Omg what an amazing drama!!!! I saw only 3 eps so far and the setup is great. I read the reviews that say that from ep 5 this turns into makjang. Well. I will find out later if that is true, and is so, then I will stop watching, what I saw is enough to make me happy.
ML actor is fascinating, bc he can look anything from really mean nasty gangster all the way to very gentle child. I dont think I saw him anywhere else I started actively watching in 2019.
This was filmed before plastic surgery and dieting to super skinny and bleached hair and pale faces. ML is super handsome and more manly and good looking than any of the the modern metrosexual manicured plasticized dudes. And the houses have a lot brighter colors and a lot more wood. It is FASCINATING to see the REAL Korean drama.
Also, the WARMTH, this is much warmer and "humane" than modern kdramas, which tend to be very bland, with many main characters being poker faced, and family and community not important.
yeah sure in this drama, ML actor is the only really good actor in the kimchi family, but he is so good at acting that he is able to carry the drama.. The only poker faced in the drama are Uncle and Dad, and they are minor characters. The thugs and villains actors are great
Speaking of fashion, SR's younger brother looks AMAZING in that Asian style dark top and dark pants with white t-shirt underneath. WOW. That's the best he looked so far! The color is not pitch black but very dark soft gray, I am not sure how it was made. The cut is extremely comfortable and practical, short lose "jacket" top and baggy pants. LOOKS GREAT. Something lke that would be good for women too, it looks super comfortable and wearable anywhere
I love Dai Chi's pink suits :) it reallllly fits his character. He is quite a fun villain. He looks like... a gay Frenchman with affectionations of an old fat FEMALE socialite grand dame lmao He is just missing a big horse-races hat with flowers lmao

Dai Chi is this "fat affectionating grand dame", a loving husband who acts as a policeman and coach to his wife too, and a very cold cruel calculated THIEF, a very sly brutal RAT. He is fun to watch but he is ..... a very dangerous malicious spoiled brat. A rat - stealing food, creating poop, and carrying diseases.
And his wardrobe is PERFECT, totally PERFECT for his character. I am totally delighted

G character is weak and slimy. It irritates me to see him with his hair in his eyes just LYING AND LYING politely with a straight face. Also the actor irritates me bc he is just pretending.
The character is so disgustingly slimy, it would be enough, but the actor with his pretense and not really being the character makes it almost unbearable.
A good "annoying" character is a good thing to watch, like Seong Ri lmao .. although she is an annoying character, she is good to watch bc he is REAL, the actress IS that character. G actor is NOT his character. HE IS MENTALLY SOMEWHERE ELSE, NOT IN HIS ROLE, SO IT IS JUST UNBEARABLE TO WATCH THIS DOUBLE LIE, A SLIMEY LYING CHARACTER BY A DISHONEST ACTOR. It is like a double whammy of slimey lies and pretense, and it is agh as I said, like nails on chalkboard.
Mostly everything about G is like nails on chalkboard, the character is such a snowflake immature slimey liar, but "nice" - kappol nice, he is just DISTANT LIKE A RAT he stays in control and stays totally separate and COLD by lying non-stop - and then the "I am obviously pretending here" acting is just ... aagh awful.

of course, nothing beats the ORIGINAL ACTOR's voice, their intonation, etc. voice carries a lot of acting! dubs are always cheesy bc some incompetent person is just reading the text instead of truly acting it - nothing can replace the original actor's voice...
It is definitely FL actress personal preference, bc she was super cold to BH and her ML in Queen's house, but did not mind hanging close to SML in Queen's house and here was throwing herself at JH with great enthusiasm. The last scene hugging in Heaven was more passionate than any BH-JM scene.
When BH proposed to JM, she did not even say "i love you" her response was "you are my first man, who else would I marry?" and it sounded like - hey stupid, dont ask me any stupid questions. JM was NEVER nice to BH.
There wasnt ONE scene where they are like lovers, the kinda talk - how was your day, what's up, I am feeling/thinking this, oh you are so cute, etc NONE. ZERO. NADA. Romance totally absent.
And, I really dislike when personal preferences show on screen

Chairman Brutus and Aunt were in Kimchi Family, 2011 kdrama. He was a poker faced boring side character and she was the FL of not great acting abilities.
