wtf happened. EP. 6 was horrible. Im wondering how Phob is doing, and all I got was endless side-scenes about what a good brother Nuts brother is, and how much the brother and his bf are in love and cute togther and Im like "who the fuck cares? How is Phob?" Ugh...I dont mind long, measured scenes when their content pertains to the core story but almost this entire episode felt like filler. Maybe the fake cut-off arm prop is so bad that Mean doesnt want us to see it?
I loved the first three eps and disliked the last three. Not a good direction to be going...
It's been 6 years since I watched this movie so my memory may not be the best, but that part of the review was…
BTW...and I hope you don't find this question offensive: Did you find the MC's crush to seem a little bit..."intellectually challenged?" I don't mean that jokingly either. :) The actor had a very slight Down's Syndrome vibe, especially when they showed him running, the way his limbs moved. I don't think he actually DOES have DS (if he does he did a hell of a job) but I found the casting interesting and wondered if anyone else had the same thought.
You bring up some very good points. However, Boat was so breathtaking in his role as Sun I was willing to overlook…
I agree with everything you say except that I do not understand the laziness of BL writers and directors who are so willing to keep handing us the same tropes over and over. The last couple eps of GB was almost a PARODY of tropes, you could check them off. :)
Thanks for your review. I kept thinking though..."how do we know that Ohm and Wan actually had sex after that drinking session at the bar?" If they did, I don't remember anything in the script that made that clear. Wan was wasted, so its entirely possible that nothing happened that night. Did I miss something?
So, assuming Ohm and Wan did NOT have sex, that's what I found interesting: that the whole thing blew up in their faces and yet there was no actual, sexual infidelity between Ohm and either one of the other two. For me, this film had a lot to say about how we make assumptions and think the worst.
I find Gun to be distractingly unattractive, both when he laughs/smiles and when he cries/frowns. Not entirely certain what it is but something about the mouth and the eyes put me off.
As for the film...I liked the idea, but not the execution, and there were lots of sloppy BL plot devices. I did like that Ohm was a manipulative jerk at first, who then evolved into a seemingly decent person. I hated how Wan acted like a brainless schoolgirl at work whenever Ohm was around; he was so obvious and did little to conceal his feelings, which already felt like a sort of emotional infidelity to his partner. But I liked how he kind of got what he had coming when it all came full circle on the rooftop. Then he screams and runs away, playing the victim when he was culpable from the start.
I also liked how Tar used the wristwatch to wreak havoc/revenge on Wan. Of course it was mean, especially given that Tar and Ohm did NOT have sex, but again, I feel like Wan had it coming. What a perfect way to exact revenge without actually doing anything sex-wise. Although if Ohm hadn't stopped him I'm sure it would have happened.
Anyone get a vibe on whether or not Wan and Ohm had sex after Wan got so drunk at his birthday party and Ohm took him to his place? I was never sure on that. And finally, what the hell was that person on the phone talking about their relationships? A call-in radio show? What the hell was that?
It's been 6 years since I watched this movie so my memory may not be the best, but that part of the review was…
Yeah, it was clearly low-budget and in some ways felt filmed on the fly, so to speak. But overall, I guess the charm I felt from the film and the characters moved me to excuse its flaws. I know you mentioned that scene with an actor looking at the camera, lol, but honestly I don't recall that. I'm sure it happened since you say so, but somehow I missed it. I found the main character of the boy very sympathetic; I felt deeply moved by his plight.
I thought the wedding at the end was a bit much. Right out of high school and you've NEVER dated or had sex with another man? That seems risky to me. lol
I actually liked that scene with the three friends eating at the little table in the apartment with the Lazy Susan in the middle. The camera ended up ON the Lazy Susan and went round and round, filming the actors as they interacted. I thought that was fresh and funny and they pulled it off, as far as I could see, without a hitch. HAD to be hard to act, speak, turn the table and eat food you're putting together with your hands all at the same time. I was a gimmick, sure, but I liked it. :D What did you think of that scene?
Oh...another dumb thing about this show's last episode: Whatever happened to Sun's injury/wound from having been shot in the freaking back? And why would a bullet to your back put you into a coma? lol And why would he be laid on his very wounded back in the hospital bed? I think they would have positioned him on his stomach instead, with the added bonus of us getting to enjoy the contours of what appears to be a very nice butt. Finally...once he was out of the hospital bed it was like the gunshot wound never happened, even during that fight on the roof with the henchman.
I've been meaning to ask for a long time, and someone finally did below: Why would a bodyguard also be tasked with the duties of cook, butler and maid? Wouldn't performing those duties draw him away from his first responsibility, protecting Sky? But no, Sky would be doing whatever, wherever, and Sun would be in the kitchen chopping carrots.
He is not listed among the supporting cast above, but I think the character's name was Shin. I was surprised that, after he showed a great deal of compassion and humanity in attempting to change Sky's dad's mind about Sky/Sun, he went ahead and followed the order to beat the shit out of Sun on the rooftop. I kept expecting him to stop and say, "OK, go get Sky now and run...I'll say you beat me up and I couldn't stop you," but he did his job, unfortunately.
I'm pretty sure we were meant to "not like" the bullying aspect of the film. I mean, what audience member would like such a thing? But it told us a lot about what Hiroki's daily school life was like and why he was such a loner, and unhappy. And that's information we needed to see on screen.
Couple of questiona: Why did you find it necessary to fast-forward through the "sexy scenes?" Unless I'm forgetting, there was one in Hiroki's mind while he was jerking off, and another when Keigo was with the older guy in the men's room at the bar, and the cute side couple in the bathtub, but that wasn't a sex scene. Am I forgetting any? I found both those scenes to be beautifully acted/performed and I liked the way they were filmed too. Both scenes told us a lot about the main character involved in them, so you missed important stuff by fast-forwarding. Of course, you are welcome to ff through whatever you like, but I'm curious as to why you did so in the case of this film. Care to reply?
I love this movie. Just gave it my second watch, and at least for me I think a second watch is a requirement for getting the most I can out of a given flick that I find enjoyable the first time around. I don't mind the low-budget feel of it at all and it was fun to see some of the creative ways the director came up with to work around that budget and make the most of it.
The actor playing Hiroki was superb. So real, vulnerable, yet ultimately also very brave. Keigo came right up to that line where a dude gets too queenie for me to want to hang with him, and so I liked him and his golden heart very much. The other main couple were both great in their roles, the younger one is a doll-face.
I found the climactic wedding a bit much, but whatever, it was fun. I can't sign on to the idea, though, that it's a good idea at the age of 18, to marry/commit to the very first guy you date/have sex with after coming out. The pairing is believable and Keigo's nervousness at finding himself falling for Hiroki was adorable, but I don't know...seems like it would be a good idea for the kid to live a little first. Hilarious that the strange object of Hiroki's earlier lust, Kota, turned out to bat for our team too and announced what he announced to Hiroki at the wedding. lol I also liked that Hiroki's masturbatory fantasy was not censored or toned down for PC purposes...I had the same sort of fantasies when I was that age. Note to anyone upset by that scene fantasy is DIFFERENT from reality.
Same lmao i binge watched it today cus i had nothing else to watch xDN i agree with the terrible part most of…
Oh god, I know. One of those BLs that are bizarre in their odd badness...as if no one on the production team bothered to watch the final product before pushing it out the door...or DID watch it, said "wtf, there's no hope," and caught the next plane out of Thailand before this abomination could destroy their career.
I loved the first three eps and disliked the last three. Not a good direction to be going...

Love this movie! An odd-duck gem. :)
