yeah and I'm all for "accurate historical depiction" but ffs don't put a dreamy filter and quirky music over it to romanticise what's happening. that's all I ask for. Dramas like this and Royal Feast are really just a big self-insert fantasy circle jerk for the show makers notorious for treating their actors like shit

yeah, I said it too. it's not happening. it was just a joke. but with all the times they've met and talked on their own (I'm not counting their chaperones because they'll always be around) makes it very much possible for two smart people to have a civil conversation which this drama obviously won't. it's so funny when comments like this are all about what was right and customary in the era but within the same breath will say things like, it's just a light romcom don't take it too seriously and suspend the logic.

i think you misread my comment because most of what you said is exactly what I've been saying. only place I'll disagree is you saying I want a perfect ML. I don't. it would be boring. what I'm saying is he can be cunning and manipulative without putting the people he loves at risk and actively harming them to get his way. he can be smart and even have a mean streak without treating his loved ones like dirt on his shoes. that's all.

if they have screen time I'll definitely check this out. I really like Bai Lu too so it won't be a tough watch by any means

same haha! it also makes sense given the recent popularity of 5 minute or less per episode cdramas that are quite literally info dumping on the viewer as we watch. gives me whiplash and then I struggle to get into longer dramas. but I only have myself to blame haha, trying to break out of this cycle lmao

yeah, you're absolutely right. the way I see it, she only just started taking interest in the guy but since he's head over heels for her he was hasty and rushed into it. the right thing would be to give her space to deal with her new feelings but instead we got a shoddy proposal and more conflict. classic case of too much too soon

I'm one of the negative commenters here but I would personally never listen to someone's opinions about something and watch and judge on my own first. so don't worry about the comments or the ratings

I read this article somewhere where it was being discussed how the recent media we're watching is being designed for instant gratification and production folks wanting characters to spell everything out for the viewer, announce their actions and motives instead of showing them on screen because people don't want to take the time to actively engage with the subject and usually like to watch while scrolling on their phones etc. I think this is why it feels similar to anime because with long-running anime characters usually have to announce their actions and keep on moving ahead, sometimes even resolving entire conflicts by just talking (which is a meme in itself: talk no jutsu)
