Well ... this movie is supposedly a super good movie but ... it is ... trashy FLASHY shocking. It is just shocking the audience instead of teaching anything.
The main actor is behind all that hair and basically does NOT act... for second half, he cuts his hair but always - he is more or less poker faced... and his acting is fake so many times while poker faced... it is clear he knows he is faking it.... The only real acting scene was the very last one when he says bye to the little girl - he can SMILE for real, and that is natural to him... and then the emotion and crying - that was real acting ..... and the rest of the movie was almost all fake.

And we never see him work out stuff emotionally inside him, it is about revenge and finding his friend... ok but ... that's not it. That is what american movies do.

But he looks like a skinny fashion model... And ... plastic surgery lips? Is this the start of that ugly trend....??? at least back then he was not pale. Now actors look like white ghosts.

Well - the movie does teach something - avoid clubs, drugs, etc :)
The message is good, that a man would do anything to save someone
but the plot etc is just ... all "special effects" without real content. Like an american movie, lots of fights and gangs and low life, shocking the audience with what really happens in the crime world.
But in terms of PLOT as CONTENT as character growth etc
and in terms of what kdramas are really for - good instructions for daily life for ordinary ppl -
well... this fails.
It is just a SHOCKER
an american movie made in Korea, with a super skinny actor, everything a copy of american style, really . Even the music was in English and western style.

so why is this actor so famous and why is this movie one of the best... is still unknown. Is it bc he kinda popularized western style... ?

Title My Brother
ha the younger brother is the infamous Won Bin... ??? well... based on the hype, I expected so much more... lmao I am not totally impressed.
Well then I will watch his best movie The Man From Nowhere and see for myself why he is so famous. -- well - in that movie he has hair all over his face so you cannot even see him lmao and the acting is minimal. he is sooooo skinny and looks ... like a model. Perhaps later in the movie we can SEE him acting lol In that drama, the little girl is THE actor. Amazing acting by a child actor
So funny how that actor captured everyone. I still have to find out WHY. So far - no evidence.

I thought it's a Netflix original drama. If Netflix was original network we could've seen all episodes on same…
Sure go ahead and kill kdramas that way. Then there is no advertising revenue, there is not much buzz, and you got a hole in time until you release the next drama.

Title Our Happy Days Spoiler
we know nothing about G's mom, nor how his dad died. We all suspect Chairman or his driver ran him over. So Chairman…
G and EA know each other when she was 5 and became friends, the 4 leaf clover that she carries is what he gave her back then to console her.
They met on a playground just before he went to his Bday celebration with his father and then the father died.
EA was alone on that playground bc her mother left her there, bc the mother saw someone who looked like her mother and started following them and forgot about EA, who had to come back home on her own, 5 yrs old.

we know nothing about G's mom, nor how his dad died. We all suspect Chairman or his driver ran him over. So Chairman…
SR's father was at the collumbarium bc Chairman used to go all the time and now cannot. SR's dad drives Chairman around, so perhaps that's how G's dad was killed.
Dai Chi is definitely not Grandma's son.
FL's mom is Grandma's lost daughter, they are still looking for her but she is NOT looking for them, she is angry that her mother abandoned her. Chairman and Grandma got married and seems like they went on a honeymoon and left the daughter with some ... relatives? and the relatives took her and disappeared.

But who is Dai Chi's mom ?? - bc we saw young Chairman meeting young Grandma (who already had a young daughter - FL's mom) - as workers on a construction site. THERE WAS NO DAI CHI SHOWN IN SCENES FROM THAT TIME... so where did Dai Chi come from.... ??? Seems like Chairman was married before, but why only Grandma's daughter was shown when they got together... ?

I tend to love Choi Woo-shik in movies (Parasite, Train from Busan, The Witch: Part One), but the only drama lead…
thanks to you, i just checked him out.
CWS is totally hilarious in The Boy next door. He is a really good actor. The other dude is cute but doesnt have those acting skills and really cannot do comedy... I crossed him off bc of Dynamite Kiss. That was the death blow to my liking him as an actor

Would you Marry Me was trash, the entire drama.... FL actress is one of the most terrible actresses I know and she copied 100% - even the clothing - from her super cringe role in My Father is Strage .... and CWS looked totally bored the entire time, with the face "i am dying here this is stupid when is time to go home, i cant film this one more second - but i will grit my teeth and stay to finish filming" - Wth did he do that drama? money? or what?
I wont watch Train to Busan bc it is horror but I need to watch Parasite, Okja, and Witch part 1
Thanks to you, I learned about a great actor I didnt even know about
well I did know him from Would you marry Me, but besides being good looking, he was ... soooooo boring to watch, his acting was so ... "i dont want to be filming this" vibe

I just did some research to get the idea about the time when the drama happens.
IT IS IN THE MIDDLE OF Japanese occupation 1910-1935 and KOREAN INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENT, the long haul of 35 years.....
In year 1926, so many Koreans already died from forced labor, forced systemic starvation, and as independence fighters, and there is still all the years till 1939 when WWW2 starts and Japan does war crimes in Korea and mobilizes 5.4 million Koreans, until finally Japan leaves in May 1945.... Wow... this is BRUTAL
****Total bill: about 500,000 Koreans dead plus about 200,000 Korean women and girls as Japanese sex slaves and about 800,000 Koreans forced to relocate to Japan.

