a significant portion of the population is fascinating.
if you don't enjoy the acting of the main actor in a drama it's perfectly fair to say so. after having watched…
Oh, wait a minute...you sound awfully ANGRY with this comment. :)
Look, it's not my problem that your feelings are so delicate. You should probably not engage on comment boards. Your little fee-fees are liable to be hurt with frequency.
So I'm "angry" and "shit all over you like a douchenugget," and I "look like a dick" but you're in complete control of your emotions and are commenting with great dignity and maturity. Got it.
Your anger is of the extremely passive-aggressive type, smoothed over with a transparent veneer of pompous, faux objectivity which is anything but. See a shrink.
There are quite a few things about this show that should have been done a lot better, but it is doing a lot of things right too because I find myself in full-on ugly cry two or three times per episode. At its heart it so deeply touches the pain of the human condition: that we must live together and love and then let go, and there is just no way around that.
The father letting go of his beloved, cherished angel daughter tore my heart out and threw it around on the floor a few times. Such excellent/real acting. I'm crying again as I write...
I cant for the life of me imagine who the mystery person is who did you-know-what, but I'm glad for the mom that she no longer has to wonder. However...I had NO idea Yoon Oh's death had only been a MONTH before this episode. I thought it had been a year or more...don't know why, but frankly I don't find it plausible that the parent of a child who died just weeks before, and potentially by suicide, would be as together as she has been during this series. I'm sorry...no, she would still be spending entire days in bed, she'd have to be on heavy meds to get through a day without sobbing the entire time.
And would our sweetie Peach really say to Yooh Oh "oh about that question you asked yesterday...no, I want you to go ahead and leave me. Good night." No elaboration, no explanation, no nothing but bad writing to take us into the next day with some heavy angst in the air. Those are the sort of lazy, unrealistic things that bug me about this show.
And again: WHERE does Mario get his suits and furnishings? Frankly, he never looked better than in the black suit and tie with red lips and blood-red eyes.. HOT.

I say this as someone who loves the whole "Like Love" universe of films.