Wow the brutal Japanese occupation 1910-1945 where Korean language and names were forbidden, Korean resources taken, ppl "enslaved" to help grab the resources and yeah the war crimes during WW2.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korea_under_Japanese_rule About 500,000 Koreans died as a result of the Japanese occupation of Korea (1910–1945) from forced labor, military conscription - 5.4 Koreans were mobilized to help Japan fight WW2 and 240,000 Korean men had to fight in Japanese army during WW2 and 22,000 died, systemic starvation, and deadly crackdowns on independence movements. And about 200,000 Korean women AND GIRLS were used as "comfort women" i.e. sex slaves to Japanese soldiers during WW2, and there are still Koreans living in Japan from that time. About 800,000 were forcefully relocated to Japan during WWW2 to work there, plus the comfort women.
Around 500,000 Koreans died or disappeared across the empire during the colonial and WWII period due to disease, dangerous working conditions, and systemic starvation. JAPAN INTENTIONALLY STARVED KOREANS

By the end of World War II in 1945, the total ethnic Korean population in Japan had peaked over 2 million (up from roughly 30,000 in 1920): forced to relocate during WWW2, comfort women, earlier voluntary immigrants and those whose labor contracts had expired

But then we have Korean presidents who are pro japanese, like the infamous president Park...

then Korean war 1950-1953, N Korea invaded Seoul,... then UN forces kicked them out and invaded N Korea... then Chinese military came in and invaded Seoul... then again UN kicked them out of S Korea.... This is year 1951 .... AND IT WAS SEEMINGLY ALL GOOD BUT UN - SPECIFICALLY USA - KEPT CARPET BOMBING N KOREA AND DESTROYED EVERYTHING IN N KOREA and it lasted UNTIL July 1953..... the USA used Korea as cash cow for selling its bombs... The massive air campaign was directed by U.S. General [Douglas MacArthur]who served as the Supreme Commander of UN forces. The strategic and tactical bombings were conducted primarily by the USAF's Far East Air Forces (FEAF), utilizing heavy bombers like the B-29 Superfortress

Korean war deaths: about 1 million military dead and about 3 million civilians dead, all N Korea cities destroyed and all N Korea infrastructure destroyed... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_War

Then From September 1964 to March 1973, South Korea sent some 350,000 troops to S Vietnam to be in the Vietnam war - and that is where Korean soldiers are accused of committing terrible war crimes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Korea_in_the_Vietnam_War

OK no wonder that Koreans are all over the world, LA Korea town, Toronto, Sidney, Malesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hawaii, so many ppl must have escaped this somehow at one point or another...

and it is totally surprising that Koreans did NOT get rid of sexism in all this!!!! it would have been so much easier to fight.... Perhaps Japanese etc would have been kicked out much earlier

and now S Korea lives sandwiched in the middle of China.... with Japan and Russia nearby.... ikes!!!!! AND, Japan has a fashist imperialist prime minister!!!!! Most Europe does too..... WWW2 setup is kinda repeating....

and S Korea has the globally lowest birth rate.... and is essentially going extinct

Imo the only thing that can save them is to stop the fetish of being skinny and to proclaim normal eating and normal weight and normal BMI as fashionable and desirable

So anyways, this is why S Korea is special and that's where the "special" of kdramas comes from

And this 1926 drama is gonna be rather devastating bc ... 15 years of japanese occupation already happened, so many dead and so much suffering, and there is 20 more years of Japanese occupation to still happen

wow Koreans found a gold mine - Americans love to eat (too much - most ppl are medically obese) and so they love watching these food dramas. That's $$$$$ for Koreans... So yeah food dramas are here to stay :(

I find long food scenes boring, so I went to feed the meter for most of those scenes... .
I wish they would use more scenes useful as a cooking lesson, then I would watch more carefully

Most of these long dramas are even worse than they used to be. Pearl in red is even worse than this drama imo,…
ok, that's your opinion
Imo both JH and MJ actors are really bad. When I watch JH, I feel like I am watching a wall or a robot, something that is not alive. Watching MJ is definitely watching a live person, he acts with his eyes, but he either looks like a super tight anxious person who is just about to faint from hyperventilation, like someone who just ran into an ER in total panic and can barely breathe and speak. OR like Wizard of Oz, blazing eyes behind a poker face. That actor does not act with his face and his body. His shoulders and neck are one piece of cement.
I suspect Chloe actress can do a lot more and it is frustrating to me to watch her in Pearl in Red, her acting abilities totally "dimmed out"
Imo HJ actor is gonna make a name for himself bc he CAN act well, a whole wide range
I also like the acting of Chairman actor, he is a perfect crude rude cheap villain
